          Game Notes
In the season opener for Dallas and the Lakers, Dallas travels west to play in the staples center once again. With the fiasco that was Dwight Howard last year, and Mavs owner Mark Cuban putting most of his marbles in luring Howard and Chris Paul to Dallas he was left with a roster that looked like a D league team and Dirk Nowitzki. But we all know Mark Cuban and he always puts together a team that will someway or another be in the talk to make the playoffs, and he did just that with the signing of vets such as Chris Kaman, Elton Brand, and bringing in Darren Collison to play the point after Jason Kidd left to New York. With both teams completely overhauled this will be a test for both teams as chemistry and coordination will have to be a key part in either team obtaining the victory on opening night.

            Recap

Going into a much anticipated opening night for Dallas and the Lakers, this game would prove to be a great one. The Mavs started off red hot taking a 10 point lead in the first quarter but that would quickly diminish as the Lakers went on a 12-4 run to end the quarter. The second half would be a completley different story as the Lakers toughened up on defense and forced multiple turnovers in the 3rd which lead to points almost every time. The Mavs hung in there until the 4th when it turned into the Dirk vs Kobe show. Nowtizki came to life in the 4th after struggling throughout the game scoring 15 points in the 4th, but all that would be undone by Kobe scoring a game high 31 points on 14-26 shooting to go along with his 7 assists. In the end it was the Lakers who would take the game 114-104 and move to 1-0. Next up the Mavs have the young and talented Utah Jazz on the road.

              Weekly Recap

The big news coming out of the first week of the regular season is injuries already plaguing teams. Some notable injuries; Stephan Curry 1-2 weeks, Josh Smith 1-2 weeks, Carmelo Anthony 2-4 weeks, Kemba Walker 1-2 weeks, Anthony Davis 1-2 weeks, and Brandon Jennings 4-6 weeks.

As expected the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs start off hot and win their first 3 games each. In the Power Rankings of November 4th, biggest jumpers Washington Wizards and Charlotte Bobcats both jump 12 spots to 16 and 17 respectively.

The Mavs are off to a shaky start after a hearbreaker to the Lakers in opening night. Losing the next game to the Jazz but redeeming them selfs against the Bobcats. Dirk if off to a hot start averaging 20.7 ppg to go along with 11.0 rpg. Also off to a hot start is the newest scoring threat O.J. Mayo who is averaging a career high 20.3 ppg through the first 3 games.

                Game Notes
Obviously there are so many story lines coming into this game, With Dallas letting Tyson Chandler leave to secure a long term contract as well as Jason Kidd there will be a lot of emotions running in Madison Square Garden, as always with Chandler and Kidd being apart of the championship run two years ago. With Dallas riding a 3 game winning streak they are taking on a Melo'less Knicks team that has struggled to find any offense with him off the court. They are only averaging 86 points per game and only hitting 21% of their threes. Meanwhile they run into a streaking and red hot Dallas team where Dirk is averaging 25 a game and the Mavs are shooting lights out from beyond the arc at an astounding 46%.

                  Recap
With emotions running high, the struggling Knicks came out on fire. Tyson Chandler started the game 6-6 and bringing down 5 rebounds in the first quarter. Dallas weathered the storm and hung in there scoring 27 of their own, as Dirk Nowitzki was poised to have a huge game. In a game where Dallas was very sloppy and had a season high 22 turnovers they managed to get to the line quite a bit. Going into the 3rd Iman Shumpert had channeled his inner Melo and was basically unguardable. But just like the first half, Dallas weathered the hail mary of shots from the Knicks, who threw up a whopping 101 shots in the game. Going into the 4th, the Mavs took an early 7 point lead which would be relinquished by a couple 3s by J.R. Smith who was huge off the bench. But he would be matched by Ronnie buckets, as Beaubois was on fire in the 4th himself, and as always Nowitzki hit almost every shot he threw up tonight. But the game came down to the wire, with 24 seconds left the Mavs up 2 O.J. Mayo gets hit on a screen and Brewer gets wide open as Kidd hits him for the three to take a 1 point lead with 3.3 seconds left, who would the Mavs turn to? None other than Dirk Nowitzki, who caught the inbounds at the top of the 3 point line, drove to his left, and hit a fade away with Amar'e draped all over him. The Mavs would take the game 107-106 in dramatic fashion.

                    Dallas Recap

Going into week 2 on the regular season the Mavs sat at 1-2 with a 4 game in 7 night stretch including 2 home games vs a young Portland team and a struggling Toronto team. The Mavs averaged 108 points over this stretch and extended their winning streak to 5 games. The wins come with Dirk scoring 30 or more points 3 of the last 4 games as well as chalking up 3 double doubles as well. The Mavs overall are starting to get into a groove, but its not all sunny in Dallas, word is Vince Carter is unhappy about his minutes as well as Dahntay Jones and Dominique Jones wanting bigger roles with the team. The Mavs may be looking to do a package deal to maybe aquire some younger talent to replace the aging Marion or Kaman in the near future. All 3 players are in the last year of their current contracts and are set to be free agents at the end of the year. We will keep you updated with any news involving these 3 players.

                    Around the NBA

This week was a big week for alot of teams starting out slow, as well as red hot. The Spurs retain the #1 power ranking while extending their win streak to 7. The big news in the West is that Russell Westbrook sprained his hand and has missed the last 3 games, and isnt set to return for atleast another week, meanwhile the Thunder have lost 2 out of their last 3 and slip in the power rankings to #22. The biggest jump this week is the Atlanta Hawks who jumped 22 spots to #5 followed by the Mavericks who jumped 14 spots to #6 following their 5 game win steak.

Although no trades have happened word on the street is that the Celtics are looking to move Barbosa, but the asking price may be to high. Also the Pistons and Austin Daye are at each others necks, which could spell doom for Daye's future in Detroit.

Dallas Travels to Cleveland for the first time this season to see the young and exciting Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters. Dallas is red hot and looking to continue its winning streak. The Cavs on the other hand are sitting at an even .500 record of 3-3 and are 1-1 at home. They are only scoring 98 points per game but Kyrie is having an mvp like season averaging 21 points per game to go along with his 7.2 assists and 1.5 steals per game. The key matchup here will be O.J. Mayo vs the young and talented scorer Dion Waiters whose scoring 15.2 points per game in this young season, and both players play solid perimeter defense, so it will be a battle for both players to get scoring.

                          Recap

Dallas traveling to Cleveland for the first time in the year, Without O.J. Mayo who strained his back in the win over the Pacers the night before, also lost the two games prior to the Pacer game at home by a combined 3 points. So the Mavs were looking to get back on a winning streak and they faced the dangerous Cavs.

The Cavs came out gunning in the first quarter and Alonzo Gee who hit 3 shots from beyond the arc looked to take the game over while Kyrie was struggling from the field. Along with Gee, Waiters caught fire early and was unguardable for much of the game. The Cavs scored 70 points by half to the Mavs 58, and also held a lead of 20 at one point during the 2nd quarter.

But the second half was a different story, Charlisle came out with a pressure ball man to man, and tried to deny waiters the ball. They forced a few turnovers and contested every shot. Charlisle was asked what the difference in the second half was; he responded; " Well, we contested alot of shots. We know they got scores out there on the court at all times, and if they are going to beat us they will have to do it with a hand in their face. Our defense stepped up big time when it counted and forced alot of bad shots, which leads to quick buckets for us."

The Mavs would hold the Cavs to 32 second half points on their road to a second win in a row. High scorer was Dirk Nowitzki who came away on the night with 33 points and willed his team to victory in the second half with O.J. Mayo on the sideline wishing he could lace up the shoes. Irving had a game high 12 dimes along with Varejaos game high 11 boards.

                            Dallas Recap

In what has been a somewhat trying week for the Mavs they managed to jump 1 spot in the power rankings and split their 4 games this week. Unfortunately they lost O.J. Mayo in the Pacer game for at least the rest of the month. Dirk is still hitting on all cylinders and the Mavs are still contending after overhauling most of the roster. The locker room on the other hand is getting quite restless, some of the vets like Vince Carter are wanting more minutes and a bigger role with the team. Owner Mark Cuban said he is already looking for options to send Carter and "more" to someone who can give him some minutes, Cuban would like to see if he can package a few Mavs for a mid first round pick, or a slid young talent with the aging players he has on the roster as is.

                            Around the NBA

Alot of big trade rumors are flying around now that the season is in full swing, some names like Caron Butler, Marcus Morris, and J.R. Smith are floating out there for some contenders to maybe make a trade to solidify a rotation or bring that scorer off the bench they need.

The Bucks get much needed good news, the doctors have cleared Monte Ellis to return to practice and should be playing starter minutes within a game or two.

The Atlanta Hawks lose 4 straight and drop to 3-5, and 21 spots on the power rankings, They look to bounce back when they play the last place team in the league, Orlando Magic followed by the Washington Wizards.

In the first time time these two teams meet, Dallas will be without its second leading scorer against one of the most high powered offenses in the league. Steph Curry leading his team into Dallas looking to get into contention and make the Warriors relevant again has a great supporting cast and the Warriors are at least 2 deep at every position. The Mavs will need to be at top level to hold off the Warriors in Dallas on Monday. The key matchup this game is Dirk who is on fire against another big man who can hold his own and doesn't get a lot of credit around the league, David Lee. Both will be banging and fighting for position all game, it will be a good matchup.

                              Recap

Looking to extend their winning streak to three games, the Mavs coming off of two fairly easy wins over Cleveland and Indiana, at home took on the Golden State Warriors. The Mavs and Warriors came out strong both shooting high percentage from the field and getting to the line. But the game would turn around quickly for the Golden State Warriors met the stingy and tough zone defense from the Mavs in the second quarter. The Mavs would hold the Warriors to 16 second quarter points as Dirk had his hand in keeping David Lee in foul trouble from the first quarter on, limiting him to only 22 minutes. In a game that would get completely out of hand in the 3rd quarter when the Mavs held a 24 point lead, it was the second unit for the Mavs who would finish the game with players like Derrick Fisher and Vince Carter getting 20+ minutes in the game. The Mavs would get the W easily at home with a 10 point win over the Warriors in a complete team effort.
