Season mode vs Franchise Mode
I play franchise mode, but I am curious what season mode doesn't have that franchise mode has that we consider necessary?Tags: None -
Re: Season mode vs Franchise Mode
I can't go into too much detail as I don't have a whole lot of experience with either mode but Season is basically Franchise light. As of The Show 11, the main differences were that you did not have to deal with finances in season mode and there were no minor leagues either. I believe you had a 40-man roster year round.
The most important thing to know, and what many people might not actually know is that Season mode in this game is not just one season as the name might suggest.
I hope someone else can chime in and give more detailed information. I'm not the biggest baseball fan but with the Vita I can now knock at least one game a day while commuting so I'm pondering whether to go with season mode with 82-games seasons or take the franchise plunge. -

I'm finding the same stuff as you said. You also deal with budgets rather than incomes. This appeals to me.I can't go into too much detail as I don't have a whole lot of experience with either mode but Season is basically Franchise light. Franchise-lite is a good description on the whole, but you're still limited to an active roster of 25. There is a Triple A team, but it works as more of an inactive list or reserve roster. There is a team budget, draft, FA, retirement, progression/regression and trades.I can't go into too much detail as I don't have a whole lot of experience with either mode but Season is basically Franchise light. Re: Season mode vs Franchise Mode
Holy cow! I'm glad I saw this thread. I always thought Season mode was a single season only. This might be a life saver for me. A shorter season length plus not quite as much roster management appeals to me. Franchise mode is awesome but I just don't have the time to get through multiple seasons. Once again, thanks SCEA for giving us options, options, options!!!!MLB: Twins
NFL: Vikings
College: Iowa State
Tennis: Andy Roddick
NBA: YawnComment

That's only if you play with less than 162 games. If you play Season mode with a 162 game schedule, you'll get a different schedule every year just like Franchise and RTTS.Comment

Re: Season mode vs Franchise Mode
1. Teams have budgets and not income and expenses.
2. You don't scout, when you draft all the ratings for draftees can be seen at selection.
3. There are no minor leaguers. What you have though is a 40-man roster to manage and 15 of them are pretty much reserves.
4. There are multiple season length modes. Too bad baseball is such an accumulated sport though and you like to see how stats tally up and not just be per-game averages.
Another thing I have found in simulating is the trades by the computer controlled teams are much tamer. I've seen in the franchise trade discussion that people have seen the Phillies trade Pujols in 2013. Say that out loud to yourself. I know big-name players do get traded, but I don't want to see guys like Pujols get passed around the league.
This mode has been a game-saver for me.
One thing that you might not get though are all the prospects. I'm guessing though for people considering this mode, you probably don't care. Only prospects on the 40-man roster will make it into your season.
I've been hemming and hawing over what to do with franchise/season modes this year, and I figure at this point I'll wait for OSFM and just begin season mode and whoever makes it on the 40-man, makes it on the 40-man.Comment

Thanks for the good summary! I think I will be rolling with season mode this year.1. Teams have budgets and not income and expenses.

Re: Season mode vs Franchise Mode
I am big Yankee fan, but with the PSP i used season mode simulated seasons with the Royals and drafted players with great potential to see how soon I could get to the world series. It is addictive on the road when I did not want to travel with my PS3. I have been doing that since MLB 07. I also bought the Vita, and the graphics are excellent, so now I am inclined to play instead of simulate.
Also, I have done season mode (25 games I think) and the following season, the schedule did shift: so-- if I am the Yankees, and Boston was my first game and Toronto my second, the following year, Toronto would be my first game. I did this last in MLB 10-- so I am not sure if it is different. I'd say simulate a season and see what happens the following year. If it works, then give season mode a shot.
BTW-- I have never played franchise mode.Comment
