Auburn Football Under Investigation

Losing games is not the only problem Gene Chizik has faced this fall at Auburn. The embattled coach of the Tigers also is overseeing a program being investigated by the NCAA, Yahoo! Sports has learned.


According to multiple sources, NCAA investigators have been working for weeks on potential improprieties involving Auburn recruits, players, coaches, representatives of the school's athletic interests and third parties. Assistant coaches Trooper Taylor and Curtis Luper have been scrutinized by the NCAA, sources said. Taylor is the assistant head coach and wide receivers coach, while Luper coaches running backs and is the recruiting coordinator.



Both Taylor and Luper were taken off the road recruiting several weeks ago amid the NCAA probe, sources said. Taylor was a finalist this season for national Assistant Coach of the Year honors from the American Football Coaches Association.

Sources told Yahoo! Sports in September that the NCAA has been investigating the recruitment of 2012 Auburn signee Jovon Robinson, whose Memphis Wooddale High School academic transcript was found to be forged and was subsequently declared ineligible in August to play this year at the school. The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported in August that a guidance counselor at Wooddale admitted creating a fraudulent transcript and resigned.

So is this something new non-Cam related? I heard this earlier today, but they just mentioned it had to do with recruiting. I don't know that I have seen a program self destruct so completely and quickly as this...

Assistant coaches Trooper Taylor and Curtis Luper were taken off the road earlier this fall in regard to a specific, potential violation that is secondary in nature. The potential violation relates to an on-campus interaction that was prohibited at the time it occurred, but now would be permissible due to recent changes to NCAA regulations. The violation that took Taylor and Luper off the road is not related to the allegations of grade-changing in Memphis.

And then this was confirmed today as well...

AuburnSports.com has learned that the NCAA's inquiry into the secondary violation referenced above also has included interviews with players currently at Alabama who were recruited by Auburn. It's unclear if the inquiry initiated with information provided by those Alabama players or if instead they were approached by the NCAA through the course of a pre-existing investigation.

Auburn sources are adamant that the school hasn't received a Preliminary Letter of Inquiry from the NCAA.

Basically, this is the same crap that we all knew about when Trooper and Luper were taken off the road and is a SECONDARY violation at best. No big deal.

It is incredibly ironic though that this story would drop in Yahoo Sports lap the week of the Iron Bowl and right before Auburn is about to hire a new coach. Oh however would that happen?

I'd expect the same end result as bammer's coaches getting Page to transfer and protect his eligibility, Julio's 14 custom made suits his junior year of College, and the parade of young african american football players who apparently like to "hang out" at a Custom Men's Clothing shop. Which is to say..nothing.


It does help make it easier to dump Gene on Sunday or Monday though.
