What can we do to prevent 2k from taking steps back?

I've heard the saying "one step forward, two steps back" from many of you...

And it's true! .2k has inexplicably removed things from the game that we loved on a regular basis. .2k11 to 2k12 had to be the biggest case if this...so many of the great gameplay aspects were taken from the game..

So what can we do to prevent this? Do we need a "what not to change" thread to go along with the wishlist thread?

    What do you guys think?

That "What not to take out" thread ssounds like a good idea
The mods said they're going to start those threads though so we have to wait for them

Nothing we can do, until EA Sports threatens to come out with something. Until then, 2k Sports will continue to put out what they put out.

I think a thead like that would be useful not only to the dev's but to those who have access to the dev's to go one place to see things that have been removed that the community want's replaced.

Also Note to Dev's wishlist threads etc need to be started NOW. Same with this thread were discussing. For both companies decisions are either being made or have just been made or are planning to be made. A wishlist in march is WAY too late.

People help contribute to stuff being removed from the game by complaining all the time so there's really no point

Stop asking for two steps forward and they won't trip so much

they dont need to step forward, they just need to fix up the steps that were made already in this game.

2k needs to just stay with what they have already, twitch a few areas that need twitchin and add more cool animations on top of IT.

No more steps, just more animations

                Sadly, that doesn't sell games.

Re: What can we do to prevent 2k from taking steps back?

The presentation took TWO BIG STEPS BACK! I want that little swipe back where the two players show up at the lower left hand side corner (next key game commercial). I was hoping they would take it further this year by advertising other 2k games....but alas....Jay Z then all of the sudden gold gold errywhere....

Jeez bring back the TV style graphics and keep the gold in the menus only (which I actually like)

Gameplay wise all I want is 2k11's defense! Scores where more balanced when playing against human opponents on 12 minute quarters! I know we didn't score over 40 points in the first quarter and the games would end usually around the 80's or 90's.....

Re: What can we do to prevent 2k from taking steps back?

Put their focus and attention into Association mode, their most important mode that they have and are going to lose a lot of their consumers if EA Sports gets their act together and puts out a game with Association mode being the lead of the game. I think they took out the D-League this year to see if they could make it editable for us like we've been screaming about of the past 2 years, so seeing them introduce that back into the game next year with it being editable for users and quite possibly a way for them to make the D-League rosters the actual rosters and not generics. Put a head coaches and assistant coaches pool together instead of us having to deal with created generic ones in Association. They already have the other coaches on the game disc with their information, if your not going to allow us the opportunity to have access to everything on the disc, then why put on there to begin with? Continue to improve Online Associations and continue to give users (owners at least) more complete control over their Online Associations and also allow customized rosters to be played.

I agree with everything but the defense. It is almost perfect. Off course I'am not talking about quick ranked games but Superstar/hall of fame sim. I personally get tons of low scoring games.

Not a big fan of the gold/speakers everywhere thing either. Love the pregame stadium fly bys though and I thought it was pretty cool for 2k to put those celebs to use and put them in the crowd at various stadiums. They should let Jay-Z handle music and getting the tough to sign legends(Barkley,Pippen, etc) and leave the screen overlays and the rest of the presentation to more traditional Sports TV broadcast experts.

As far as what 2k needs to do to not take two steps they need to:
                        1. Keep Rob Jones and Mike Wang on staff

                        2. Only take advice from people if it correlates to the vision they want to establish with internal development: These games get into trouble eventually when they try to please everyone. They end up alienating everyone to some degree. If you are going to be a sim just be a sim and design your game around true basketball physics/principles. There is a give and take to everything you do in sports. Every tactic has a consequence and if that is not represented in your sport that's a problem imo.

                        3. Passing-Either speed up passes or slow down defender reaction times and/or add a delay when switching between guys on d as the ball is passed. Zones plus lethargic passing(faster than 2k12-not by much) equals a defense that is better than it should be in game. Playing passing lanes is about anticipation not reaction and with passing slow it can become way too easy for defenses to sit back in zones and react rather than have to anticipate and suffer risk of an open shot.(plays into point #2)

                        4. Concentrate on getting basketball minds like Hubie Brown, Larry Brown, Phil Jackson, Adelman, etc on board and involved to help with a.i. and strategy and stop wasting time chasing Hollywood/Music celebs. 2k is part of our culture now like Madden and that is not needed.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

                          +1
Has been a problem for years! Passing is NOT good this year again.

Also bring back the satisfying shooting of 7/8, the drive animation variety of 11, the highlight reel of 11 and 12, player introductions of 10 years ago.

edit: let us save and download sliders!!

Passing took a turn for the absolute worse from 2k11 to 2k12...no idea what they were trying to accomplish....sure it needed some work before, but the overhaul they did was a bad move all around...the way the recipient of the pass reacts is just frustrating...

I have to stay. I love what this thread is looking for. But I feel to keep the creative flow of improvement. Things do have to change. For instances controls. If you told me they were going to do what they did this year. I would be totally against it. I love the shotstick and iso motion in the left stick. But after a few games now. I have to say its probably been the biggest improvment in the game. Just how many moves you can in the post and dribble moves. It was a great change and well need one.
