Does "Swat ball" work for anyone?

I've been murdering the L1 and R1 button to attempt swatting at the ball, but my player will just stand there and look stupid. Is this happening for anyone else? I can't even use it for D-linemen so I can attempt to disrupt the QB. Pick-off attempts work fine with triangle, but I don't want to try that all the time. Any ideas or help? Thanks fellas!

I dont even use it at all man, and its ashame they swapped it out for the "ballhawking" gimmick!

Yeah, I don't get it. It randomly works when it wants to. I just tried with a LB, but I was close to the line and he attempted to swat ONLY when the ball was already in the air. But when I was in the middle of the field just to see if he'd swat or jump swat he stood there looking stupid.

this is probably the worst part about the game for me. L1 and even triangle wont work. whenever i press them like i would on the older maddens, nothing happens. so frustrating. I thought it was supposed to be easier to play the ball but im lucky to get a swat or pick ATTEMPT to work 1 out of 5-10 times.

I'm just glad to know I'm not trippin'. I'll post in the official patch thread to see if EA can fix this. That's how I lost to my cousin the other day. Knew what play he was doing and hit R1 to swat and I was betrayed by Ray Lewis, lol.

They changed it this year.... you need to hold the button to make them work. triangle works just fine. I don't use swat, but supposedly it is very aggressive this year so it will interfere if your not positioned correctly.

Not properly. It triggers late sometimes, but it certainly hasn't been reliable for me personally.

Add me to the list that can't get the swat or INT buttons to work half the time. When i try to pick it off, the ball sails over my guy and he doesn't react at all, therefore it's an easily completion.

I've been able to get both of them to work just fine, and think it's a great addition to the game.

In the past I had a tendency to get burned pretty easily because I often found it hard to judge the depth perception on plays down field when controlling a DB.

Now when the ball is about 10-15 yards from the receiver I hold down triangle or R1, depending on which type of play on the ball I think I should make, and the player will make the play if he is in proper position. Key is to hold the button down somewhat early. I also move my guy with the L stick, though I'm not sure if that is done automatically.

First time I swatted one away it was a great feeling. I understand some guys won't like it, having control taken away from them, but I like the ease with which it works. Or at least I like not getting burned so often.

And it doesn't work every time, but I've found that it's pretty realistic. In other words if you think you got a pick, hold triangle, and vice versa. But if your guy isn't in good position he won't make a play on the ball.

It also has something to do I think with fight ball air trait if it's conservative they won't really go up for it. Aggressive more risk/reward

When I user-swat, the defender just jumps in the air like he's blocking a kick and the ball bounces off his face/chest. I have yet to see a user-swat animation take place though I always see it when the CPU swats the ball.

Works for me. There have been some times where it didn't work but it almost always has been when my defender wasn't looking which I actually like. It was always a bit annoying to me how easy it was to just click to a defender and tap swat ball and basically become a "psychic defender". I will say that getting user picks this year does feel a lot more rewarding than before.

My take is I really like the multiple ways to defend a pass it really separates players and their abilities. Opens up gameplay while keeping it realistic!

(Y, Triangle) Hold button for interception- self explanatory works excellent this year and feels a bit more rewarding as Deuce said.

(R1, RB) "Ballhawk aggresive swat"- This will be your go all out to try and make a play swats long leaps, lunges, dives, pretty much holding this with make your guy sell out.

Holding button in anticipation to play has work also raw timing/ button press has had success to go into practice mode to test out which works better for you.

But the neat thing is this type of swat is dependent on players coverage ratings and positioning on play. Got a scrub or lesser player, and he isn't in proper position don't expect the play to be made. I use R1/RB with my superstars typically and nobody else.

(L1,LB) "Regular Swat- basic swat works occasionally for d-line, raw timing has worked and holding prior to play opportunity. Again test in practice mode to get a feel

That's the insight I can give you from toying with new pass defense & yes R1 i don't think i've not seen someone swat the ball, I barely see guys miss swats when I play I even see alot of on ground DB break ups by getting hand in their on way down using R1 or triangle
