playing 2k finally showed me why domestic abuse victims stay with their spouse

If you're a sim player and real basketball fan and try to play fair, this game will punish you. I play online everyday with teams like the wiz and nets....everyday i play guys that pick star teams and go NBA street on me , i hate these games but yet i keep coming back for more....for the most part I'm a winner (record: 110-45) but I want to be good enough to beat the exploit abusers with the great records. I get so close but never pull those games out.

I'm basically like a dope addict, its like I'm searching for something that i cant get. I want to master this game so bad, and do it the right way with skill and I.Q but in reality I cant. Us real hoop fans get abused by 2k sports, but yet we keep coming back for more.

just wanted too vent ....ps how do you turn off auto double team with the nets, i literally tried everything...i want to snap the game in half because of it

I mentioned this in another thread, but I truly think that one of the biggest reasons for this this year is how the signature skills translate into an online game. I'm in the same boat as you - I play exclusively with Washington and New Orleans and have a solid record, but there are times where I truly feel the outcome of the game is just taken out of your hands regardless of skill level.

For example, if you're playing against Boston, Paul Pierce will become unstoppable in a close game in the fourth. Same with Melo if you're playing New York or Durant if you're playing OKC. Guys can just smash on the turbo, run around in a circle, and pull up for a contested J and, no matter what kind of defense you play it's going in nine times out of ten because those guys are "clutch" and "closers".

Overall though, the game is great, and the better player wins MOST of the time...you just have to deal with the arcadeyness of the online game if you're going to play quick match. It is what it is, and it can be INCREDIBLY annoying. But yeah, you just keep playing lol

Online gaming against randoms in 2k13 = fail.

This game is not cut out to be played online unless you're going against friends or people you know to play sim. It's a damn scrub fest out there.

Haven't played online once this year, nor will I. Finally learnt my lesson.

The AI set to ROOKIE has more skill than the average player online. Not to mention plays more realistic.

                  Not in my experience.

Can't remember the last time I saw the AI running around in circles with turbo held down, pump faking 50 times, and spamming the steal button......

How about the self alley oop?
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Stand near the "self-alley ooper" with your defender and use a combo of the steal button and right stick D. I have had the dunk go through once on me.

                          This.

I dont understand why people play quick matches and bitch about the unrealistic NBA experience.

Again you're on a site with sim ballers, play them and stop bitching and complaining.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot KC.

All-Star- I appreciate your defensive help posts but people have a right to complain that the only online ranked version of 2k can often turn into an And-1 game(I thought that is what MyPlayer quick matches were for). Maybe you should be more pissed at 2k for making the game like it is for online play then people would not be complaining. Basic basketball principles should matter in an nba simulation and that is not always the case in quick match. Something as simple as ranked lobbies should atleast exist don't you agree?

It's not the fault of the game though. The game gives us all the tools necessary to play a proper simulation. Everything the game offers is what we would see in a real basketball game. The problem, is the players, and it will ALWAYS be the players.

You'll never be able to play a sim game, if 80 plus % of people online play like headless chickens on speed. Only hardcore ball fans and sim heads play realistic, and we're in the minority I suspect. We all know the game flaws and exploits, yet we CHOOSE to not abuse them because we want a proper simulation - you've got to understand, most people online could care less about that 'crap'. All they want is to win, and get higher on leaderboards, no matter what it takes. There's no virtual sportsmanship. Just cheese to get the precious win. It will never change so long as internet gaming exists.

Just stick to playing people on your friends list, or chaps from here. (That said, i've even played a few from here over the years that have been about as sim as NBA Jam)
