Career mode Q; How to move up depth chart and get more playing time (low-draft pick)

73 overall RB, 4th on depth chart (Colts)

Been practicing full games to try and get 1,000 points but have only been successful 2 of 5 times. Bought an upgrade that didn't change my overall, still 4th on depth chart after 5 weeks of season 1 and nothing but Special Teams duties so far.

The practices are frustrating, several times the DEF took the lead with less than a minute to go. I'm always in gun formations trying to earn points to buy skills to move up on the chart so i can get more playing time during real games, I must be missing something?!?

Is there a method to the low draft pick madness!? Am i supposed to be doing something in practice, are there goals that i don't know about that I'm not achieving?? Should I SIM the first season? Thanks everybody

lol, I'm getting really good at being blocked at the line on extra point attempts. You can really see my acceleration before the lineman blocks me!

HAHA. This game is crazy, I love the gameplay, but I think the quest to become a starter is a little skewed. I am a sucker for an underdog story, but I had to go high in the draft to even make it worth it for my player.

Yes, I play this game for the scrub to pimp, the zero to hero, the nothing to something story. Or atleast I used to. It's currently impossible to move up the chart without simply grinding for a year to several years (depending on which team you pick). There's honestly no good point in doing it besides wasting time in practice mode and you'll have to do enough of that regardless. Just pick a team and draft position that ensures that you'll start. Seriously to emphasize, if you succeed at every single practice offline and invest your points in the optimal fashion you'll gain 2 to 3 overall a season. Just don't do it. Pick a team you like that needs the position you play and select the lowest draft class that allows you to start.

Exactly, I feel the same way, but I'm recreating my RB as a high pick so i can battle with Donald Brown and actually get some playing time as a rookie. I suppose that's the answer to my question. I'm not missing anything, just picked the wrong back-story for the type of player I want.

Thanks for that info, by your math, it would take me 2 years (6 points overall) to compete with the 1st team. I just finished setting up my player as a high pick and he's now 79 OVR, same as Donald Brown. IDK if it did that on purpose or if i just got lucky. i didn't want to be the clear favorite right off the bat.

I came in as an undrafted QB and grinded as seattles backup qb for a year. At the end of the year I was no closer to starting. The first week of offseason I demanded to be released. I got offers from about 12 teams. Before signing with a team, I checked the roster page to see where I would fit on each of the teams. I signed with Denver and was the starter immediately. I liked grinding my first year because I felt like I earned the opportunity to start, and the practices provided a safety net for me to learn the feel of the new game. If you can make it through your first season, demnd a release and sign somewhere that you will get playing time.

That's a good idea, I'll try that when I play a QB. Seems like you would have more control over the practices and win the 1,000 points more often than not. Did you do the "normal" full game practices every time? I assume you would need to win most of the practices to get the points needed to build your guy up to decent OVR to get a starting job in year 2?

That's a good idea, I'll try that when I play a QB. Seems like you would have more control over the practices and win the 1,000 points more often than not. I did the "easy win" practice everytime for 1800 xp. At the begining of the season I was 74, by the end of the season I was 77. Peyton had retired, so Denver's backup was set to start. He was only 72, so I figured I would probably be in the mix for the job. You should definitely pay attention to how you fit into a teams scheme before you sign with them because if you don't fit well you might not be as rated as high to them as you expect.

When you are offered a contract as a free agent you are shown what the team's scheme is, what your rating will be within the new team, and how well you fit within that scheme(good, bad, etc.) You should definitely look at their roster before you commit and see what your rating is compared to others at their position.

I'm confused, you did the easy win practice every time and accumulated a total of 1800xp for the year? Or you got 1800xp each time you completed the practice?

I agree !!! I grinded out practice two years and came in as a high draft pick, learned the game, demanded a trade and ended up with the Dolphins under my Scheme , ended up being a great choice.
