    Atlanta Shortstop Crisis

Hey. I have a Braves franchise rollin and Im pretty settled on all my position players besides shortstop.

Before I started spring training I made a trade:

ATL recieves: RA Dickey(SP) Jordany Valdespin(SS), and A potential reliever

NYM recieves: Tim Hudson(SP) and an F potential catcher

The starting lineup (in no particular order):

    C: Brian McCann
    1B: Freddie Freeman
    2B: Dan Uggla
    3B: Chipper Jones
    SS: 4 candidates
    LF: Martin Prado
    CF: Michael Bourn
    RF: Jason Heyward

    Rotation:

    1: Tommy Hanson
    2: Jair Jurrjens
    3: RA Dickey
    4: Brandon Beachy
    5: Mike Minor/ Randall Delgado

I have four good shortstop candidates:

    1st: Tyler Pastornicky
    2nd: Jordany Valdespin
    3rd: Andrelton Simmons
    4th: Jack Wilson

Jordany Valdespin started opening day. I skipped spring training. Ironically, we played Mets and it was Hanson versus Hudson. Braves won 2-0 and Valdespin went 1-4. Who should get the most playing time and rank them 1st-4th.

Jack Wilson is not a starter on any major-league team so u can leave him out....if i had rank em, i'll go Simmons, Valdespin then Pastornicky

I would let Jack Wilson start for the first few weeks. Then at the end of 2-4 weeks whoever got off to a hot start gets the call up to start. But if he starts struggling you bring up the next player who is performing well. Until one player establishes himself as an acceptable starter.

Too early to tell, but Andrelton looks pretty good so far in real life. But in my Braves franchise (started a long time ago, and I've left it in offseason 2012-13 for a while now), he's not anywhere near major league ready. I don't know much about Valdespin, so I can't really comment on him. But when I go back to my Braves franchise, I'm going to reevaluate Andrelton's ratings (was at Turner when he hit his first homer; he'll hit a few, and he can pick it; he'll get a bump of some kind), turn Pastornicky into more of a utility player (that's what the Braves are doing), and see if Simmons can handle it, assuming he's going to be my SS of the future.

But as for you specific situation, essentially going with whichever of the three young guys is performing best (or rated best), with Wilson as the backup, would probably be the best way to go.

Simmons has been a beast for me. Im a couple weeks into June and I called him up, been about 5 games but he's hitting over .400 with 3 rbi's and 2 doubles. Has a great arm too.

If u don't have a SS of the future, maybe u have a guy that's a year away. I'd look to acquire Omar Vizquel from the Jays. He's 44 but man he's really solid T the plate and kills defensively. If u play all your games he really shines over 162

You could maybe platoon at short, with Vadelspin against righties and Pastornicky against lefties? Jordany has some pop and some speed, not too sure about Patornicky and the others.

Well I would definitely alter Andrelton's ratings first off. He is already in the top 5 defensive Shortstops in the Majors. He was drafted as a pitcher who threw upper 90's, so he has a cannon from short. He isn't going to hit more than 3 or 4 homers, but he has decent pop for a lot of doubles and is faster than Pastornicky. I would have him rated as ~5-10 points less in Contact and a few more than that in Power from Pastornicky, but 2 or 3 points higher in Speed and a TON of points higher in defense. Pastornicky is not a Major League Shortstop based on his defense. So, between those 2, it's really would you rather have top notch defense and around replacement level offense, or a little above average offense and way below average defense. Long-term, Pastornicky is either a starting second basemen or a utility player. I'm a Braves fan so I have been watching these two all year, and I feel like that's about how they compare.

As for Valdespin, I have no idea. I think you made a bad trade there to be honest. I know the Braves have a ton of young pitching, but Hudson would have been good to have for at least 2012.

I agree with this 100 percent. A-Sim should be your SS.

                      I am using my hometown "A" team. I went with Pastornicky @ SS. Through 36 games BA .280 1HR 4RBI 8R 42B & 1 3B , but he does have 7ER. I bat him in the coveted 8th slot and look for the 4SFB.
