Re: Seb170455' Montreal Canadiens: "Les Habitants" will rise again

Breaking news on the GM position in Montreal.

After Bettman was finished with the NHL after his terrible preformance in the CBA negotiations this year, the NHL had to search for a replacement. They found one and we were all surprised. GM Bergevin of the Montreal Canadiens was the new boss of the NHL.

The Habs had to find a new General Manager pronto. They had little time before the season would start, but they found one. Montreal presented their new GM this morning. It was another great suprise. Molson had another rookie on the GM chair. The new GM of the Montreal Canadiens is the dutchman Sebastiaan Jansen. He speaks English, French, German and Dutch. He is not the perfect candidate, but we will give him the benefit of the doubt.

The first act of the new GM was hiring a new coach, because Therrien choose to let himself go. He didn't approve of the hiring of Jansen. Jansen did a swift job, and hired Benoit Groulx as the new head coach.

We will see what will become of the Habs in the next few seasons.

Preview NHL 2012; The Montreal Canadiens.

In this article we will take a look at the Montreal Canadiens and make a prediction for the coming hockey season of the Habs. The new season is upon us and the Montreal Canadiens do need to make a new start. In the off season there were many changes in Montreal. One GM came and left again. A new GM was installed. GM Sebastiaan Jansen is a long shot. The hockey world was shocked and now Jansen has to fight off the critics. He had to get a new headcoach because the old one left. Groulx was appointed as new headcoach. The team also changed drastically and has to be better. Montreal will not accept another bad season. Are these high expectations realistic? Let's make a overview of the Montreal team.

Goaltending;

Goaltending is not the problem in Montreal. The Habs got Price who is one of the top goaltenders in the league and will probably turn into a superstar goaltender in the future. Their backup is Budaj and in the few games he will play, he will do allright. Montreal has no real good young goaltenders in AHL or minors. This has to be addressed by Jansen.

Defense;

The Habs have enough defense, but not all the right guys are ready yet. Markov and Gorges are top defenders who are veterans. Subban is one of the most promising defenders in the NHL. Emelin is a hard hitting defender who will be a great partner for a future offensive defenseman. The rest of the pack is rather shaky. Kaberle could be of use in the PP, but has no real defensive qualities. Campoli, Diaz and Weber will always be 6th man. The future of the Montreal defense does look good. Subban and Emelin will be there. In the minors Tinordi, Thrower and Beaulieu look like they will become good NHL players.

Center;

Montreal have 3 good centers. Plekanec who has to come back from a very bad season, Desharnais who still has to battle many critics for his right to play in the NHL, and Eller who is a promising 2 way center. On the 4th line will probably be White who is a grinder and a usefull young addition. Gomez is a big contract who has been disappointing. Nokelainen will not be in mix. In the minors and AHL the Habs have 2 very good and talented players, 2 first rounders. In AHL plays LeBlanc and he will be a solid addition to the Habs. 3rd overall pick Galchenyuk has stardom in his grasp. Montreal hopes he will take it.

Right wing;

Montreal has only 3 right wingers that will compete on NHL level. Captain Gionta hopes he will be back from a big injury. Bourque has to convince everybody that he still has potential. Armstrong is also a player that has shown already that he is a good NHL player, but has to become a steady contributor. In the minors there are 2 great talents. Collberg is a sniper that will get to the NHL. Gallagher is trying to become the new Gionta.

Left wing;

On the left wing the Habs have pelnty of usefull players. Cole and Pacioretty had real good seasons last year and hope to continue their great play. Moen hopes to be fit again and together with Prust they will be the sandpaper of Montreal. In the minors Bozon is a talented playmaker that probably will make it in the NHL.

Plenty of good players on the roster and in the system of the Montreal Canadiens. Many of those players still have to prove that they are good players. GM Jansen has enough players that he would want to trade or get rid of (Gomez, Kaberle, Campoli, Nokelainen, Weber). If the right trades are made and Price will be super the whole season, Montreal should make the playoffs and maybe be the surpirse of the season. We will see.

Re: Seb170455' Montreal Canadiens: "Les Habitants" will rise again

Montreal Canadiens trades and free agency signings:

MTL: acquired 2013 - 3rd round draft pick (BOS)
BOS: got Defenseman C.Campoli

We wanted to make room and have more capspace. Campoli was expendable and we got a good draft pick.

MTL: acquired 2013 - 5th round draft pick (COL)
COL: acquired Center P.Nokelainen

Same reason as Campoli.

Free agent signing: RW Joel Armia (58, PLY, 3,5 star)

He is a good optin for the future. I think he will be a steal.

Free agent signing: Nikolay Zherdev (74, SNP)

He'll be a fourth or third liner, we could use some scoring there and he still is fast.

Re: Seb170455' Montreal Canadiens: "Les Habitants" will rise again

GM Jansen recieved an email this morning.

"I wanted to welcome you to the Montreal Canadiens organization as our new GM for the next 3 years.

It's all about winning, and I'm setting your initial target as 44 wins this season.

Keep me happy, you keep your job. Now go out there and make me happy!"
