Re: Future of NCAA Football
Competition is a good thing... Hopefully it comes to that, but like the article said, it's doubtful that another company jumps into the mix with a college football game.
It would be a damn shame if we went without a college football game after next year... At worst, I hope EA continues to make the game without the exclusive license. At best, we'll get another player in the game to make EA step their game up with this series.
Interesting...Comment

My comment was not directed towards people who wanted competition, I'm fine with competition. It was about the people who want to see it go away.Comment

Re: Future of NCAA Football
I don't want it to go away. I disagree with the statement that no one will step up and make another game. It may not happen right away, but the market for college football in this country is too large. There's too much money to be made, and ratings wise, CFB takes a back seat only to the NFL. I think another company would be foolish not to take the chance, esp when they know how fed up many of the fans are. If they knew they could make a game as good as EA, then they would do it. The market is too big to ignore.
What would end up happening would be EA would step their game up, and we'd end up with a sweet game after a few years. JMO"Statistics always remind me of a fellow who drowned in a river where the average depth was three feet." -Woody HayesComment

Re: Future of NCAA Football
The chances of another company making a college football game without an NFL game to go along with it is very slim. So even without the exclusive license, EA will be the only game in town for NCAA because EA still holds the exclusive rights to the NFL.
Companies want both 2 go together, NCAA and NFL. NCAA alone isn't worth the risk to smaller companies.Comment

Re: Future of NCAA Football
i disagree, the market is there, the current product in the market is bad, there's plenty of opportunity. that doesn't mean the resultant product will be any good, (see the 80s-90s NFL games like QB Club, Blitz, Play Action, John Elway, etc)The chances of another company making a college football game without an NFL game to go along with it is very slim. So even without the exclusive license, EA will be the only game in town for NCAA because EA still holds the exclusive rights to the NFL.

NothIng like good old fashioned greed.

i'd say if anything, anti-competitive practices are wussifying, it means you don't want to compete. rather than try to beat someone you just want to buy your victoryComment

Re: Future of NCAA Football
Why? because EA negotiated exclusivity on it? I mean come on...
EA better keep making the game...for real.Comment

Re: Future of NCAA Football
If EA hits a home run with '14, couldn't they theoretically move forward with the game the way it is, no longer using the license but keeping what is already in the game? Then also, since they wouldn't be "making money" off of the ncaa couldn't they in turn send out roster files for free at the beginning of each season, then sell us game updates/upgrades every season as game improvements?
I hope EA finds a way to stick this crap up everyone who is involved's butt."Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory."Comment

Re: Future of NCAA Football
I for one am really glad for this decision. EA makes too much money off this game to stop making it if they have no competition, and I could completely see 2K sports working on a game for 2 years to try and steal market share away from EA. If we could get something along the lines of NCAA The Show then I would easily drop $120 on it. Also, the question about having rosters on day one is not a question of the NCAA not allowing EA to do it. It is because you cannot use someone's likeness for trade or advertising purposes without having a legal agreement with them (parody and satire are protected). You would have to pay the players like they do the NFLPA, but that would result in them losing their college eligibility.Comment
