I'm going with the same idea as my last thread, except I'm just gonna go with one team. I'll try my luck with the Grizz this season, but also keeping everyone in the loop about the rest of the league in detail. Maybe I'll try a new team each season, who knows... I DO know that for the 2012-2013 season, I will focus on the Memphis Grizzlies

-I assigned the free agents to teams where they needed the depth or a solid replacement for a loss at a position. I will spend the next few days, possible just one but we'll see, on editing and creating realistic contracts for the players I signed so that someone like Brendan Haywood is not making 14M a year. YIKES.

-I will take into account the injuries that will prevent guys from playing this season [Derrick Rose] and sit them out til they can return.

-If you want to know what any squad looks like, just let me know and I'll post their depth charts...

    NOTABLE TRADES

LAL gets: Dwight Howard, Earl Clark
CLE gets: Andrew Bynum, Glen Davis
ORL gets: Anderson Varejao, Tyler Zeller, Josh McRoberts, 2013 1st round pick [CLE], 2014 2nd round pick [CLE], 2013 & 2014 2nd round picks [LAL]

Note: the reason I made the trade just mentioned is for competitive purposes. Since I am in the Western Conference, I feel like I needed a super team to "BEAT THE ODDS" against, as well as it makes another solid Eastern Conference team in Cleveland.

MIL gets: Kevin Martin, 2014 1st round pick [HOU]
    HOU gets: Monta Ellis

Memphis and its 'Not-So Secret Weapon'
        by StraightBaylien

MEMPHIS -- The Memphis Grizzlies have been more than impressive the last two off seasons, and their depth off the bench has gotten a lot of the credit. O.J. Mayo and Gilbert Arenas are two names that come to mind when you think of key contributors off the bench just last season. With two plug and play guys no longer on the roster, we ask who is going to be there to fill the void for the Grizz? Here's a look at an expected key figure for the Memphis bench this season...

        DARRELL ARTHUR - 6'9" | 225 lbs | Kansas - 9.1 PPG, 4.3 RPG, .497 FG% (2010-11)

At first glance Darrell Arthur might remind some people of a Glen Davis type of player; stocky, low to the ground, passive type of player, but this is the exact opposite. Darrell Arthur is an explosive, great rebounding, physical low post player with a sweet stroke on the jumper on the side. Despite missing the entire 2011-12 season due to a torn MCL, Darrell Arthur was signed to a 3 year deal worth $10M.

"We've seen what Darrell can do, his last healthy season showed a double double kind of guy, consistent too. I can see him being my one guy that I would be swapping into the lineup on certain nights, given matchups. He's the most versatile weapon on our bench. I feel like at first this guy will fly under a lot of teams' radars, but by the middle of the year, I'm sure he'll be our not so secret weapon." said head coach Lionel Hollins when asked what role Arthur would play this season.

"I'm excited to be back. I'm really excited. I'm... uh... I don't want to say that too much, I saw what everybody did with Tebow.. [laughs] but seriously... uh, It hurt so bad to miss last season. Not just the physical pain, but the pain of not knowing what would have been if I could have played... but it felt great getting out in the preseason, really getting into a groove and picking up where I left off. It felt good to get a chance to shine after such a long recovery."

This "shining" that Darrell speaks of is his performance as a starter in the preseason games. The 6'9 forward put up nearly 18 points and 8 rebounds per game, in an average of 27 minutes, clearly contributing heavily to Memphis' 4-0 record. Its unclear whether this play will continute throughout the season or if Arthur can even stay healthy enough to play at this level, but one thing is for sure, Darrell Arthur is focused on the task at hand

"I think we can be more than just that surprise team that 'loses in the first or second rounds' I think we have the keys on this team to not only make noise in the playoffs, but shock the whole league and win it all."

GAY, GRIZZLIES WIN OT THRILLER ON THE ROAD, DEFEAT CLIPPERS 113-12

Rudy Gay driving to the basket in Wednesday night's victory over the Clippers
LOS ANGELES -- The Grizzlies began their season on the road in Staples Center. Behind Zach Randolph's 29 points and Rudy Gay's buzzer beater in OT, the Grizz beat the Clips 113-12.

For the Clippers, Blake Griffin and Chauncey Billups looked to have themselves a big night as they came out and scored the first 13 points for Los Angeles [Griffin, 7. Billups, 6] on route to a 24-22 deficit to the balanced offensive attack that was the Grizzlies.

The Clippers came back and outscored the Grizzlies by two points in the 2nd quarter, making it 49-49 at the half.

The second half was a neck and neck affair until about three minutes left when the Grizzlies made an 8-0 run to jump out to the largest lead of the night, which was 10 points. It seems then was when the CP3 show began, Paul himself scored the next 10 points (16 on the game) for the Clippers, including the drifter at the buzzer to send the game into OT.

Overtime was much like regulation, both teams scrapping and clawing for victory. With only 11 seconds on the clock, Memphis found themselves down by two points. Darrell Arthur inbounded the ball to Mike Conley, but apparently the pass was off as it flew over Conley's head and right into the hands of Chris Paul. Paul then subsequently stepped on the baseline, giving the ball back to the Grizz with 7 seconds to go.

"I told Coach Hollins 'if you give me the ball, I'll knock it down' he looked back at me and was like 'You've made it before, Rudy. ...just like all the other ones, now...' like, don't stress, just hit a shot."

Aruthur was attempting the inbound even after the previous blunder, but he got the ball into Conley who cut, drew a double team and kicked it out to Rudy Gay for 3...

Rudy Gay shooting the game winning 3 in overtime over defender Blake Griffin

"I could hear Coach Hollins on the bench 'Rudy! Not a 3!' but when you're feelin it, you're feelin it."

The buzzer sounds, Rudy Gay nets the three pointer to send Memphis to victory 113-12. The Staples Center was silent as the Grizzlies bench exploded, charging towards Rudy Gay who just stood with his hand up, wrist flexed, with the look of an assassin. Gay, modestly, gave his team mates high fives, but never cracked a smile. The Grizz are right back on the road again for a game tomorrow, against the dynamic duo of Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson's Utah Jazz at EnergySolutions Arena.

WROTEN TO MISS 4 WEEKS DUE TO ANKLE SPRAIN, SELBY EXPECTED TO FILL VOID

Tony Wroten, selected 25th overall by Memphis in 2012
MEMPHIS -- In Memphis' win over the Clippers, rookie guard Tony Wroten Jr. leaped for a rebound and severly sprained his ankle in the 3rd quarter. Grizzlies medical staff diagnose that the injury is not serious, but Wroten could miss up to 4 weeks of playing time, pending an MRI scheduled for Thursday morning. Wroten played 11 minutes off the bench before his injury in Wednesday night's contest. Josh Selby is expected to fill in until Wroten's return.

A second-year man out of Kansas, Josh Selby averaged 2.3 points, 1.1 assists, and 8.5 minutes in 28 games played last season.

GRIZZLIES CRUISE TO 2-0, DEFEAT JAZZ 98-82

Rudy Gay trying to work around the defense of Jazz forward, Gordon Hayward
UTAH -- Rudy Gay earned his second straight double double with 24 points and 12 rebounds in the Grizzlies' Thursday night victory over the Jazz. Shannon Brown had a similar, yet inferior game with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

As stellar as Memphis looked on defense, some of the Jazz shortcomings would be attributed to the early 1st quarter injury of starting point guard Mo Williams. The veteran guard started the game 0-3 before knocking down three straight jumpers, the last being a three pointer. The shot was followed by a collision with Memphis guard Michael Conley, resulting in a hard fall for Williams.

"I'm not gonna say it looks good, I'll tell you that. I'm all about being an optimist, but the doctors are saying Mo will most likely miss significant time." - Jazz Head Coach Tyrone Corbin on the Mo Williams injury

But not all hope was lost for the Jazz as Shannon Brown stepped into the point guard spot and contributed 20 points and grabbed 10 boards. The skepticism behind Brown running the one spot is his inability, and at times unwillingness, to pass the ball and set his team mates up.

"I'm being told the estimate time is three to four months. We wish him a speedy recover. In the mean time, we need to find a starting point..."

It is rumored that Utah will send their rookie Kevin Murphy down to the D-League to make room for a point guard signing. Jose Calderon, Luke Ridnour and Gilbert Arenas are some of the names that come to mind for replacing Williams as all these players were amnestied prior to the start of the season, and remain unclaimed.

On the other side, Memphis advances to 2-0 on the season, leaving Utah winless yet. The Grizzlies dominated every stat on the night, minus three point and free throw pecentage, along with never trailing in the game. The front court for the Grizzlies put in some great work as Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph both finished with 15 points and 8 rebounds each, Gasol added 5 assists on the night as well. The starters were not the only story with Memphis as their bench production was top notch. Filling in for the injured Tony Wroten, Josh Selby shined in his first game at the backup SG position as he poured in 8 points and 2 steals in 15 minutes. Mickael Pietrus also had 2 steals, both resulting in fast break layups for the Frenchman.

Both teams get a day break and have games scheduled on Saturday. Memphis will play their first home game of the year against Charlotte (1-0), while Utah will head back on the road to play their second game against Houston (1-1) in four days.

EDIT: I am going to be doing a new format to this. I'll be simming it month by month playing 3 or 4 main games per month and all of the playoffs, that is if I make them. I'll post the league leaders and standings every month along with summaries on surprise teams, injury reports, etc. Pretty much just league updates. I just simmed November 3rd - December 3rd and will post results soon. Thanks to whoever is following this.

LOS ANGELES SHIPS GASOL, BLAKE AND SACRE TO HOUSTON, WHITE, ASIK, HARRELLSON AND 1st ROUNDER TO LAKERS

The Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets have completed a trade that sends Paul Gasol, Steve Blake, and rookie Robert Sacre to Houston and in return, Los Angeles received Omer Asik, rookie sensation Royce White, Josh Harrellson and Houstons 1st round '13 pick.

This move was made mainly to clear some space in L.A.'s cap situation so they could tie the knot with Dwight for a four-year deal, with a fifth-year player option [reported $25M alone].

This kind of move so early in the season is quite uncommon, but Los Angeles felt they had to get Dwight for the long run while he was still committed.
"A player like Dwight doesn't come around very often. We've seen what he's capable of if he is in an environment that he wants to play in, and as of right now, Dwight has shown nothing but contentiveness and has been a pleasure to work around. He has said he is in it and to be our second guy now, and maybe a few years down the line, our main option."
Mike Brown of course talking about the fact that it has been rumored that Lakers star guard Kobe Bryant will tie up the shoes once he wins his sixth championship ring and ties Michael Jordan's record. Dwight Howard has stated
"I haven't heard anything directly from Kobe that would lead me to say 'once he wins the ring, he's out' I mean, I know Kobe has three or four GREAT seasons left in him. If he can compete, he will, I believe. As far as retirement, in conversations we've had, he's never said anything about it and I've never asked."

DERRICK ROSE EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS, COULD BE BACK IN ACTION IN AS LITTLE AS THREE WEEKS

Chicago medical staff has reported that star guard Derrick Rose has been advancing through his therapy quicker than anyone could have imagined based on how severe the injury was thought to be. When originally diagnosed, Rose's knee was said to be on a 10 month recovery course, now it is looking more like 8.
"I feel good in practice. I just recently got to running again, and everything seems fluid. No tightness, no stiffness, fluid. I want to thank the medical staff for everything they've done. Without this top notch team, my recovery wouldn't have been half as successful. I hope to be back before the start of January."
