    Recruiting tips

Any tips for recruiting in college hoops 2k8? I have created a ton of legacies as top schools and only once have I gotten the #1 recruit. Anything I can do?

I'm embarrassed to admit I've never landed the #1 recruit or the #1 class. I think my problem is I don't start recruiting them early enough. I usually just try to find 4 star players that fit my style, even when I'm at a power school.

I have a hard time not signing top recruits, I recruit in-state guys hard from the moment they appear. I play/coach a lot of ABL so its easy to find some studs in other states early.

Lol it depends on how my team is playing, I absolutely hate losing. I personally love to think I have that Jordan-esque will to win. So if i'm coaching a game and I notice that my only good scorer is a senior next year, i'm going to the abl to find a replacement lol.

                Re: Recruiting tips

i am (UIC) in an absolute BATTLE recruiting a 2* power forward right now with Indiana State. he is from Naperville, IL. B- midrange, B 3 point, standing at 6'8. he will fit into my offense soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo well. i need to get this guy lol

i've got a pretty good 4 of 5 man class coming in. i should be getting 2 point guards 4* from puerto rico and 2* from georgia (B midrange, and B passing, standing at 6'5) 1 maybe 2 PFs(3* and 2*) and a 3* african small forward i just want for depth.

this also leaves one scholly available that i hope i can get a good transfer

                    College Hoops 2K8 Recruiting Tips

I've never had a problem with recruiting. Here are some quick tips:

                    1. Use your coaching points on charisma.

                    2. If you create a prospect, make them international. They are easier to recruit.

                    3. Recruit on the first day of the season, then advance to the day after red shirts are due. This will allow you to offer a scholarship right away. Always recruit on Mondays.

                    4. Look at a calendar on your cell phone. Don't schedule Sunday games or more than 2 games per week. It limits your recruiting points and that's how people miss out on the elite prospects. You can't afford to slip up for even a week.

                    5. Go after Mr. Basketball players. Even if they are 2 or 3 star players, they tend to be quite good.

                    6. The reason why some people struggle is because they are recruiting players in positions where they already have Fr., So. and Jr. players on their teams. The recruits always want playing time. Recruit players where you have vacancies on your team or where Sr. players will be graduating. The exception is if your current players suck, sometimes you can recruit high school prospects in the same position if they are significantly better.

                    Cheats

                    1. If you create a prospect, you can make them the incorrect position (like a 6'2" center if you really need a point guard). They will be rated lower and easier to recruit. Then you can change their position after you get them.

                    2. If you want a PG and C for example, make all of your players on your current roster SG, SF or PF. They will want to come to your school because they think they'll have ample playing time. Change players' positions back after you sign your recruits. This has instant impacts if you are desperate.

                    3. Manipulate your schedule to have games versus low rated teams. This will help you get more coaching points with the achievements.

                    4. If you have a PF or C who have a good Close shot rating, change their tendencies. Crank up Close shots to 99 and Drive to 99. Medium shots and 3PT as their ratings dictate. They will have a good chance at being all Americans, thus getting you more coaching points.

                    5. Change all of your players' tendencies or at least the starters. Some are absurd. Guys that suck at shooting have very high tendencies. Manipulate them. If you crank up the tendencies for your best player, he will score a ton of points have have a change at landing you more coaching points through achievements.

                    6. Change players' positions as appropriate. Changing a PG to SG almost always makes them have a higher rating. Sometimes changing around other positions helps too!

I have many more tips. I'll post more if anybody is still reading this forum regarding this game. I still play it all the time.

College Hoops 2K8 General and Recruiting Tips

Here are some more thoughts on how to maximize your success in the game:

                      1. Player experience (juniors and seniors) are crucial in the game and previous playing time for that matter. If you look at the settings, the green experience/team chemistry meter is cranked up to a 100% effect. This means that even if you have five freshmen starting who are significantly better than your opponent, you can still lose because of lack of playing time and experience. I've experimented with this countless times, and it appears that playing upperclassmen has direct impacts on winning success.

                      2. Don't always use all of your allotted scholarships, especially if you have one or two left, and there aren't any good recruits left. Don't settle for a two star recruit simply because you have scholarships left. There are several reasons for this: A. This is one way you can get a player to transfer to your school (others have said how they never get transfers--I've had a few and good ones too!) B. Save the scholarship for a better player the next year. C. Sometimes the computer feels bad and will give you solid walk ons. It's important to get in a good flow with scholarships. Some like to have five juniors starting with five freshmen on the bench. The next year they'd have five seniors and five sophomores who will ultimately start as juniors the next year. Others like to recruit just two or three players each year. Find out what works best for you.

                      3. If you have crappy players on the bottom of your bench that are unhappy and want to leave, let them! This will provide you with more scholarships to give other players in the five week recruiting period after the season. Don't coddle them and give them a pep talk.

                      4. Adjust the coach settings to your liking. Some schools have crazy settings. For instance, VMI has most setting cranked up, pressure, constant pressing, fast breaking, etc. Tailor the settings to the type of players you have. If you only have five decent players and no bench, you can run hog wild.

                      5. I always give the initial five points to Charisma. It's the most important, in my opinion, to getting good recruits to get your team going. I'd rank the coaching attributes in this order of importance: Charisma, Teaching, Discipline, Offense/Defense, Scouting. I get Charisma to an A+ first. Then Teaching to an A+. Then Discipline to a B or B+ then Offense/Defense to a B or B+ and so on. People have different philosophies on what works best for them.

                      6. Choose wisely when switching to a Power conference team (ACC/Big10/Big12/Big East/SEC/Pac 10). Look at who their freshmen, sophomores and juniors are. Yes, it's cool to go to a power team, but if you pick the wrong team, you can be unsuccessful and get fired. Also, when you're in a power conference you tend to get five star players who go to the NBA early. So there are pros and cons to small schools and power schools. You can win an NCAA championship with a small or mid major school if you recruit well and manage your team properly. It takes time. Sometimes going from a small to mid major or major can be gratifying.

                      7. I like to change the amount of minutes that my starters and bench players play. You can auto adjust it, but I like to do a strategic number of starters and respective minutes based on how good they are. This can impact how fast their attributes grow and in turn affect team chemistry/experience.

                      8. When playing the game, the pick and roll is almost unstoppable. If you execute it right and do a direct pass to the player who is screening for the PG, it works almost every time if you need cheap buckets.

                      9. In order to get the Player of the Year or the Mid Major Player of the Year, there's an easy way to do it. For your best player, ideally a Center, crank up the tendencies of close shot, middle shot, 3pt and drive to 95% or so (I don't like to do 99 because I've seen it go back to 0 or 1). For your other players, make their tendencies all very low! I wouldn't do 0 or 10, but make them all very modest like 20 or so. The player with the cranked up tendencies should average 30 points per game plus depending how good he is. If you have an 80 rated center with a good Close shot rating, he could score 35 to 40 points a game. I think it's easiest to do with Centers, because they also get a lot of rebounds and blocks. This is how to get these two achievements easily! Keep in mind for the Mid Major Player of the Year, you have to be at a small or mid major school; however, your player could get BOTH of the POY awards which means 2x coaching points.

                      10. To get to 900 wins or more, the easiest way is to change your schedule to play easy teams at home. You should easily be able to win 20 to 25 games per season. 40 years x 25 wins per season is 1,000 wins.

I'll post more tips and ideas on CH2K8 if anybody is still reading this!

Re: College Hoops 2K8 General and Recruiting Tips

When doing the Create A Recruit, here are a few considerations:

                          1. Creating world recruits are a good idea as they are easier to sign. Be careful if you're a small school and you create a four or five star world player. I've lost them in the recruiting battle.

                          2. Don't make their potential too high! Potential is one of the main reasons why your players go pro prematurely! I like to create my prospect about how I'd like them overall, and I give them a low potential.

                          3. You can always do the trick of creating them at a wrong position. If you need a PG, create a 5'11" Center. Obviously rebounding and blocking will be low (2 staples of a Center). He should be a low rated Center. You can sign him then switch him to the desired PG position.

                          4. If you don't create a world prospect, another good way is to create them from the hometown of your school or close by. It will help if he wants to be "close to home".

                          5. When you do Create A Recruit, try to create them for a position you need. It's best if you don't have any other players at that position or only graduating seniors. Regardless of player's interests, everybody wants playing time! If you want a better Center but already have a couple underclassmen on your team, change them to PF. You don't want to have ANY players of the same position on your roster. This helps immensely!

                          6. If you create a player who is 7'4", 7'5" or 7'6", even if they aren't super good, even around a 76 or so, I've seen them go pro! The game knows that a 7'5" or 7'6" center is a rarity. They will go pro prematurely and be coined "Top Pick".

Just a warning: if your goal is to get the number one guy the majority of the time it's going to be quite difficult. Even Kentucky doesn't do this irl.
