Is it a copout to tweak a teams Help Defense slider based on their defensive ability?

Yes, there should be a noticeable difference between a poor defensive team and a Tom Thibodeau coached team, but... it's not like the bad defensive teams intentionally make the effort to not rotate defensively. They just don't know how to do so, consistently, on an elite level.

Know what I mean? Has anyone thought about this?

At my son's basketball game the other day, while we were in the huddle, the head coach said I want you to bring more help. It's the same in 2K.

In fact, sometimes the commentators even suggest you do it.

That said, I try and make it my goal to not adjust these sliders and manually put people where they should be on defense so the team plays more like its real coach might have them play.

Good players will recognize when help is high and get the CPU to help so they can dish.

This is the main reason to learn to manually sag off to protect the basket or bring help when you need it. Often the CPU might help with a defender you would prefer didn't.

But it is not a copout to adjust them.

there is a difference. if the players on your team have low defensive awareness, turning the slider up will just make your team play even worse d because they wont really do a good job staying with the guy they are guarding or helping to stop a drive.
