I seem to remember FSU being in Omaha and beating a certain Stony Brook team.

Texas Tech taking on Northern Illinois, Northern Colorado, and BYU this weekend in the Brooks Wallace Memorial Classic here in Lubbock. Unfortunately I won't be able to hit the ballpark this weekend, but I'll update the thread with scores.

In the first two games of the BW Classic, BYU owned Northern Colorado 9-0, but NCU made the right adjustments and beat the Cougars 6-4. In Game 1, BYU's pitcher threw a CG shutout, rung up 10 batters, and threw 119 pitches.

                  Re: Week 1 Discussion (2/15-2/17)

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is... Baseball time in Texas!

The Arlington Mavericks host a three game series against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington. Although they play in the same conference, the merry-go-round of conference island jumping has made it to where this three game series does not count in conference standings. A bit convoluted, but there you go.

Ryan Walker is the star of this team, but is moving from third to short in his Senior campaign. I don't know what to take from that, but he's been given the chance. Josh Beck gets the nod for this team with a 3-1 record last year with an ERA of 4.30. He pitched very well last year, but got burned a number of times. Tonight supposedly marks the debut of Darien McLemore, who is the son of beloved former Texas Ranger Mark McLemore. McLemore will take up second base, and has the opportunity to play it this year where his Dad played when the Mavericks host the Horned Frogs at the Ballpark in Arlington.

Having said all of that, I have no clue how we'll do this year with a new conference and Preston Beck's departure to the Texas Rangers. We are ranked sixth in the Western Athletic Power Poll, one place above the Bulldogs, so we have our work cut out for us. I'll head out to the park in a bit for a 6:30pm showdown, and you can catch the action on www.utaradio.com or the iHeartRadio app.

What a beautiful field. Too bad being a member of the church of Christ doesn't get you anywhere near that university now a days; otherwise I would have done my damnedest to get there.

SDSU starting the season off against #12 USD to open their brand new field.

Michael Cederoth taking the hill for State.

SDSU up early 2-0 still top 1 with runners on first and second, 1 out.

LSU Wins 1-0. Freshman superstar Alex Bregman gave the game's only RBI. Not to say it was a struggle, LSU got hits but you know baseball, they couldn't string them together. Bregman did commit back to back errors with 2 outs at the end of the game however.

Also, IT WAS ****ING FREEZING JESUS.

The Arlington Mavericks defeated the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in walk-off style 7-6. 724 fans braved the cold with the wind chill dipping below freezing and saw a wild game. UT-Arlington ace John Beck pitched five innings, keeping a no hitter through four. However, three runs scored for LaTech without them reaching on a hit due to four batters being hit by a pitch, two walks and two errors.

After the Bulldogs hit for three more runs in the sixth, the score was 6-1 with the Mavs against the wall. However, smallball action moved UTA up the board with key hits from Catcher Gregg McCall and Third Baseman Peter Quomo. The Mavericks clawed back to trail by one heading into the bottom of the ninth. After a hit by pitch and a single that put the runners at the corners, Darien McLemore was called to pinch hit, and hit into a fielders choice that traded a run for an out. After Quomo walked, it was Miller time when Derek Miller hit a walk-off single that ended the game.

It was as cold as hell, I couldn't feel my knees, and by God it was Baseball on the greatest scale.
