    gsize19's Simulation Sliders

Let me preface this by saying these sliders aren't going to be for everyone Though many loved them last year), but it produces the most accurate experience I have ever had in God knows how many years I have played this game (every year since NHLPA on Sega).

I have tried known reputable slider combo's for the game I play, they don't work and maybe others play the game like (from reputable contributers!!!! that I respect) me and look for a "True Feel" experience.

    RULES
    Skill: All Star
    Period: 9 minutes
    Offsides: Delayed
    Icing: On
    Injuries: On
    Penalties: 4 (Maxed)
    Post Whistle: Authentic
Penalty Scaling: 1 (Ridculous to have a full 2 minute PP when you play a lesser period lenghth, this does slow it down and adds maybe 10 seconds, and keeps in line with the game)
    Fighting: 2 (Maxed)
    Assistant Coach: Minimal
    CPU Trades: On
    Waivers: On
    Trade Offers: On
    Waiver Notifications: On

    GAMEPLAY
    General
    Tuner: 1.06
    CPU Aid: Hardcore
    Broken Stick: 3
Game Speed: 1 (anything over 2, you may as well be playing NHL HITZ, the game is TOO fast to be simulation. This is what sucks in Connected and Vs., EA has the game set way to fast with little change you can do. I know with 5 minute periods it has to play faster, but the game is TOO fast and unrealistic)
    Attribute Effects: 6 (Maxed)
Fatigue Effect: (Human) 6 (CPU) 6
Fatigue Recovery: (Human) 1 (CPU) 1
Injury Occurence: (Human) 5 (CPU) 5
Puck Control: (Human) 2 (CPU) 2
    Acceleration: (Human) 3 (CPU) 3

    AI
    Created Plays: Off (my preference)
AI Learning: 6 (Maxed) (Just the way it has to be, 0, 1 or 2, the CPU plays stupid and it isn't a challenging game. I like having to work for the win, and in the last few minutes, it is much more fun playing the perfect de to win the game rather the AI do stupid things)
CPU Difficulty Adjusts: 5 (Adjusts based on my play, like an NHL coach would do, if he sees you are doing something that works, he adjusts his teams pressure, if he lets it continue, he won't be a coach in the NHL long....just sayin)
    CPU Strategy Adjusts: 4 (Maxed)
    Human Strategy Adjusts: 3
    CPU F/O Difficulty: 3
    Fight Difficulty: 4
    CPU Penalties: 6
    CPU Teammate Penalties: 6

    Passing
    Pass Assist: 5
Manual Passing: Off (ON and the errant passes are ridiculous)
    Pass Speed: 2
    Saucer Pass: 2
Pass Accuracy: (Human) 2 (CPU) 2
Pass Reception Ease: (Human) 1 Cpu (1)
Pass Interceptions: (Human) 1 (Cpu) 1

    Shooting:
Shot Acc: (Human) 3 (CPU) 3
Shot Power (Human) 2 or 3 (CPU) 2 or 3
Slap Acc: (Human) 3 (CPU) 3
Slap Power: (Human) 3 (Cpu) 3
One Timer Acc: (Human) 3 (CPU) 3

    Checking
    Hitting Aggression: 2
Aggression: (Human) 5 (Cpu) 6 (maxed) (Anything under 6 for CPU and the cpu become passive, if you are good at moving the puck around like an NHL team, this needs to be at 6, otherwise the game is TOO easy!!!)
Hitting Power: (Human) 2 (CPU) 2 (Controls monster hits that should be penalties but are rarely called)
Stick Lift Effect: (Human) 4 (CPU) 5
    Poke Effect: (Human)3 (Cpu) 4

    Goalies
    Goalie passing: 1
Goalie cover puck: 6 (maxed) (Most goalies hold the puck and rarely move it, aaaaaah, seems more like an NHL game already)
Goalie Screen Effect (Human) 5 (CPU) 5
Goalie Reaction Speed: (Human) 3 (CPU) 3

    Visual (My preferences)
    camera: Ice
    Goalie Cam: High
    Shootout Cam: Medium
Auto Zoom: Auto (a must for a true sim player, manual shot aim and you can score every glitch shot at will....boooooooring)
    Camera Perpective: Alternate
    Score overlay: Auto
    Control Indicator: Off
    Fighting Instructions: Off
Puck Size: Authentic (I have a 65" so it looks great)
Puch Shadow: Authentic (I true sim guy likes the sim look of an authentic sized puck without shadow)
    Puck Trail: Off
    Wireless Visualization: On
    Forecheck visuals: Off
    Creat a Play visual: Off
    NHL Live Pop-ups: Off

When starting a game, I change to auto shooting, the reason, I can score 5-8 games a game with a manual shot. If you know a couple of glitch shots, you can make them everytime. Unless you want to be bored and go for a scoring ecord (Gretzky's not will NEVER be broken, shot manual, otherwise, seriously, auto shot is the way to goal for simulation style play!!!) (no fun) in manual shooting, in auto, it truly shots at random like an NHL player would (wide, low, high, etc.) This eliminates glitch shots.

Now to elaborate. I like a slower, NHL paced game, not a team full of Indy 500 skaters, I struggle putting game speed at one, but it works best, 0 seems like molasses in a way and you would need to raise period length to 12 minutes.

I see where some complain about breakaways happening 10 or more times a game, which tells me, you don't play you r defence. I may get on average 1 breakaway per team a game, and I would bet it is less than one. I also don't see the dman out of position often, because I take control.

Stats for my season: starts 3-4-1, but went on a tear. 15-5-3 after changing to new rosters, but like the last time, I lost in OT to LA, and this started a slide of going 1-5-1 in my last BeAGM. I face SJ next, so we will see.

I have every arena with custom music thanks to some who take the time to do this for us. It is awesome hearing true feel NHL sounds at the areans.

Stats with been a collective effort. While Zetterberg leads team with 14 G's 9 A's, I have Franzen, Filppula and St.Louis (through trade at 9-9-18, 9-8-17 and 1-12 resepctively. role players have aded like hem Clearly, Bertuzzi, Abdelkader to chip in 14 goals, with Datsyuk adding 7 G's and 16 A's.

PP, while I wish this was higher, still 20 short of other teams, throught the games played, I have 48 PP's with a 22.0% ranking 4th and 37 PK's with a 89.8% leading the league, tied with NJ.

Jimmy Hoaward has struggle at times but going 12-5-2-0, a 2.50 GAA and a 9.099%. Gustavsson was terrible so I traded him to NYI to pick up Diepietro as a solid back up, he is 2-4 with a 3.05 GAA and 8.97 % but whe I got him he was 1-4 with a 3.34 GAA and 8.81%, so the change should help him...

If you want a true slower game, true to an NHL experience, these sliders may just be for you... If you want rocket skates, I wouldn't bother, it will be too slow for you... Sliders I have posted in the past NHL 11 and 12, have went over very well, and makes you pay the game, and run an offense and play solid defence!!! Good luck and would welcome any feedback good or bad...

There are still tweaks from last year that Milennium, Harsh and a few others helped with and the game is playing phemoninal for the simulation crowd!!!

I watch a lot of NHL CentreIce during the first few weeks to see tendencies... as a side note, puck reception easy works well this year, pucks aren't like velcro anymore...

Bottom line, EA needs to come out with something similar to these, they get paid millions, so you can't tell me they can't find a "TRUE" sim style that with one click, you have it. Kudos to EA for giving multiple slider adjustments but for the time it takes in trial and error, it just makes me wish they had this out of the box... Their modes, beginner, pro, superstar, hardcore, whatever are all Arcade types due to speed and penalty scaling alone...

If you keep bowing down and praising the developers, (NHL series) nothing they give us the consumer will ever be a "finished" product. Take a stand, it is your money!!!.

Lat year some of the bigger named individuals on these boards used them and loved them, i hope you feel the same this year guys, it take months for my to get it right but when I do, that is when I feel it is time to share.... Eeveryone claims to have a sim, but to me if you play with a game speed over 3, it isn't much of a sim IMO, it is like 3 on 3 arcade with all that is missing is rocket skates and little goalies... LOL

I do hope this helps the sim crowd. I enjoyed the hurs of tweaing to get it right and hope to hep my felloe sim brotherend out wth a great game experience... Now working on NBA 2k13, this has been a ****** challenege, but I will get it... I do post MLB The Show sliders also every year also to great reviews, and like Tracy Jones says in Cincinnati, unless you've played the game you don't undertsand it... LOL Tracy and I know each other, and yes, in terms of baseball I have played the game at the professional level so I take sports gaming very seriously... more so than my wife would like.... hahaha

The closest to mine is Cyclonic but even his play a little off for me... His are awesome, but tweaking needed to be done... I truly feel in terms of penalty time scaling, you already have an advantage on the ice, 5 on 4; 4 on 3, what have you, you don't need extra minutes... By using a 1 for the scaling, while it does add time, we are talking it slows it down to where it equates to a 2 minute and 12 second PP, not 3 minutes or more... As I said, you already have an advantage, I just had to learn to get good shots, good cycling and get my chances in... This is why I have a 19% PP versus a 27-40% which is unrealistic (in most cases)... The less time the better and I struggle with it being at a 1, may move back down to 0.

        I´ll try your sliders tonight.

A couple of comments before playing:

I have speed and acceleration both at 1 and feel the pace is perfect. With acc. at 3 i might think it´s too fast, although i noticed that you have fatigue at 6 and recovery at 1 so it may produce the "slowness" you talk about. I have mine at 5 and 2 so it´s not dramatically different, but stil...

also, i believe you might not be accurate with what you want to achieve with the CPU difficulty slider. See, this slider is kind of the cpu cheating slider, the only thing it does is improve the CPU players stats. What you are trying to achieve with the cpu changing strategies, etc... is done on the AI learning slider and the cpu strategy slider, wich you have very high, so it does produce what you want to see.

Thank you I will make adjustments based on what you said... =)

See, this is where I don't agree with most of the "sim" sets of sliders. Speed... it's a fast game! How long does it take an average NHL player to skate from goal to goal? Now time that against playing on speed 1 and it's just way too slow to be called "sim". You are not simulating the speed of the real game, and that to me trumps everything else. I think mine are currently on 4, which seems about right, but I keep my acceleration lower, so you don't just pop out of a fireball to full speed in 2 strides.

I do like a lot of your other settings though, and may adjust a couple of mine accordingly, so thank you !

Here's a way to test it, in 98' Scott Neidermeyer raced around the rink in 13.56 seconds, using that as a guide, take a random player in the skating drill and race in a complete circle, if you're roughly between 13-15 seconds you know you got the speed right.

The problem with the game at high speeds is that while it may come closer to the actual game, the game itself plays awful. I'll sacrifice speed for the rest of the game to feel playable.

There's definitely a bit of compromise that needs to be made, going by speed times in skating practice, 2/4 speed/ acceleration gives the most accurate times compared to real life, but in game it's just too much. I dropped it to 2/3 and have had great results with 9 min periods. In the end though its all personal preference. There is no "right or wrong" setting
