I read this article when it was first posted but somehow missed these details until someone pointed them out in another thread.

Perry said PS4 will let other players look over your shoulder virtually as you're playing and, if you allow them to, post comments directly to your screen. I find this exciting news since people have been wanting a Spectator Mode in Madden for quite sometime and is something I thought would have happened this console gen, provided as a feature within various individual games. That's all moot now seeing as this capability will be built into at least the PS4 but presumably the new Xbox as well. So what are your thoughts on this new capability and what it could mean for Madden?

As a gamer that is very interested in online leagues, I feel this will really help Commissioners and Community Creators monitor the type of play that goes on. I also hope this can be used to help police the wild west of online ranked through created moderating methods. Also, I used to enjoy playing online for money but stopped due to the difficulty of exposing cheaters and cheesers. Now if those type of monetary gaming sites will utilize this capability as a watchdog system to ensure fair play, I will be back on that circuit. Aside from that, I think it will be fun to finally have the ability to view other people's games, live, whether for entertainment or to scout the competition.

Honestly I think this is a good idea. People been asking EA do this for sports game for years now. So Sony is doing it and hopefully MS will follow as well. They have given fans what they been asking for. You ask and you shall get. This cuts out the headache having to using other stuff just to show you gaming live. This is a great step for the next gen console. Also it will be good for sports fans who are doing leagues as well. I'm looking forward to using it when I get the system.

I agree Legend and this is the first news in a long while that has me excited about NFL gaming going forward. Everything else is just unfounded optimism about G4 being a new era of EA football or the exclusive ending this year but this capability in the new consoles seems like something I can put some trust in.

Not to mention what this could mean for gamers interested in creating their own highlight reels or weekly league wrap ups. Just glad to have something that an potentially be used to bring more life and immersion to NFL gaming, that I don't have to wait on EA Tiburon or any other gaming studio to provide.

Particularly for online leagues, and assuming this feature is available on both consoles (though I certainly don't declare brand loyalty to either Sony or MS), this feature is one of the most exciting developments to me about next-gen consoles. One of the things I was hopeful for for online games in future Maddens was a minimal game-tracking feature similar to NFL.com where we could see the lines on the field with play summaries; having streaming built-in means that that is no longer needed, however.

All that said, I'm going to need to upgrade my internet to take full advantage.

This is a really good point as it would finally provide a justification for getting the highest internet speeds in my area. I have the second fastest spend available now but have no real reason why because I honestly can't tell the difference between the middle speed and this one, except for the price of course, lol. At least with this capability maybe I can finally see a tangible value in having the faster speeds to watch and broadcast league games.

Since EA has denied me the enjoyment of running a 32-team franchise by myself, I've taken to online leagues, and all we can talk about is how "I wish we could all watch the super bowl" or "Wow, that sounded like a great game. Wish I could've seen it." This is a HUGE selling point to me, along with the ability to take snapshots and share them. It will make running a league much more fulfilling and will hopefully keep users involved.

Exactly. Considering all the over hyped underwhelming things that get discussed in this forum, I am surprised more people don't seem interested or excited about this. People have been complaining for the longest about how disconnected online franchise can be and this tech might finally allow gamers to feel intertwined, a part of something big. Maybe I just have too much imagination but I can really see so much potential in something like this and it's not like it's Tiburon or any other studio installing a feature, it's built into the new console.

Most people probably don't know or didn't bother with it but OS has an online community in M13. I can just imagine interest increasing with that if fellow OSers are able to actually watch each others games. Could give an opportunity to have OS Madden tournaments where cheating/cheesing is prohibited and easily enforced because the games can be seen by everyone. I see this as something that will bring online sports gaming out of the dark of night and into the light of day, exposed to everyone. I think that will lead to more fair play across the board and also put more onus on gaming companies to release better games.

The bugs/glitches thread is full of problems that people don't provide video for and someone is constantly asking for video proof from someone else because they have never experienced it. This capability was the potential to expose more, much easier, which should lead to a unified push for improvements and fixes.

This will surely help online sim leagues in monitoring league rule violators. Hopefully it won't cause horrible lags for live streaming.

My only concern about it is that the game would have to censor what the spectators see. I would happily let people watch my games from the broadcast view, but I absolutely do NOT want random spectators watching my play call screen or audibles or formation subs or anything like that. Yeah, it could be the commish checking up to make sure everything is kosher, or it could be your opponent with a second TV peeking into your huddle.

Yeah I thought about this too but Madden does have "bluff mode" built into the playcalling. I guess it's a tradeoff but seems like it could also promote play calling diversity with having so many people virtually looking over your shoulder, lol. Then again if there is a way to limit or password protect who can see your broadcast and not just some general "public/private" setting, that could work. You could then allow only those authorized to monitor games to do so, not your opponent or other randoms.

That said, even if it is just a general public/private setting, bluff mode and play call diversity would prevent SpyGate 2.0, lol. Not to mention as long as both players are required to broadcast then that seems fair.

There is a PS4 commercial trailer that briefly talks about using the "share" button on the controller to record/upload video clips and pictures but I don't know if that can be used for whole games. That alone I think will be a great way to bring immersion to online leagues because Users might finally have a method to easily create their own highlight packages, with full audio and possibly create league wrap ups, weekly.

That said, if the broadcast tech is anything like that shown in the OnLive video I posted, it would seem fairly easy to record a full broadcasted game from a PC or other device that can stream the video. So I am thinking that any games broadcasted from a PS4 can be watched/streamed on the PS4, PC and other devices, any of which that have recording capability could do so.
