Just trying to get some ideas on how to handle it since I've never been very good at contracts and what is best to offer and things like that. Stuff like arbitration, I know what it means, but don't really know the best time to use it.

Braves fans...
Has anyone made it to the offseason yet? Just wondering what your plans were going to be. I simmed through a season and it is looking tough to resign everyone. You have Heyward, Freeman, Simmons, Kimbrell, McCann, Beachy, Medlen, Minor, Teheran, etc. all looking for contracts.

Re: Braves fans...
Well, you should still be able to keep all of them except Mac given that all the others are arbitration eligible and don't necessarily need to go all out with the money. Actually, Teheran, Simmons, Beachy and Minor aren't arb eligible yet so you should be ok. I would sign Heyward and Freeman to long term deals and maybe Mac if you can afford it.est 1978

Re: Braves fans...
Medlen had a big year for me, winning the Cy Young award and increasing to 98 overall, so I signed him to a 5 year deal. 2 year contracts were given to Heyward, Mac, and Walden. Venters and Simmons to a three year contract. All of the other big names were arbitration eligible so I got everyone back, traded Minor and one of my A potential third base players for two A potential pitchers (Bundy and Tillman from Baltimore, who are having great seasons) and i'm in first place right now!Comment

Re: Braves fans...
unfortunately that shows the still flawed trade logic in the game. No way the O's are trading bundy away, especially not for minor and a 3B prospect when they already have machado.Medlen had a big year for me, winning the Cy Young award and increasing to 98 overall, so I signed him to a 5 year deal. 2 year contracts were given to Heyward, Mac, and Walden. Yeah, I couldn't believe it. I was kind of disappointed they accepted it lol made it too unrealistic. However, Minor is doing pretty good for them so far haha.Comment

Same here....Medlen won 21 games and a Cy Young for me. Heyward hit 39 bombs and Freeman hit 32, they both had monster years. I think I'm going to have let more than McCann go to get by.Medlen had a big year for me, winning the Cy Young award and increasing to 98 overall, so I signed him to a 5 year deal. 2 year contracts were given to Heyward, Mac, and Walden. Re: Braves fans...
I'm likely going to let go of McCann seeing as how this very well could be his last year in a Braves uniform IRL. As much as I've always liked playing w/ him in-game I feel I need to let someone go so I can get some fun factor come off-season. Maybe bring up Betancourt season 2, and look to draft a catcher/3B to eventually fill those 2 holes (if betancourt doesn't pan out)Comment

I try and do the things that the thread tells me to do and for some reason I still can't sign free agents. I set my contracts and free agents to automatic and I started see my team signing fee agents so I thought that maybe I will be able to do this as well but when I switched back to manual and I tried to give the same players the same contract it tells me that I can no longer afford the contract. I really am at a place where I just can'[t do anything manually. Has anyone been able to sign free agents manually with the Braves and if so what did you do to increase budget room? This thread should help you out.

Re: Braves fans...
Have you tried firing scouts and hiring cheaper alternatives? I haven't gotten to the offseason with the Braves yet (I'm hoping by the time I do any problems will be patched) but I did do an offseason with the Astros and they only had a 44 million payroll and I was able to sign some Free Agents. Also don't resign players to contracts unless you have too. Use the contract renewal option to your advantage. Offer them a 1 yr/30 k deal to make sure they don't accept it and then renew them. Don't offer qualifying offers to anyone unless you are willing to pay $8 million to that player.
Again though I haven't done an offseason with the Braves yet and I don't plan on doing one any time soon, I'm going to play every game of the 2013 season because I love the way this roster is built.Comment

Re: Braves fans...
I haven't played an off-season with the Braves yet. But I was having trouble signing guys in my Twins franchise but having a full 40-man roster, Hiring all the cheapest scouts to free up budget room, waiting until the last day to offer salary arbitration and not signing renewable players allowed me to finally sign free agents. You have to make sure to offer renewable players contracts before the deadline so you don't lose them. Then once the deadline gets here to offer arbitration to do it then you have to.I try and do the things that the thread tells me to do and for some reason I still can't sign free agents.
