The out of the park baseball game the company makes is really addictive and from the first couple screens I've seen of the Franchise Hockey Manager it looks like it's going to be a similar style of menus etc.

While it will only be the first version so it might not have everything we want in it if your a hockey fan your going to want to check this game out.

ooooh wow, I hadn't heard of this development until now and I'm really excited considering my current EHM save is in 2042.

        Definitely recommend that you buy.

Quick story: I could never get what I wanted out of baseball console games. Fake minor leaguers, fake Barry Bonds before that, no expansion teams (after ASB 05), and other glitches such as too many homeruns for lefties, etc...so I gave OOTP a try. I have never gone back. Do I miss pressing a button to swing a bat or seeing some cool replay? Sometimes. But I like being able to edit rosters, teams, etc...plus the use of real logos, in game sound, and stadium pictures really lessens that blow.

I also love hockey...and with EA we get lack of penaties, sim injury bugs, lack of editing of players, infrequent (and often incorrect) roster updates, and the rest.

I have a feeling FHM can be a suitable replacement for console gaming. Maybe it is an age thing (I am 39) so I played board games and went through th PS2 years where console games had a lot more than today (remember in NHL when players could get sick, when fatigue could affect a player, and where the other team actually called for a fight?)

Console gaming is more and more geared to online play and microtransactions. Sim gaming will be (is?) dead. If it happens in real life but it doesn't make for a "fun" experience for the casual gamer who expects and often will pay for boosts, cheat codes, etc. it will be toned down. If CBAs are too complicated they will not be fully enacted.

Back to the baseball example, compare OOTP to the Show. Look at contract negotiations, roster rules, etc. Night and day. And the best part? All rules are completely editable in OOTP. You truly can get the game experience you want.

So this game may not be perfect but I encourage everyone to pick it up so the developers have the resources to make it what OOTP has become.

And no, I don't get a kickback if you buy. But, I believe I will get a better game if you do.

I find both release dates odd. To release a beta on the same day as a much anticipated simulation game is released in Simcity and then to release the full version when the game of the year GTA V is coming out seems off. I understand these games are geared maybe different demographics but still you will being living in the media limelight of the other two games. I guess I would want to release when the lull of the gaming year happens.

I question your logic with the release dates. This game isn't built to compete with SimCity or GTA V. Media and hype are not what drives the OOTP games, when was the last time you seen a TV ad for any of there games. The main marketing for FHM has been, and I assume will continue to be word of mouth.

This game will be unreal, and if it is anywheres close to EHM or the OOTP franchise we will be in for a treat. One bonus is this game is suppose to be way more customizable than EHM. I for one will be shelling out my $30 for the beta version.

Looks pretty good. I installed a logo pack and a face pack. Pretty extensive. I'll post some screens and initial impressions as soon as I can sit down with it for a bit.

Awesome, found out awhile back there is no Mac version yet, I have actually been contemplating buying a cheap laptop just to get a chance to play, but I will probably just continue to wait patiently.

I have yet to play a game without it crashing. I think I am making it unstable making roster moves ( I was trying to make the rosters as current as this week). I might try a historical season just to get some screens up on here for everyone to check out.

I might do a 92-93 season as the pens and see if I can 3-peat instead of being upset by the Isles.

Here are a few screens of the 1969 Pens game I started. Historical rosters are only done up to 1983 so scratch my original idea.

Roster and lines for the 1969 pens:
