Madden just crashed my system

Thankfully everything booted back up ok...but here's the story:

-PS3 Slim 160 gb, stock, original hard drive
-Ran a few CPU vs. CPU games over the course of 3 hours
-Quit the game as usual and heard the "oh no!" double-beep sound and the system powered off (no I did not accidently "turn off system")
-Waited a few seconds and booted the PS3 back up and instead of being prompted with the typical "system was not shut down correctly" message I got something I'd never seen before saying:

"There was a software problem press "X" to report this to SCEA...pressing X will provide information to SCEA and the Developer about this problem"

-After pressing X to report the info I then got the usual "system was not shut down correctly" message and then it did an "auto" file check/restore.

Kind of a scary moment as I'd never seen the first message before. But it cleary stated it was a software issue. It's unfortuante Madden has its in-game bugs, but crashing my system is a whole other bag of potatoes!

Anyone else have this issue?

Yeah, I played an Online H2H game last night and after I tried to quit the game from the menu, the screen went black- I got the double beep and had to run the troubleshooting upon start-up.

I've got a 80GB Fatboy with a 320HD custom drive.. I know Madden 06 destroyed my PS2 at one point, I'm hoping this isn't a recurring issue.

It's a bug on the EA server that is crashing your unit.

I think it's the PS3 firmware version that's having problems. They just had an update yesterday. I ALWAYS get the double beep when quitting a game; every game, not just Madden

Yeah, it has nothing to do with Madden.

It's either your system or like Obnoxious said, the firmware.

It happens 50% of the time whenever I quit any game.

Actually the firmware was for the cloud storage for Plus users.

I played several games online with no problems. It has to be EA server.

Exact same thing happened to me too.

I then played Brutal Legend for a bit and it didn't crash when I quit.

Well...the message I got said it was a Software problem that will be reported to Sony AND the Developer. So how did you conclude it had "nothing" to do with the Software?

You've received this specific message before telling you there was a software problem and somehow found it was NOT the software? How did you find that out?

Just had the same ''Crash Issue happen to me 3 times in a row, first after playing an online game and the2 other times after just quitting from the menu start screen

I was searching for an answer to this as well. It started happening to me after the new ps3 firmware update and the madden 1.02 patch. I'm running a 120 gb slim. I hate hearing the double beep.. I'm just waiting for it to die all together. Hopefully earthed EA or Sony fixes the issue soon.

While I can't say I've ever had that specific error message, these days it seems like a game that doesn't occasionally crash either console (ps3 or 360) is a rare thing.

As consoles take on more programming and complexity, it seems they introduce more opportunities for software to freak out the hardware. It happens, and EA and Madden are not the worst when it comes to frequency. I doubt that anyone who has played Skyrim or Fallout can say that it has never crashed their console.

My Ps3 system crashed again this morning when trying to quit Madden. This is the 4th time in a row that this has happened. Did anyone find a solution ?
