Madden last gen vs. next (current gen)
I have been playing Madden for over 20years and am wondering what happened to the franchise. Last gen Madden (PS2/Cube/Xbox) generated some of the greatest playing NFL games of all time. There were no patches no updates....somehow all the greatness they built disappeared at the beginning of this gen and it hasn't been right since.Whether it was missing game modes or the gameplay it seems to have nosedived. What changed and what can we offer the current devs to fix the game?

After Madden 2005 I felt the series got pretty dull and became more about roster updates. At least the new versions look good. -
Re: Madden last gen vs. next (current gen)
I use to love playing last-gen franchise mode for hours on end. With nex-gen I play for a hour and just get bored with it. I know there is no point in playing just because to me the progression it broke. I am horrible at scouting players and when I draft them I end up getting a bunch of C rated players with maybe 1 B player, I know its my fault but still I liked just looking for the guy with the amazing test IQ thing and getting one heck of a player. Its sad when last gen had horrid graphics but great basics and could play for hours, nex-gen good graphics bad basics not so fun..........SAD...NINERS FAN SINCE 96Comment

Last gen I could actually play full franchises and never get tired of it.....AND still buy the next years game because it was that good! Now things have changed. I barely want to purchase the game because of how far it has fallen.“What’s better than one billionaire? 2.....”Comment

Re: Madden last gen vs. next (current gen)
I loved last gen as much as the next gamer, but man it's franchise had some limitations that really bugged me that have been improved in current gen of the game. Things like in franchise player editing, improved IR logic, expanded preseason rosters, more granular player attributes (i.e. having accuracy ratings for short, medium, deep passes instead of one accuracy rating) are big steps forward imo.Comment

Re: Madden last gen vs. next (current gen)
Not throwing ANY shade at the OP, but it's sometimes hard for me to comprehend why those previous gen Maddens are glorified to the extent they are.
When I think about some of the criticisms that Madden gets today, it often centers around pure football: true pocket (or lack thereof), WR/DB Mirroring & interaction, users sprinting backwards 15+ yards with the QB, player movement, etc.
Which of those elements of football was so outstanding on the previous generation? Maybe with the exception of player movement, I'd say all of those aspects of the game are better now than they were back then. That's not suggesting that there isn't room for improvement -- just saying those elements are better now.
It just seems to me that we get revisionist history as time moves on. Many members at OS scoffed at Madden 10 when it released -- now threads pop up about how great it was and how it's missed. It makes one say, well which one is it?Comment

I think this trend will continue perpetually... In my case, I had a deep fondness for Madden '04. It was my favorite version for years. Then one day during the Madden 11 year I popped '04 into my PS3 and played a quarter... I couldn't play it. Too much has been added since. Not throwing ANY shade at the OP, but it's sometimes hard for me to comprehend why those previous gen Maddens are glorified to the extent they are.

That's not to say I didn't have fun when Madden '04 was out. But it couldn't hold my attention today. I have too many tools now that didn't exist then.

Those games had decent game play for their time. They had a great franchise mode.
I think RGiles is right... now. Madden 12 is a better game. I would argue that Madden 11 and prior weren't.Last edited by PGaither84; 04-04-2012, 04:41 PM.Comment

Re: Madden last gen vs. next (current gen)
Contrary to many, I don't think Madden has changed much AT ALL. To me that is the biggest problem.I have been playing Madden for over 20years and am wondering what happened to the franchise. If I were to write out a list of issues with the game from 10yrs ago, the list would be nearly identical to a list I would make concerning Madden 12.
I have never understood how people can think last gen Madden is so great, and current gen is so terrible. I have a theory, but I'll let it alone...Last edited by Only1LT; 04-05-2012, 07:12 AM."You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling."Comment

You are echoing the same things I said. Or rather I'm echoing what you said, since you posted it before I did lol. I didn't read it till after I posted though.
I disagree on one point though. I am not so sure any of that stuff is improved. Seems about the same to me. If it is improved, it is either to such a small degree that it would sicken me to liken it to an improvement, or I'm just so jaded from years of seeing these issues, long before it felt like anyone else did, that I can't even tell when one of the legacy issues has seen incremental improvements.
I would go with the former though."You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling."Comment

Re: Madden last gen vs. next (current gen)
The one thing I've noticed that the last gen version of the game definitely had better was kick returns (punt returns were very limited). It seems almost impossible to take a kick return to the house in Madden12, whereas return tds and long returns were much more part of the game in the ps2 world.Comment
