Defense Anchor: Is it the key to TRUE defense?

The title says it all. I challenge Pacers users to begin using this team in online ranked games. Roy Hibbert was given the Defensive Anchor signature skill (rightfully so) which helps "boost" the defensive attributes of the team.

I just want to confirm that I'm not going crazy. It feels like that on-the-ball defense is tighter (aka very little sliding), and I SWEAR I'm seeing new defensive contest/contact animations underneath the rim. One of the things that frustrated me the most about playing online was how the elite teams' (Lakers, Heat, Knicks, Thunder) players would slice through my defense like hot butter and there's no paint contact; HOWEVER, I could make the SAME moves, and my players would get breathed on by the defense and be forced into unnecessary shot changing animations.

Since the Heat, Lakers, Knicks, and Thunder users had someone with the Defensive Anchor signature skills since Day 1, they probably won't know what I'm talking about. Pacers users will be probably be able prove/disprove my suspicion since Roy Hibbert will be the only player to be given the signature skill after the release date.

Thanks for the update. Too bad I don't have that in my association.

Didn't realize that they took Granger back out.

I do agree with you. You can work around it to some degree but it's a challenging team to use at least the way I use them.

i dunno if its a difference. played a kobe user who forced his way into the paint where CPU hibbert was waiting and he still was finishing and 1 contact layups. mad they took Granger from me again. his onball D was nice against the stars.

Somehow I'm always using Hibbert in myteam . His so hard to get him to block shots and I get maybe 12 boards with him and 15-16 with any other centers.

I can't wait to see what he does with defensive anchor

It would be nice if Larry Sanders got that sig skill

I do. Not only for his sig skill, but for the fact that he rebounds half-well (the team is pretty inept at it). Plus he does have a decent mid-range shot when left open. I also appreciate/use Anthony, and Andersen for their rebounding. Most don't because they see Wade and James and figure they can just outscore the other team. However, since few teams have/need five scoring options on the floor using one or two for purely defensive reasons makes sense.

I think there was a patch. I have been playing much better defense with my team for about a week to a week and a half now. I am able to get more blocks, contact, etc and I have not been playing anyone with the defensive anchor.

I actually got used to playing without Granger. I do have to admit that when he came back briefly, I was using him as a scoring machine. I found it easy to drop 20 points with him online, and forget about the players of the starting 5. The updated Lance Stephenson is pretty nice though, because he rated to his real-life counterpart. A showboating player who pushes the fastbreak after securing a defensive rebound while putting pressure on the transition defense.

I'm going to play online today to put my theory to the test today though. I have to know if the Defensive Anchor skill is "overpowered" when it comes to playing defense.

Conclusion: Defensive Anchor is must have signature skill for any defensive team. Without it...defense is futile. I'm might actually start playing more online games again, because I can now play "descent" defense with a slow-paced offense.

Kinda sucks that the only you can play true defense is to have two players with the Lockdown Defender and Defensive Anchor signature skills.

Yep. It really helps against players who have a TON of signature skills. Like IRL, Paul George can guard multiple positions, so I usually put him on the hot player. Especially the players who have those stupid Closer, Deadeye, and Finisher signature skills which nullifies ALL your defensive efforts you manage against these players. The drawback is that Stephenson is undersized at the SF spot when I switch George to guard a SG. I have debated starting Green (Young is in reserves), but Stephenson has become one heck of a fastbreak player since the last update.

EDIT: This team is going to be interesting when Granger comes back.

i dont think it was the defensive anchor sig i think 2k made some under the hood changes to the defense in the last roster update. I am seeing more block shots and some animations i have never seen before.
