Has Man Coverage Ruined The Game

After playing multiple games online, all unranked that is and playing against friends, i have seen that Bump & Run Man Coverage or Press Coverage in general are the cheap ways of getting wins on defense. It is almost impossible to pass when you have a overpowering read & react system with man coverage and Pass commit running rampant as well as aggressive pass defense. I loved this game out the box for the most part. ive learned to deal with the small flaws and while i could care less about the cosmetics of the game i want my game to feel like the game i love to watch on saturdays.

Im slowly falling out of love with this game outside of my main OD. Sliders take away the issue of the above issue for offline and i love offline but when i want to play online with friends and all i see is average and below average wideouts sticking to elite wideouts or even above average wideouts like glue, it pisses me of and makes me just say the hell with this game.

Maybe im doing something wrong and somebody can help or explain something to me.

work on your play selection. you can exploit the D for calling that defense

I remember a couple of years ago, zone defense was broken and most people were using man defense because it was the only way to even have a chance to stop offenses.

The last few years a short zone destroyed the slants. Now man does. Take away the slants and deep plays 90% of the time and the playbook gets much smaller.

Use your tight ends more against man bump and run coverage. Do curls and out routs because they won't be bumped off the line and can usually beat man coverage. Also call more runs plays such as draws and pulling guards. Hope this helps.

I am a run heavy team. Whats bothering me is that DBs run my routes faster than my wr's can. I use my TE's alot. Its the route mirroring that is so annoying. In my OD this doesnt happen due to sliders but jsut onlie games this just pisses me off.

yea man is way overpowered, it really limits your playbook...but one of the main reasons theres so many piks is EA's FIELD IS TO SMALL. Take a look at the size of the players and the size of the field theres no where to run and no where to throw.

YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! I've been trying to tell my friends this for years. This is one thing i loved about 2k football games, the spacing was great. It allowed you to run many route combinations and isolate players 1 on 1 without your teamates bringing their defender in the same area. For example, try throwing a fade in APF 2k8 at the goaline and compare it to NCAA or Madden its like your reciever has no room to run to the back pylon.

you cant call that a cheap way of getting wins. Man defense is a part of the game. You cant not use it. it may be overpowered but i for one wouldnt stop using it just because EA made it too strong. Sit back in zone all day and you gonna get killed.

the bump and run man defense is powered exactly where it should be.

you need to develop your offense to take advantage of that. My star wide receiver will almost always get open after the bump (particularly on go routes), and slats kill the man coverage.

Also, its highly susceptible to run plays, which opens up play action.

i am tired of people complaining about the game, when its their lack of skills thats actually causing the problem.

There is nothing wrong with my offense. I average 42 ppg and 275 passing yds a game. 85-9-5 rushing a game in a pass happy offense. My issue is my playbook is so limited because all guys do is go press man to take advange of route mirros. When DB's are 3 and 4 steps ahead of WRS. It makes me mad. Every person online plays this way. I like to play the game like i coach it. When i see stuff like that it makes me wanna just say screw it.

Thats not every play though. I dont have that same problem, and the irony is that the same thing you are complaining about here, is why others are complaining that you can go over the top of a DB and get big yardage plays.

Not sure which game you're playing my man. I've seen even mediocre defenses stick to receivers like glue even on out routes. I played as Oregon online against a guy playing as SMU! (Yes, Southern Methodist) When I tell you he played man coverage the entire game and just blitzed. His all-world corners were jamming my receivers so bad, I tried running screens but his d-lineman would pick it up most of the time and picked off one of my screen passes. Fatboy jumped like 10 feet in the air, it was just ridiculous man. Post routes hardly work on this game anymore and i keep seeing corners run the receivers' routes better than the receiver! SMH
