How Can We Use OS To Create Football Havens For Online Play In M13?

I am pretty passionate about this topic because I feel like OS has lots of gamers I would enjoy playing against over the internet but the majority of those gamers have a understandable negative impression about online play. Even though there are many things I would like to see EA/Tiburon do at the company level to make online play more inclusive, I refuse to just twiddle my virtual thumbs in the meantime.

First off I would like to see OS management and Mods along with its' members get involved with creating OS endorsed online communities with certain guidelines, settings and slider sets. In M12 I felt like the OS online community came out the gates strong but tapered off, in part due to some limitations of the community feature itself, like no lobbies. I have no idea if online communities will have lobbies in M13 but I think we can still improve their lasting appeal with predetermined guidelines, settings and slider sets.

What I am thinking of is maybe two OS endorsed M13 Online communities, one set to All-Madden and the other to All-Pro difficulty, both with agreed on OS member created slider sets best suited each difficulty settings. Next simple guidelines for both OS OCs, not hardcore rules, that just emphasize playing football and respecting each other.

I am not so delusional as to believe everyone even from OS will agree with every opponents playstyle but my belief is that this can be the jumpoff for more like minded OS gamers to interact. IMO, that's where I hope the respect factor comes in so if your OS OC opponent does not agree with your playstyle or vice versa, let that be known as early as possible, not after being down 10+ and do a friendly quit, to move to potentially find a more compatible gamer. These interactions can then potentially lead to changing the stigma associated with online play for some and make for a bigger pool for potential league members for current and yet to be created Connected Career online leagues.

Well that's my thoughts on it in a nutshell and I want to hear what others think about something like this and any ideas they have on how this could be done in a successful way.

Ok,

First we need great commissioners to monitor and track players with bad habits that wouldnt mesh well with the gameplay requirements.

Have Prizes and things that will draw in more people and keep them playing the game regardless of its shortcomings. I for one dont have a problem with putting in for some sort of prize of some sort even if its not monetary.

OS sponsored events every other week or so and add a streaming link to the site so we can spectate or whatever to get engaged in everything going on. With so many people here who would play, we could have a host of games being streamed and ones people would actually like to see be played. Especially during the off season if everything is still going strong!

This is a great community, we could even challenge other communities and leagues for bragging rights as long as we keep it civil and trash talking doesnt become personal!

Ill have some more later!

What makes it difficult is the open definition of "sim" play.

Every single person has a different belief of what sim play is. You may play somebody that you felt did some cheesy crap the entire game but he felt it was 100% sim.

Outside of leagues, it's difficult to trust hoping into a game (even with the users here at OS) and know what you are walking into.

I'd like to play some of the guys on here that seem to know a lot about football...As for the sim stuff just play the game for the people using 1 play the whole game yeah I could see them getting kicked out but if you make to many rules about what a player can and can't do then it's not going to be fun playing the game.

I feel you Smoke but that's more for OS sponsored leagues, not OS online communities, right? I am just trying to focus on two football "fishbowls" for OSers and those interested in playing football in Madden and respecting their opponents can interact.

Also, if I am not mistaken, the Online communities have "mod" abilities that would allow OS Mods to remove people from the community.

I tried to be careful not to mention "sim" because of where that term takes a discussion. I am advocating for OS "fishbowls" that's not about "sim" so much as about playing football and respecting each other enough to have no problem friendly quitting a game if your playstyles do not mesh, for whatever reason.

I understand what you are saying, that's why I am not advocating for some hardcore rulebook, just respect for one another and let the settings/slider sets address internal game play.

For example, I know KBLover refers to a slider set he uses that the fatigue allows for more realistic game play surrounding no huddle and general over use of players. So I think things like that make for an environment more conducive to playing football.

Why not open up a League Daddy page or use DLG to host your league.

Big Deal you could be the commish and oversee the entire league and then pick a "panel" of commissioners.

Agree on a rule set and then work it out from there. You would be playing in your own league iwth rules that you all agree upon.

im surprised you all werent doing this anyways lol - boom!
