Were the early 2000's the worst time for Basbeall video games?

I have always thought so. It was a weird time for Baseball video games. It seemed as if developers didn't really know what direction to go with the games.

In my opinion there weren't any really good Baseball games from 2001 - 2004. MVP was good but didn't really nail it until MVP 2005. Sony and 989's MLB games hit a rough patch with the first couple of their PS2 games, the games didn't start to get good until MLB 2006 and MLB 06 The Show. All Star Baseball was pretty good for the N64 but once the N64 died and the series moved on to the PS2 and Gamecube the quality of the series seemed to take a hit.

In the early to mid 90's I enjoyed Sega's World Series Baseball, RBI Baseball, and even EA's early Triple Play Gold games. Then in the late 90's developers were eager to explore with the beginning of Baseball games with polygons. I enjoyed Sega's World Series Baseball for the Saturn, Frank Thomas' Big Hurt Baseball, Acclaim's All Star Baseball (N64) and of course EA's successful Triple Play Baseball.

But then came the early 2000's and it seemed as if all the turds just started popping out of developers. So much so that I just started to ignore Baseball video games all together. Even Sega's own World Series Baseball games for their new Dreamcast were taking a hit in quality.

Thankfully though, thing turned around in the late 90's with MVP 05, 06, 07 and Sony's new The Show series.

Agree or Disagree? The early 2000's were bad years for Baseball video games.

High Heat...from 2000-2003 while ugly as sin was a great game of baseball....at least from the point of manage only mode.

If High Heats depth combined with The Show You would have the greatest baseball game of all time

High Heat got me back into baseball video games. Before that the most recent game I'd played was Griffey Jr.'s Winning Run on SNES. I never got into the Triple Play games.

High Heat on the PC (98-2004) saved baseball gaming.

Also, Interplay Baseball 2000 on the PS One was a masterpiece at the time. Superb gameplay and crowd audio.

I also had fun playing the all star baseball series the only thing that kinda bothered me was in all star baseball 2005 i could never pass the a leaping alou and preston's leap of faith this week in baseball challenges.

All Star Baseball 2004 on Xbox was so much fun for me to play. Wildly deep game for it's time. Expansion mode, importable Legends players, deep franchise, solid pitcher/batter interface.

All Star Baseball was great. Would love to see the ability to create a team from the ground up like you did in All Star Baseball. High Heat was nice from a managing standpoint.

I also agree about All Star baseball. I believe the most fun we had was with ASB 2002.

I remember though it all ended when I got ASB and MVP 04 and ASB couldn't even compete. I was pretty sad.

One thing I'd love to see is the ability to create stadiums again. Why is this never possible anymore?

I got into baseball gaming with WS '95 on the Genesis and it basicly ruined other video gaming for me. Ill throw in some COD occasionaley but its mostly been baseball since. And the original post was right, it was a tough period. I did like the second year of VR baseball, but that was it till HH got really good. I thought HH, at least on the consoles hit its stride the last 2 years it was on. And on just pure game play I think it could hold its own with The Show. And yes the graphics were rough but I thought near the end they got a little underrated. I remember being so pumped up when WS came out on the Dreamcast. Alright! Its the direct descendent from this great game, its got to be great! And it was not.

                        Totally agree on both points.

PC versoin of High Heat goes right up there with Earl Weaver for biggest impact to the baseball gaming world, ever, imo.

110% disagree. The High Heat series was one of the best playing baseball games of all time.

Even without High Heat's depth (though I would still love to see the combination), the Show is STILL the best baseball game of all-time in my opinion.

The early 2000's did stink, besides slugfest... Slugfest was the only fun baseball game series during then if you just wanted to have fun
