Most realistic game of all time, or most frustrating?
The title says it all. I'm trying to figure out if this is the most authentic game I've ever played because Corey Crawford allows garbage like this ALL THE FREAKING TIME. Either that or the game has some serious goalie issues. You be the judge.

Re: Most realistic game of all time, or most frustrating?
I would say yes.... it is the most realistic and yet the most frustrating game to date. The new skating has been the most challenging so far..... That and checking. I used to be able to just hammer someone into the boards ... but now with the new skating , I can't seem to be able to control my players well enough to time a good check into the boards. Using the new True Broadcast camera is great , but that as well affects how I'm skating and checking. I wouldn't change anything .... I just have to adjust. -

Ya thats pretty bad.. honestly though on default sliders ya i feel like stuff like that happens, but if you go and turn up the goalie reaction speed slider its tough to score and it really seems to make a difference.
I think this game is awesome, obviously there are a few things that happen that are "wierd" but i mean it is a video game. Best sports game i have ever played though hands downShaun Suttorp: Western State College 2007-10

Re: Most realistic game of all time, or most frustrating?
Definitely some frustration factor there. It seems they tried to get some more separation in the goalies, so the lower rated ones have more ups and downs (as they should) but sometimes they can just be flat out terrible.
Playing with a lower rated goalie can be really tough. We randomly generated rosters for our online GM and I got an 80 rated backup goalie.Go Sabres!Comment

Re: Most realistic game of all time, or most frustrating?
I took my time yesterday adjusting my sliders. I would change a few things, then play a game, change a few, then play a game, I think I finally got the game tuned right where I want it.
Except for the lack of penalties, and slightly lower shot and hit totals then I would prefer in some games, I can honestly say that last night I think I had some of the best (and most realistic) hockey video games I have ever played in my life!
I literally had to force myself to turn the game off late last night

Love this game! One of the most real sports video games I have ever played. I just hope it keeps getting better.
A lot of the arcade style play is no longer effective. Now the player will have to play smarter if he/she want to winPittsburgh the "City of Champions"Comment

Re: Most realistic game of all time, or most frustrating?
I think it is a fun game. Realistic....I am not sure about. So often I have players just staring at the puck but not moving, while the cpu skates around them for it. Or my defenders allow the skater to just come all the way up the ice and take a shot.
I guess I have to look at the strategies. I just don't understand why I have to have stupid AI on my side while the CPU plays, what looks like, an actual game of hockey.Comment

I'm sure there's bound to be a few wth's here and there. But overall yeah...I'm enjoying the heck outta having to adjust to how different the game plays.1969 NFL ChampionsComment

Re: Most realistic game of all time, or most frustrating?
There are aspects that are driving me to irritation.
1) Even after the latest tuners and updates, my goalie still loves to pull off the near post and allow easy short-side goals. It's so frustrating, because the puck carrier has NOWHERE to go, and no pass to make, but my goalie continues to pull off the post and allow short side goals in from bad angles.
2) Passing. I'm really tired of passes not going where I'm directing. I've had games lost because I'm telling the game to clearly pass in one direction, and the game does some wonky pass that's completely off the mark, which leads to a turn over.
3) Defensive reactions. I'm tired of seeing my defensemen watch a dump-in. I'm constantly needing to take control of them, turn around, and tell them to hustle because a winger is crashing down on them. If I leave the defensemen alone, the wingers easy pick up the puck and are allowed to circle around and score on the short side (see #1).
4) The AI. They still are too perfect, the passes are still tic-tac-toe, and pressing them is ridiculous. They typically get caught in an endless back and forth passing loop, or they move the puck with instant precision.
5) The Vision button is gone, replaced with backwards skating? This was, IMO, a terrible mistake. I loved the vision button. From what I understand, the button is supposed to do both, but that NEVER happens. I always get some foolish angle that causes me to be in a poor position.
Many of these issues are old issues that have been around for too long. I'm already beyond the honeymoon stage of NHL 13, and I'm looking at FIFA 13.Last edited by Broncos86; 09-14-2012, 04:32 PM.Comment

Re: Most realistic game of all time, or most frustrating?
I agree with all of these. Especially 3 and 5. I used to use the Vision button to help keep my shoulders lined up for a slap shot. Now it does things seemingly randomly, most of the time putting my skater in the most awkward position. I also hate just how stupid my AI defenders are. Most of the goals I give up are because of unnatural passiveness of my defenders. Letting the CPU get the puck after coming from 10 yards away, when all they had to do was move a few feet. Letting the cpu take shots that could have been avoided if the tried a poke check. There are aspects that are driving me to irritation.

Re: Most realistic game of all time, or most frustrating?
Just keep it simple and take lots of shots from the high percentage scoring areas on the ice.

Don't try to over-deke or over-pass this year. Simple shots from good areas will go in often enough to win games.Comment

The vision button still works to hone in accuracy, but you must begin your shot, then hold the left trigger after you wind back for the shot.I agree with all of these. Especially 3 and 5. .
#1 the CPU seems to know this is a money goal for them and still shoots them all the time, sure instead of them scoring 90% of the time its down to 50% but that is still way too many times.
#4 I agree, their passing is such BS, i turn their passing slider way down for accurcy and they still pass at over 80% every game, how is that even possible?Comment

Re: Most realistic game of all time, or most frustrating?
It is pretty much essential to use the "last man back" button (hold down the player change button for a moment) to take control of the last D as soon as the CPU is clearing their zone. It is even worse if you have slow d men on the ice.3) Defensive reactions. I'm tired of seeing my defensemen watch a dump-in. It kind of takes a lot out of the game because you can't be involved in the neutral zone anymore trying to trap the CPU.
I hate that I can get so many scoring chances off the CPU this way too, even when they have their fast defenders out there.Last edited by kerosene31; 09-14-2012, 09:10 PM.Go Sabres!Comment
