Does the CPU call up players to cover for injuries in BAP?

Because I can't think of any other reason why Anton Stralman is playing as a winger on my offline BAP. I'm playing as a Ranger, and the team has been hit with a few injuries early in the season, and instead of calling guys up from the AHL, it seems the CPU is content on sticking forwards on defense and defenseman in forward roles, is anyone else experiencing this at all, or am I just going crazy?
