    Blzer's All-Star Sliders & Settings (MLB 13)

    UPDATED 3/7

These sliders are incredibly subject to change and are based on my MLB 12 sliders. However, I was quite surprised how much I end up having to change things, though. I thought I'd get my slider set up now for a few reasons:

    1) I'll be too lazy to do it later, or I'll keep holding off.
    2) I want them to be open to criticism immediately, because I won't be able to test them much the next few days.
    3) I didn't ever end up getting them up last year, and I know there were many people who PM'ed me about them. I figure if I got these out earlier, it could be a good base for something.

I've been doing sliders for the community since MLB 09: The Show, and I have to give credit to those who helped me back then as we came up with a great slider set:

    - rudyjuly2
    - BleacherCreature
    - mgoblue678
    - hawkeyekid
    - Defel
    - The Chef
    - pberardi
    - The Autumn Wind

Without you guys, my sliders wouldn't be how they are. And thanks for everybody else that posted results with the given sliders at the time, "approving" them.

Let's hope we can do it again!

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

You'll notice a few crazy things with these sliders that you might not have tried before, and eventually I'm going to post a video (and hopefully upload a file so you can just download the sliders) so you don't have to read them like this, and I'll explain the reasons behind everything at that time. I very much appreciate criticism, questions, results, and anything else under the sun.

I'll make a few notes here before continuing:

    - I'll seldom use the power swing on 2-0 and 3-0 pitches only, and will sometimes use the contact swing with two strikes.

    - I use the left stick to aim my hitting.

    - This year, with the ability to hide some of the HUD clutter, I've made an effort to go with Classic pitching for the first time ever, just because there is now nothing on my screen that you wouldn't see in a regular ballgame (until the ball is put in play, of course). Make with it what you will, but that's what my base will be off of.

    - Just so you know, the Wind slider does not make, say, 5 MPH a stronger 5 MPH when the slider is cranked up higher. It simply allows for stronger winds on any given day, actually allowing much more hit variety when you get different kinds of winds. I've had as strong as 40 MPH wind before (only once had it ever gone even close to that extreme) and as weak as 0 MPH, like my first game I played with my slider set. So I like it up at 10 for this reason. Makes a nice hit/scoring disparity for games, and allows you to play to a certain strategy based on said wind.

That's really all I can think of from that standpoint. So... here we go!

On another note, if you guys enjoy the sliders enough, don't be a stranger... feel free to give this thread a rating of your choice if you'd like. If it's for a good cause (even if negative), I'm ready for the consequences. Thanks all for doing what you do!

      Thanks.

I'm expecting a bit of an offensive explosion (double digits in hits and so on and so forth) because of this year's easier hitting, but just let me know what you think overall.

If you're more comfortable with something that you'd like to turn on, like the throwing meter, the hot zones, or the catch position indicator, feel free to do so. I don't know if that will affect anything with regard to how my sliders play out in my games.

Oh wow, you finally posted a slider set man! Good to see. People, this guys slider sets are about as close to a real broadcast as it can be, if it's the same as last years that you pm'ed me. Everyone should give these a shot and see what you think!

Gonna try these out tonight. I've heard good things about your sets. Only difference for me is using timing hitting.

          Will report back.

Gonna give these a whirl on the Vita. With the PS3 version stuttering problem I'm not going to bother with it until there's a patch

Gee thanks, the pressure's on now.

By the way, these will work on the Vita as well... but I recommend you lower the pitch speed on Vita, maybe even to 4 or 5. Many reasons here:

                1) Lower framerate.
                2) Smaller screen.
                3) Different camera angle.

Not sure about that stuttering problem, though. I must have not yet noticed it.

I'm going to play a game on the Vita right now, Astros (CPU) vs. Blue Jays (me). If all goes well, I should win.

Oh, and one more thing. You see how I turn off the pitch selection screen? If you need to see what they throw, press Select then L1. The first pitch is X, second O, third Triangle, fourth Square, and fifth R1. Once you learn the pitcher's stuff, you probably won't look back.

                  Re: Blzer's All-Star Sliders & Settings (MLB 13)

So I just played two games, and both had unfair lurking variables:

Game 1 - Houston Astros (CPU) vs. Toronto Blue Jays (me)

Yep, I had R.A. Dickey picking, and he shined pretty much the entire time. I mostly threw the knuckleball, and Houston was chasing it left and right. For some reason, their pitcher in this game held me down in the last few innings. That's pretty much where I kept striking out. I'm not sure why this was.

Game 2 - Washington Nationals (CPU) vs. Miami Marlins (me)

You'll see it in the box score, but I had four throwing errors. I totally forgot how sensitive the Vita's sticks were when it came to throwing, and apparently I was uncalibrated this entire game. Maybe it was the way I was sitting or something. I ended up turning the throwing meter from No Feedback to Off, just because I couldn't stand the throwing errors. Wind was also blowing in from left field at 13 MPH. I would have had one more home run, and they would have had one or two more as well. It was a well played game from both sides.

I'm getting singles or homers with an occasional double. That's for the CPU as well. Should I up the solid hits slider?

Are those screen shots for the Vita? If so I'd like to post my screens here. Can you walk me thru the process?

I was hoping the occasional fat pitches would take care of that. I'm going to tweak more with the solid hits slider, but I'm trying to eliminate too many singles from being hit if that makes sense.

Hold the PS button and press Start, and that will take a picture of your game (COD: Black Ops Declassified is the only game I know of that blocks this). Then upload them with your Flickr app on Vita. If you don't have it, download it for free from the PS Store and register a username. Then log in to your Flickr account on your PC and paste the images into your post.

Bobhead, my video doesn't help kind of just show how I maneuvered my camera? I kind of zoom out, pan up & over, and then tilt upward and offset as well. I can't really explain it, which is why I posted the video.

Thanks Blzer for the slider breakdown and settings. Love the vid for the custom batting angle. Do you tweak the broadcast view pitching angle?

Looks like we have some of same sliders that are close to being 'zero' tweaked, the same as previous editions of The Show.

                            Fielder speed
                            Solid hits

Anxious to try your wind adjustment.

We should run more through the CPU's Contact and Timing sliders. The last thing I want is for them to foul off more balls, but if it means fouling it off one more time with two strikes so they can put it in play the next pitch, I'm good with that. I think I lowered all of the CPU and Human hitting sliders by one from last year, so maybe I'll bump Contact up one more again for CPU and see what comes of it.

I do not, since every angle is tied into the specific stadium. Sure as hell wish we had the same for broadcast fielding cameras though.

Looks like we have some of same sliders that are close to being 'zero' tweaked, the same as previous editions of The Show.

Anxious to try your wind adjustment.
I actually just edited my sliders last night to raise Fielder Speed to 1 (raised Fielder Reaction by 1 as well). I think there were too many ground ball singles finding holes. I think to remedy this though, we may have to raise the Solid Hits slider by 1 or 2. Hopefully that will help generate a few more extra base hits. Time will tell.

I might also lower the Throwing Speed slider by 1 as well. Gunning people out a bit too much at home plate on base hits that aren't directly at the outfielders.

Oh, and the wind slider maxed out is awesome. You want variation in hits from game to game? This is the key. One day you'll have 2 MPH wind blowing out to right, and the next day you'll have 17 MPH crosswind from left to right, then you'll have 12 MPH wind in from center, then 4 MPH wind out to right center, then 21 MPH wind in from right, then 10 MPH wind from right to left... it's pretty cool.
