Why can't you play any player out of position on Madden?

I know you can play K/P at QB, TE at FB and vice versa, OT at TE, OLB at DE and vice versa, etc. But why can't you play a WR at QB or a DT at LB, etc. It'd be cool to experiment. I know you could do stupid stuff like DT at QB, although that would be funny. And why does Madden let K/P play QB? They think K/P are the best non-QB to play QB? That makes no sense.

Bc ea doest want you to know that ratings dont mean squat. If they let you do this people would make videos of wrs and qbs playing oline and dominating or cbs throwing 30 yard strikes to wrs

The game is cheesy enough, last thing I want is some cheeseball dominating with DeSean Jackson at HB because he has high elusiveness ratings... or DeSean scrambling around like crazy because his speed/acceleration is so high it's game breaking at the QB position...

People didnt like the possibilities of this back in the day so they took it out but man im kinda glad they did. Ahh...memories of michael vick been able to play all the skills position. Lol

That's weird everytime I've attempted a pass with a punter or RB the pass has floated in the air like a wounded duck.


Besides if somone really wanted to test this they could. Just copy a CB's ratings over a QB's rating and have at it.

If it's in the game. Exactly! You don't see DT's or LBers playing QB in the NFL so you shouldn't see it in an NFL sim either.

just pick a playbook with wildcat and u can put desean as the wr who takes the snaps then u could throw ball with him as well in that. i also think u can change the play and have a wr as rb as well. call like 4 wide and then switch to a running play.

This thread illustrates how EA/Tiburon has fundamentally effed up football this console generation, lol.

I understand why they don't allow gamers to place player sat any position but at what point do they actually address the core issue of risk/reward so that option can be added back? If my car gets a flat and I don't have a full spare, the "doughnut" is a temporary solution to get around but it's not a fix.

I can't imagine playing a basketball game and gamers not being able to put players in wherever position they saw fit, as long as the proper risk/reward is represented. People shouldn't be putting a DT at QB because it isn't a successful tactic, not because the game continues to restrict it.

All that said, until they finally get around to fixing the fundamental issue with it, I would prefer it be limited.

i agree. as long as the risk/reward is represented then it should be aloud. i rarely do anything like this but for MY 60 dollars if i wanna have brian orakpo line up in the backfield or line up for a 50 yd fg, then so be it

I refuse to believe that people are able to have successful passing games with a punter at quarterback on any reasonable difficulty level when I could tell a blatantly obvious difference between playing with Tony Romo, Jon Kitna, Stephen McGee, and Terrelle Pryor - all true quarterbacks.

This whole "ratings mean nothing" nonsense needs to stop, because it's simply misguided and wrong.

To the topic, the depth chart limitations I'd guess are legacy artifacts of last-generation designs where EA games had no effective counters for scrambling quarterbacks and skill players playing out-of-position. Given that the game has become much smarter, this is probably something they should consider revisiting.

I guess if you want to make it specifically about Punter at QB than you might me right. However, when considering a wider scope of any player at any position, like Punters on the OL, then the bold is misguided and wrong.

Now in this specific video, he seems to be talking about using sliders to make the ratings matter, as a hopeful sign for this being addressed in M12. However, he still admits, that even with those slider adjustments, the game doesn't seem to have the animations for ratings to properly play out what should happen.

Yeah lol once in superstar for GameCube or PS2 I was a HB for the Colts, and for some reason Adam Vinatieri was starting LG... I was out of there at the end of the season.

I disagree though Sky. It's kind of like when people justify the way EA/Tiburon does ratings or a host of other things, because they can't please everyone. However, they shouldn't be trying to please everyone, they should just be representing football as realistic as they possibly can.

I am sure most of us remember the days of gamers being able to be unrealistically successful with speedy unskilled players at various positions. However, the fix for that at some point should have been to overhaul how AWR effects position changes, User control and the adaptive AI to realistically regulate those tactics, with limiting position changes being temporary.

I think people are willing to give credence to temporary limitations until fundamental solutions can be discovered and implemented.
