Reds Franchise (Trade and FA questions)

Just started a franchise with the Reds. I'm looking to move Rolen around mid season to make room for Billy Hamilton. At that point I may move BP to 3rd and pair Hamilton with Cozart in the middle. I also want to pick up a solid left handed OFer. Votto and Bruce are my only lefties right now. So Rolen, Heisy/Ludwick and maybe a prospect for a left handed bat. Any ideas.
Also, whats going on with Soler? Still looking like the Cubs? I may pick him up.

I think Hamilton needs another year before he gets to the bigs. How many years does Rolen have left on his contract?

      Zero.

I'm 4-11 in my Reds franchise. I keep losing one run games.....sigh. Frustrating to say the least.

He's not ready in real life but I want him leading off by mid season in my franchise. Rolen has been terrible offensively and defensively. I will get into one once every 3 games with Heisy but KO wayyyyy too much. I see plenty of ks with Stubbs and Bruce, ha. I'm thinking I may try to get Rasmus. He's a friend of mine and has a vendetta against the Cards.

Well if you're trying to contend this year, let Rolen ride out his contract. Give Hamilton a whole year in the minors. Then in offseason, pick some guys up in FA. If you're not trying to contend, I'd find a trade where you can get a prospect or two, B or C rated, and maybe pick up a vet from FA during the season. I really think you should keep Hamilton down, it'll help him in the long run.

Colby Rasmus? You're friends with him IRL? That would be a good trade, but I don't see Toronto doing it. You really don't have that much to offer them, and they're looking at Rasmus for the future of their outfield I would assume.

The problem is that I cannot hit with Rolen. I hit a lot better with lefties.
And yeah Colby was our rivals in high school then both had friends that played at Au so hung out down there a lot, and in Atl.

Ohh, gotcha. Well i'm not sure who you could ship him out for. You can't have a lefty at 3B, so it'd have to be an outfielder. And that's pretty cool

I cut Cairo and signed Blake to platoon with Rolen and back up Votto. I also traded Bailey and Didi to the Nats for Lannan and Rendon so I have my 3rd baseman of the future and a decent lefty long reliever. I will probably try to find a one year player for my second season because Rendon probably still won't be ready. Heisey, Votto and Bruce are raking for me mid way through May and Mesoraco has taken over for a seriously slumping Hannigan and leads for Rookie of the year right now.

Soler is probably going to sign for $25m/5 years so if you plan on extending Phillips Soler might not be realistic.

The Angels would probably realistically be willing to move Callaspo or Trumbo for a top young arm in the bullpen and a prospect as long as you took Abreu. That would give you either a solid contact or power bat but weaker fielding thirdbase man and a left handed bat off the bench.

Mark Reynolds would be an easy trade but you would be adding strikeouts to your lineup

I may end up trying to get Ben Revere. The Reds would finally have a leadoff man.

Does anyone think that Billy Hamilton is a little overrated? I also think Stubbs' speed is a little low. Bailey and Arroyo are both 0-4 with era's over 6.00 on my franchise. Sadly I've pitched a few of those games.

I like Cozart, so I'll probably have him move to 3rd when Hamilton is ready to come up. By the looks of it, i'll be out of contention by mid July

Hamilton's speed isn't overrated. He's probably the fastest player in baseball right now, that includes the majors. His hitting has some work to do, but he does seem to be able to take a walk pretty well. I think his floor is Juan Pierre as far as a hitter goes. He'll be incredibly disruptive on the bases. Stubbs speed should be 92 at least. 82 is a slap in the face to him.

Hamilton's overall is so high solely because of his speed, which is legitimate. IMO Stubbs' speed is too low and Phillips' too high.

Yes I believe Billy is overrated. His power is too high from both sides. I know he has gotten better but I was at a pre draft workout in Yankee Stadium when I saw this skinny kid who looked out of place in the cage. The bat was being knocked out of his hands, I couldnt believe he was there with all these high end college and high school prospects........then we got to the 60. Wow, he embarrased his partner. I was kind of impartial when Cincy took him in the 2nd. i didnt think he would be able to handle the bat enough to play at the major league level, but I loved his speed and quick twitch athleticism, and the fact he is from Mississippi. I think he is so fast that anything he puts in play(not fly balls) is a potential hit.
