    Recruiting Help?

How the hell do you recruit well in this game? It seems like every year there's only one guy who I'm #1 on the list of and everyone else is way too uninterested for me to recruit them up.

Am I having issues because I'm playing as a small program or am I doing something wrong?

The first couple of years are hard at small programs. You will have to recruit 2* and 3* guys and recruit locally in your home state or region. Sometimes when it gets late into recruiting you can get some 4* guys. Also don't get discouraged on recruits when you are #4 or higher on their list because as time goes by the other schools will drop off and you will then become #1 on the list. You have to learn as you go. I am simming a legacy right now with Eastern Illinois just to see what happens but i am doing all the recruiting in between. I just finished the 2022-2023 season at 30-2 but was upset in 1st round of tournament. That's the crappy part when you sim, I have had a couple really good teams but they get beat in 1st round. I just decided to go to Michigan because it was a big school to see what I can do, which seems weird on the day of the IU game and I am an IU fan...lol We'll see how this goes.

Another thing is to go into coach settings and pick what type of players you want, it does matter. I have been going after shooters and defense. You can also sort players by points per game etc. and I have been able to get some 2* and 3* players who average 16-20 points per game in ABL because they are generally wanted by smaller schools. Just my 2 cents on this not that I am perfect but just some ideas for you.

      Thanks taf

All about charisma. A higher charisma rating, easier to recruit. Put all your points on charisma and then gradually put some one teaching to develop players.

I agree with putting all of your first stock of skill points into Charisma so you can focus on bringing your own guys to the team for the first few years. If you do this and are playing well, you'll notice the recruits you get are better each year than the last crop.

Any tips on when to actually offer then the scholarship? Early in the process? Late?

This depends on many factors like how your interest compares to the other teams. If you all are pretty close, I'd just throw right in as soon as possible. What I do notice, though, is if a player has "Feeling Wanted" as his top priority and you are competing with other teams for him, you will always want to offer as soon as you can as each week you don't, the other teams will get bigger boosts of interest for offering schollies first.

In nearly all cases, it helps to offer right away rather than waiting. If you have a decent enough interest, sometimes teams will admit their defeat and not offer them because they know you have him in the bag.

The only case where I believe you should wait is if you are going after big time recruits as a small team with big schools chasing them. If everyone's interest is similar and you throw in early, all the schools will throw in right after you and one of those bigger schools will likely nail the prospect. But if you wait, bigger schools might run out of scholarships and you'll still be there to steal the recruit.

Agree with pretty much what strobox88 said. If I'm around the same level of interest, or higher, with a prospect I'll usually offer the scholarship quickly as possible (unles they are a World recruit). When I'm a mid-major or lower and going after guys with the Power and Major schools after them, I try to wait it out in the hopes they'll drop off or I can get the upper hand.

Like mentioned earlier too, try to look for guys later in the off-season recruiting that may not be getting recruited much, you can't get some gems (I got a 5 star SG from Mexico doing that one year). Can do that after the in-season signing period as well, haven't had as much luck with that though (also, I don't look for new players to start recruiting during that in-season signing period, just so I don't end up wasting recruiting points on a guy who signs for another team at the end).

Don't fill up your recruit list at the beginning of the off season wait til the week before the last and that's when all the guys Jo haven't got many offers just magically become around 85-95 percent interested in your school.
I've recruited a few JC 3 star guys because of that

Hmmmm, I'll have to give that a try! I always go right after guys I want (but never get). Im in my 5th year now (after winning my 1st NC) and I've noticed better recruits have an interest now. I'm actually pulling guys away from the Georgetowns & Marylands of the world. The JC/World recruits advantage has never worked out for me. I've signed a couple JC recruits but the world guys never want to come to Howard (unless they're 2 or 1 star)
