    1-3-1 Zone/Trap/Double Team

This year a lot of people seem to be running forms of these with ease and really making offense a lot more difficult for me. Either I end up just jacking up a lot of threes or turning the ball over a lot. In the past, these defenses were not as effective against me. What are some ways everyone has been beating these cheese defenses this year?

For 1-3-1, even though I don't play online that much, for those times I do, I run Baseline DBL in the corners a lot. Should get them open, and if they aren't open will be someone else open.

For traps and doubles, I just use a team with a good ball handler, and when you get stuck in a double, dribble away from the double team and you have an open lane.

I think more people are running the 1-3-1 because of the Shookya videos that have a ton of views on youtube.

I play with OKC and I use dribble penetration w/ Russ and KD when the floor is spread out. If you get by a defender you are gold. You either draw another defender leaving someone open or you have an open lane for a dunk. If I can't get by a defender, then I'll use Durant oe Russ with a dribble move to get an open shot. They typically dont double team. Pick and roll's work well too. You have to be patient and take what the defense gives you. Look for open players on the perimeter and open lanes for a layup. If you use PnR's and work the ball around, someone will get open.

my friend played him last week and put up 80 on him in a game he used the Bucks to his Heat, 1-3-1 is very beatable if you run a play to break it down to get them to rotate in a certain way to free up open shooters.

For 1-3-1 just pass to the corner for an easy 3. I've been running 1-3-1 with defensive pressure at 100 and deny ball/play tight on good shooters, people have no idea what to do.

I would say 4 out of 5 players act that way.

Running Horns will put your shooters in the corners - or at least your 2 and 3. You can run it if you want but seriously a simple dive on the outside of your big will draw the corner defender which allows you to kick it out for an easy shot for the corner guy. The user will have to user control him to close out so you can step up for an easy shot as well.

I went 2-0 vs. two 1-3-1 guys today - Vince Carter went 6/7 from 3 and had 30 points that game. Paul George had 32 and I ran the same sets - because once they started sitting on the corner you can actually run the Horn set and really drive them crazy.

No it's not. If you spread the floor, dribble penetrate or pick N roll, you can get past this. You end up getting open dunks or open jumpers. I get open jumpers with Durant using a simple cross over or other dribble move. Playing tight D has it's draw backs.

The 1-3-1 has never given me an issue. I don't even need to run a play to break it, just move the ball around, there will be an open 3 almost every time. If you dont' want to shoot a 3 there will be plenty of other open shots too.

The Trap double team is even easier to beat. You will see it coming and don't let yourself be near the corner (halfcourt and sideline). Drive and pass to the open player.

no, it is cheese. no basketball team plays like that. its unrealistic, its cheesy.

i beat cheesers like this all the time, that doesnt make it any less cheesy though.

Running a 1-3-1 Zone with tight coverage doesn't sound like cheese to me. For one, it's beatable if you are any good at this game and second, is it much different from NBA or college teams when they play a tight zone? Are you saying it's only okay to play zone only if you loosen the coverage?

yeah cuz we all know NBA plays zone exclusively. man to man D is for pickup games. I never see guys in the NBA play man to man.

can't play you 1vs1 dudes anymore. blacktop and teamup I don't have to deal with the overpowered / unrealistic cpu tricks compensating for your lack of skillz.

Clippers Playbook is full of Horns plays.

Patience is the key when playing against 1-3-1, as it often leaves players wide open in the corners and open from mid range. So if your open, why not shoot it? in basketball often the offence takes whats given to them by the defence and in this instance i laugh at the idea that long range shooting is cheese against this set.

PG with good handles, high passing attributes and high offensive awareness, Decent shooting wingmen, and a great centre with a strong low post game is all you need for domination. Couple that with some Horns & Floppy plays and its win win all day baby.

If you still are struggling, put it on 1-3-1 while playing against the CPU & take note how you get broken down & use this to your advantage.
