    Psychic D is still here

I ran a few QB runs and a few HB runs and a few read options against various defenses on AA and Varsity and got pretty much the same results. The Linebackers and the Lineman both disregard their assignments and basically blitz on running plays.

On the QB runs, the Linebackers instantly blitz without hesitation.
On the HB runs, the Linebackers hesitates a bit but don't drop back in zone or man. Then they blitz.
On the options, there's more hesitations and still don't drop back in zone or man.
This without a doubt confirmes that the psychic defense is still in the game and running rampant. I even put every player on defense in a deep zone and the same happens.

So players who are staring at the ball carrier (QB/HB) are reacting to the play rather than their assignment, is that what I am reading?

They are not reacting to what they see. They magically know the playcall before the play even develops.

arent Linebackers supposed to react to what happens in the backfield?

As someone who played linebacker the whole time I played, you read the offensive linemen. If they give away a run, you are going and blowing that play up. If they stand straight up you drop into coverage. Of course the linebackers "blitz" on running plays it's what they are supposed to do.

Of course but the problem is that they "react" as soon as the play starts. As soon as the QB gets the ball on a QB run they're already "blitzing".

Yeah but I promise you that you don't have instant reaction time and it's a problem when the same thing doesn't happen on PA. Yes the blocking is different but the LBs shouldn't play run D instantly as the play starts.

You play the run first then drop into pass coverage. It's a video game though so the reaction time might be a little too fast. The key to see if there is psychic D in the game is look at the defensive backs and how long it takes them to jump into the run defense.

That is a good point. The reaction time is way too fast. I think the DBs react fast too. Although I didn't specifically look at the Defensive Backs. I will look at that later tonight. Psychic D is also prevalent in the playcalling towards runs and passes.

It's true, I tested this last night.

Ran several plays up the and each time the linebackers blitzed in to close the holes. The first time I ran a pass? They miraculously dropped back into zone coverage right away.

You'll also noticed that if you come to the line in a formation...say a running play, and audible to a passing play but in the same formation, the defense will change its alignment to play the pass. Audible back to a running play? They change their alignment once again. This is especially obvious in shotgun formation.

Makes the game not fun at all.
