Has anybody EVER played 1-3-1 in the NBA?

Kind of curious about this: has any real-life NBA team ever played a 1-3-1 zone?

I don't mean regularly...I mean EVER, even for a single possession. I know I've never seen it. I know Google searches for 'NBA' and '1-3-1' only returns stuff about video games; same with YouTube. I can't find a single coach, player, commentator, or reporter to EVER reference the 1-3-1 ever being played in the NBA...absolutely nothing.

So I'm asking here: can anybody find any evidence that any NBA team has ever played 1-3-1, even for a single possession? I would seriously doubt it, since its weakness is the one shot every NBA team would gladly shoot everytime down the court: the open corner 3. But I'm curious if I can be proven wrong.

Certainly not that I can recall...I've seen the 1-2-2 a few times, especially from the Jazz in the mid-2000s, but never the actual 1-3-1 as used in this game.

I would like to know this. I dont think it really matters b/c its not going to stop these fake mufs from using it. They play it "every game", "all game" and think that sh is sim........ Now i play straight up man 90% and will play 2-3 but only if they r spamming the paint or use 1-3-1 but most of the time theres no need b/c what I've learned to do with the man stops everything, but when i start giving it to em in that 2-3 I give them a message telling them if they stop using this fake as 1-3-1 zone sh, I'll stop using the 2-3 so we can have a good competitive game instead of a sloppy as turbo, turbo, turbo one.

In other words if U dnt see me cheating or abusing the games weaknesses then play me straight up but it seems like/am I the only muf who plays the game straight up and still give it to these fake 1-3-1 sim heads who will still try to justify it when they know it abuses the games weaknesses such as slow passes....passing period. They will also use the "I only use it against the cheesers" line LOL. Keep it real ppl

This is a good question though b/c it seems like we would c alot more 3 sec calls if this was played in the NBA.

Using the zone isn't cheese not even close, its part of 2k. Your mission online I hope is to win, which means using the best method. Man defense is broken and even worst online and completely useless against good players.

Zone is the way to go in 2k13, as the old saying goes, "don't hate the player hate the game" I use 1-3-1, very good at it and tweaked it to the point where I don't give up many 3s or drives.

Unless the player is doing the euro cheese for 3s , I see nothing wrong with a drive a dunk strategy. If someone play man against me online, I will go to the drive and dunk and win.

I get what you saying but at the end of the day you play to win.

No I have never seen it and it shouldn't be in 2K. Box and 1, 2-3, and 3-2 are the only zones I have seen in the NBA

I think I saw it on one of the bballbreakdown videos by Coach Nick on youtube. Can't remember which one though.

raptors played it this season in one of their recent games i think it was against brooklyn but im not too sure. i rmbr seeing it though and it worked very well for them. its effective when the other team is shooting poorly from the outside in which the nets were shooting 1 for 9 from 3 in the first half.

Its quite rare to see in the nba but in college ball some teams swear by it. Michigan coach John Beilein uses a modified version of the 1-3-1 Zone which he has had much success at West Virginia and Michigan despite weak recuiting classes.
Maybe he should coach the lakers?

Nope, I really wish they would add some other zones like 1-2-2 or Box and 1. It would make playing defense more intense, for instance, you are playing the Knicks, and Melo is going off, you cn try a boz and 1 to try to stop him. 2K, I've seen tons of teams run a 1-2-2 and barely ever if at all run a 1-3-1. Add some other zones, please.

2k just needs to remove the 1-3-1...

Two reasons : 1) It isn't played in the NBA. 2) The way it is programmed in this game is BROKEN and glitchy.

I would suggest taking it out and giving us a Box and 1 type of option instead. more realistic and if programmed correctly a better option for players to defend superstar-centric teams and gamers.

NBA teams don't play 1-3-1 zone. Teams rarely play zones anyway. I've said before that 2k should just remove 1-3-1 zone.

This is the problem and why it should be removed. Realistically you are going to give up something. Whether it's the 3, layups inside, or offensive rebounds. You shouldn't be able to defend everything playing a zone. The 1-3-1 is overpowered (especially with the Heat) and should be removed.
