Actually, ratings just need to work like they should.

A dominant LT should dominate most games, unless they have a off day against a elite DE.

A Von Miller/Clay Mathews should dominate more in a game than now.

Ball Hawk, Speedy Gonzalez, Quick Release, that is what DPP is for. They need to develop DPP better and make the AI CPU all around better.

No need to cute and paste from the other game, just get Madden better at playing real NFL football.

And the Packers aren't just a passing team this year, they are running as much as they are passing the ball lately. I'd like that more open ended, depending on the user. I'd like to set it up the way I want my team to play. More control that way instead of labeling a team a certain way.

Your right They do need to get the ratings to play like they should

I Love Madden but things Like ratings fustrate me at times


Also I put Pass Balanced because Their Really a Passing team but do mix in the run when needed

I think Speed is the only thing they got right (Not Really sure lol)

They still have zig zag running too.

Seriously, people have this perception of the Packers as a passing team.

Last game, rushing 29 times, passing 27

Week 9, rushing 39 times, passing 30.

That's not where I want to take the thread, but my point was, it's better to have whatever control you want for your team instead of dictating what the game gives you.

OP that is still a rating system. just covered up. there are still ratings behind the stars on apf. i think ratings work when the gameplay is right. blocking/engagement needs to be fixed first. then fix the zigzag running. then separating the speed and acc ratings(right now, with speed being equal the higher acc player will have a higher top speed), and spreading out the ratings(use the whole spectrum 0-100). when those things have been done the game will play a lot closer to real life.

Whoa whoa, tap them brakes there. Have you tried to block Clay Matthews? It's near impossible. If anything, Clay Matthews needs to be sedated a bit.

With the addition of schemes and player types, I feel like ratings are/should be more important than ever.

For example, if you want to run a predominantly zone-style running game based on the stretch play, certain OL ratings should be way more important than others, and knowing what those skill sets are should be important to the player.

As for whether or not the ratings are indicative enough of how the player plays in game.....

I appreciate the time you took to think of this and write it out, but we can't just do a three star system with certain players have traits.

There are more than a few different levels of players and this needs to represented. I think OVR rating should be removed or hidden but you need to see the individual stat categories.

Another misinformed person. APF had ratings , they were just hidden from the user. I don't care that the back of the box said there were no more ratings... they were just no longer made visible. Ratings are simply a value input so the computer can help determine an outcome.

When you create a player in APF 2k8, they assign generic ratings for him under the hood, and when you pick abilities, you are simply giving a boost to specific ratings.

Have you ever played Fallout 3 or New Vegas? Think of it like Tag skills. They have fancy flavor text, but several are simply point boosts.

Roadman is absolutely right. Madden needs to make them matter more. Slider have an impact on this, and in Madden 12 with my settings I have several players/positions working much better than with the default settings. However, the core game play needs to improve as well.

For example, having 99 power moves should mean you instantly shed the block of an offensive lineman or not. It should mean you can push him on his butt, or back into the QBs face as you collapse the pocket. There are many real life examples of this. As a 49er fan, one of my favorite is this:

Another thing I did in Madden 12 was to edit all of the Zone Coverage ratings of linebackers in the game. I talk about it in my blog, but basically, in the default roster, the best ZCV Linebacker is Urlacher with only 85 ZCV. I went in and raised everyone by 10 points. Well, I stopped with players who only have like 60 ZCV, but anyone who had like 65 and higher I adjusted. That changed the game play a LOT for me. Suddenly, most for the user and computer cover a lot better. There aren't giant gaping holes all the time over the middle of the field. Not everyone is great, there are stars with terrible ZCV ratings, but there are finally real coverage linebackers in my game.

There are so many things that I can do with the game on the user end to improve my experience, it kind of makes me sick that EA doesn't do more on their end to give us a more complete/realistic game... or at least settings for us hard core players to toggle on/off. The fact that I had to spend so much of my free time over the last year testing and playing with settings and options and ratings... experimenting in an effort to make the game more enjoyable instead of just being able to trust EA to do their job so I don't have to do it for them.

Sorry but having to play him out of position and on a completely different side just to get him some sacks at 98 ovr with 99 Power Moves 97 finesse is unacceptable.

That long list you supplied, though, like ballhawk, has been in the game for a few years as DPP. They just need to have the count more as well.

Do you have Madden 12 or 13? Just curious.
