The Benefit If Spectator Mode Was Voted The Big E3 Annoucement For Next Year

Alright here me out before revoking my "sim" card. No matter what, EA/Tiburon must have something big to promote for E3 and the simpler that feature is, the more resources, including time, that the devs can hypothetically have for other areas of the game. I think AI may very well be the most needed area of attention but I am concerned that if some new AI system is made the E3 feature for M14, that will lead to it being "funned" up to accommodate the masses.

No game to date has mastered Spectator mode and we all know how EA/Tiburon marketing thrives on presenting something done uniquely. With Spectator mode EA/Tiburon could not only promote Madden games to be watched live on the console but from the web as well, permitting access through, computers, smartphones, ipads, etc. The best part is, just like with television, Youtube and other mediums, EA/Tiburon can capitalize on the endless streams of potential advertising revenue. Just imagine at E3 June 2013, all the Madden 14 expo stations, connected to the web through EA servers and all the Madden games played at E3 being available for watching live, through the new M14 spectator mode.

EA/Tiburon gets a feature they can market to the masses that potentially brings in tons of advertising revenue and the devs hopefully have the time to flesh out the more important NFL aspects and User options for the game.

    Thoughts?

I don't know. I think I'd be more in favor of no monumental features, nothing fancy. Just take core issues and one by one knock out as many as you can. It wouldn't be great for advertising or hype but it would be more valuable than any of that can accomplish.

Agreed but the point I was trying to make is, that doesn't seem to be an option, lol. If you look back over the years, some marquee E3 feature seems to be a given, so it's a matter of what feature it will be, not if there will be one.

So the next big thing to make playing Madden better is to... watch it?

If Spectator Mode was a big reveal, I wouldn't buy that year's Madden. No question about it.

Cool idea, but I wouldn't want EA hyping this up. Just let the game speak for itself.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of it. I think I'd rather see something along the lines of the "Simpler. Quicker. Deeper." stuff from a couple years ago. Not that exact outlook, just a more theme, rather than feature, oriented outlook.

I'd be happy if next year's "big" feature was something like the return of owner mode in CCM just because they're pretty much headed that direction already. It isn't anything huge but if you take something like that and then throw fixing a bunch of the other core problems on top of it, it goes a long way. You're not going to get the same buzz like with the Infinity Engine but I think it would do more for them in the long run.

              EA MMA had "Spectator mode".

I've said before that it was a blast setting up fight cards and talking *ish during fights that werent yours. Durring the fights you could only talk to your oponent, but the rest of the card was spectating and talkin *ish.

If madden can set this up for CCM so that I could gather with the people in my online CCm and the watch a game between 2 members while drinking a beer and talking Football with my friends? Winning!

The thing is, Spectator Mode may actually be really resource intensive thing to implement. The widespread multi-platform access you're speaking of, from a lay perspective, seems like it would be hard as hell make work. Selfishly, I don't want any part of the team spending a lot time on something that I don't care about in the slightest.

The new team has said no gimmicks, so I optimistically think that whatever they choose as their major marketing item for next year, its going to be something that is gameplay related.

Fifa seems like its been all about the new gameplay/A.I. stuff for at least the last 3 years, hopefully Madden will take that same approach.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

I can think of about a half-dozen fighting games that say otherwise.

Even if you limit that statement to sports games only, there's EA MMA, which came with online spectator mode two years ago.

I don't see it happening. I don't think the masses want to watch competitive Madden games online...unless they're playing in them.

Yes, I can understand the slight demand for this as a third-tier social networking niche feature, but as a marquee back-of-the-box product seller? I'm not sure if the demand is there among casual gamers.

Then again, what do I know? I hardly play online, don't tweet, only use Facebook when absolutely necessary and don't care to watch competitive video gaming. Knowing how people play Madden online, watching the #1 and #2 players on the Xbox 360 Madden 14 leaderboard isn't something I'd watch. But if there's a market out there for it and enough "average Joes" are interested, I'm sure the developers are already brainstorming.

Make it an option, but not a big announcement.

The bigger announcement would be something along the lines of complete customization of players, teams and coaches. This of course would be after announcing that OL and DL along with WR and DB interactions getting completely overhauled.

                        Anyone disagree?

LOL, my suggestion is getting skewered in this thread because I believe some things are getting misunderstand. What I am suggesting is that Spectator Mode implemented in the right way could very well satisfy EA/Tiburon's desire to make extra revenue, marketing's desire to have a E3 feature to promote to the masses and not usurp so much development resources, mainly time, from improving other areas of the game. To Jfsolo's point, I could be mistaken about the resources needed to make this happen but I do think it fits the other criteria easily.

I think what some people are overlooking is the value Spectator Mode could bring to the competitive arena for Madden as well as to the expansion of online play in general. Being able to monitor and regulate games in an online league, community or monetary tournament could take off like Youtube. However, the true value for EA/Tiburon is in the potential advertising revenue which is why I would hope they would take this route.

I feel that this feature would lead to more exposure of Madden and aside from more resources hopefully being free to improve other areas, I think that exposure might lead to them producing a better NFL replicating product.

I honestly don't see it happening until next gen. Plus I think EA would have to cone up with some sort of cloud file storage system for that. You are talking in the several hundred thousands of games that would be uploaded for viewing.

God knows they have a hard enough time giving us live gameplay without lag... lol....
I can't imagine what would happen to games if people started tuning in to watch the lag-fest.
