The wierdest case of this happening was with Brian Wilson and I had him on a 3 year deal....why would someone retire due to a bad free agent market if they're still under contract? I'm guessing this is a bug in franchise but I wonder if anyone else has experienced it and if the devs could fix it.

Lots of good players retiring due to "Bad Free Agent Market"
This year it seems that there is a large amount of guys retiring because of the free agent market. Last year it seemed only guys rated below 70 would retire for this reason. The most notable guys I've seen this happen to are Brian Wilson and Kyle Lohse in my sims, now it makes sense that some lower rated guys would retire if there isn't much chance of them getting drafted but why would a guy like Wilson retire at his age and rating?

Re: Lots of good players retiring due to "Bad Free Agent Market"
I haven't seen this, but I did notice last year, a lot of guys retired due to "career ending injury"! My main dynasty had Bryce Harper, Mike Trout, and Matt Moore all retire due to injury in one season! Hope this doesn't happen a lot in 2013! -
Re: Lots of good players retiring due to "Bad Free Agent Market"
The game will use the June amateur draft as a way to replenish players. So, when people aren't signed by the time it creates new players, someone is created to replace them and they will retire no matter what. This year it seems that there is a large amount of guys retiring because of the free agent market. Re: Lots of good players retiring due to "Bad Free Agent Market"
This has been going on since the games on the PS2. It's quite annoying and would be great if they toned the algorithm for this feature down. No one ever retires like that under contract, or under the age of 30.Comment

I can understand if the guys are under 70 or maybe haven't been signed in two years but why big named players that are still rated well| Brewers | Packers | Angels | Bucks | Badgers |Comment

Re: Lots of good players retiring due to "Bad Free Agent Market"
Before you advance to offseason in RTTS, go to options and turn injuries to manual, then go to the disabled list and look thru the various teams to see if any big name players were out with like ACL, MCL, achilles, broken ankle, head fracture, etc. type injuries. If you find one, click over, with R2 I believe, to the list of players, find that guy, and remove his injury.
If you want to be realistic, you can re-injure the guy to start the next season, but probably not with the same injury because you have to account for the time passed in the off-season.
But be sure to change the injury option back to "ON" when you're done, because I noticed a lack of injuries when I left it on "MANUAL" by accident for a full season. Could have been a coincidence, but still...better safe than sorry.
All of this was in last year's game, I've hardly played 13 yet, but I'm sure it's similar.Comment

Great thought...I hadn't thought of that idea.Comment

Re: Lots of good players retiring due to "Bad Free Agent Market"
Guys will still retire during a contract of they have a severe injury and other factors. I haven't seen any other player in a contract retire yet. If a player sits on the fa list for a year there is a good chance he'll retire as well.Comment

Re: Lots of good players retiring due to "Bad Free Agent Market"
I was just going to post a new thread until I saw this one. I just had Chase Headley retire due to "poor free agent market" after the 2015 season. He was 31 years old and a 97 overall. His stats hadn't taken a hit, either. I don't know what his contract status was as he wasn't on my team (IRL he becomes a FA after the 2014 season). Regardless of his contract, though, that kind of retirement is ridiculous. Does anybody know what criteria the game is looking at to determine retirements?Comment

Re: Lots of good players retiring due to "Bad Free Agent Market"
In my RTTS I'm a 99 OVR CF in 2020 and just won a World Series with the Mets. I'm a .300 hitter with 30-50 HR's and in the offseason I only received one contract offer and that was from the Mets. I think it was about 5 years $75 million.I was just going to post a new thread until I saw this one. I just had Chase Headley retire due to "poor free agent market" after the 2015 season. If I'm such a good player, how come more teams aren't looking to offer me contracts? I understand that not every team has the money to offer me a contract, or that every team doesn't need a CF, but I only received one offer.
In Spring Training I had to try out for a team and I chose the Mariners.
I find that it's a little bit ridiculous that only my previous team had offered me a contract.Comment

Re: Lots of good players retiring due to "Bad Free Agent Market"
What I've been doing to try and avoid Injury Retirement is... When a player gets a serious injury I edit it to be less severe... I know players still retire to other things like the title of this thread and age or whatnot but you can only do so much, so I try...Comment

Re: Lots of good players retiring due to "Bad Free Agent Market"
I do the same.
I will go through all the injuries 3 or 4 times a season and make sure anyone that is a key player isn't severely injured.
I also go through and injure a lot of the high potential players that look ridiculous (stirrups, crazy side burns, ect.) just so the league isn't filled with a bunch of weirdos in 10 years.Denver Broncos
Colorado Rockies
Denver NuggetsComment

Hilarious, love it!
