CCM Trading for player with one year left
Apparently, I did not know this before making this trade, but I had traded for Aaron Hernandez in my CCM, and he had one year left. I thought I would have the chance to resign him in the offseason, but his name never showed up, and I lost him to free agency. I've read there is a little work around this problem by simply cutting the player, then resigning him, and therefore letting me have the option of resigning him during the offseason or franchise tag him. If that is the case, can I cut the player, and resign him the same week or does the week have to be advanced before I can resign him?Tags: None -

Re: CCM Trading for player with one year left
This is incorrect. I traded for Vontae Davis in year 2 of my new Falcons CCM and it won't let me resign him as he has one year left on his deal. I did cut him and resigned him and in that week and the week after he still does not show up in "resign players".
Unless you meant to cut and resign the guy towards the end of the season?Comment

Re: CCM Trading for player with one year left
Did the player already fail a contract renegotiation with his current team?
I ran into this issue after trading for Aaron Hernandez in my CCM; the Patriots' owner failed to re-sign him, and I made a trade offer. I was never given the option to attempt to re-sign Hernandez and had to fend off bidders in free agency for him (to the tune of a $98 Million contract, lol).
If the player hadn't yet failed to renegotiate his contract, there may be a chance that one can re-sign him. You all may know better than me to this end, however; I'm simply relaying my personal experience on the topic.Comment

Re: CCM Trading for player with one year left
This is one of the faults of madden 13. I had the same thing with Sean Smith and the comissh in our league seen that it was a problem and people were giving huge deals/ players to get these deals to work then in the offseason another team would step in take the player away. Our comissh actually made a rule that you can post what player you traded for in there last year and they are "untouchable" during free agent signing period, no other teams can bid on them. Its not perfect because some players will not want to sign on that team due to schemes, and also people can offer some low salaries but ea should have made it where you can negotiate the contract when you trade for a player so its the only fair way in a sense. Hope that was clearComment

That is a great question that I do not know the answer to. I traded for Davis in week 1 before the games were played so I do not know if the Colts tried to resign him or not.Did the player already fail a contract renegotiation with his current team?

Re: CCM Trading for player with one year left
I just cut a LT I traded for with one year left on his contract in week 10. I than immediately went into the Free Agent section and signed him again. I will now be able to re-sign him after the season is over, right before FA starts. This is true of all Free Agents you sign to one year deals once the preseason starts for a given season. This is incorrect. Man, I wish I had known this before! I traded for Patrick Peterson and KJ Wright, giving up a first round pick for PP and lost them in free agency. There's no guarantee I would have been able to resign them, but at least I would have had one chance without having to out-bit other teams. My Madden '13 CCM

How the heck did you get Patrick Peterson? Ive tried giving up studs and 2 firsts, and 3 high first round picks and no go. Sucks to lose the best corner in the game, especially with what you probably had to give up to get him.Man, I wish I had known this before! The only reason I found this out was because I traded for Taylor Mays, and didnt realize he was gone til the preseason when I was doing my depth chart and noticed I had no SS. I didnt realize he was gone cause he never showed up to resign.Comment

It was actually a fairly simple trade. I had a young offensive lineman who was rated in the low 80s, and the Cardinals had a need at that position. I gave him and a first rounder up for PP.How the heck did you get Patrick Peterson? Ive tried giving up studs and 2 firsts, and 3 high first round picks and no go. It was a worthwhile trade, since I had 4/5 first rounders that year. The Falcons signed him up to a huge 6 year deal, paying him 18M$ his final season. Since I already had two ~85 OVR CBs under 25 with excellent man-to-man coverage, I wasn't willing to overpay for him.
That was probably my best CCM GM wise, I left the Raiders with 12 first round draft picks and 20M$ of cap room after getting to the divisional round three years in a row. Both my offensive and defensive line had starters above 85 OVR, no player on the team was lower than 80 and I had no player in their 30s.My Madden '13 CCM

Re: CCM Trading for player with one year left
I've a real issue with getting players who have one year left and will almost always choose not to take players in the contract position. I've had issues coming to close of season negotiating and finding I utterly fail to sign people even with mega deals.
Picked up Seth Reves and he promptly left the team at season end and I wasn't able to resign. Gave up a 1st round for him. Yes I did win the SB that season but it was still annoying.
Best thing to do is check out the salaries of players you want to see what contract time is left on them. For me if it 1 then I will walk the other way - unless I have spare players/pick and a real needComment

Re: CCM Trading for player with one year left
After literally just testing this out, you CAN re-sign players with one year left on their contract without releasing them but yes, there's a catch.
The player you trade for has to be done BEFORE you go into the pre-season. If you look at the top right of the screen during the off-season, it says 2012 off-season (even though it should say 2013) and thus, isnt part of the following season.
Once FA period began, I traded three 7th round draft picks (two from 2013 and one from 2014) to CLE for QB Colt McCoy who has one year left on his contract. I advanced through the rest of FA and the Draft. After the Draft, it tells you about your rookie signings. Once you advance from here to the pre-season, you'll notice that it now says 2013 pre-season and because you're now in the current season, any trades for players with one year left on their contracts cant be re-signed once you start the regular season.
Right now, im at week one of the regular season and in the re-signings menu. QB Colt McCoy is listed and can be extended. I have not tested what happens at the end of the season and you enter the re-signing period but from what I have seen, as long as you dont end negotiations at any point during the season, you'll be able to re-sign any potential FA.
Long story short - if you're going to trade for a player with one year left on his contract, do so BEFORE you enter the pre-season. You'll avoid the possibility of losing the player you traded for and seeing what some of you gave up, I would be pissed off too.
On a somewhat related side note -
If you're going to release a player in the off-season who has signing bonus money, also do it BEFORE you enter the pre-season. Doing this will give you the total penalty amount for that current season. Once you enter pre-season, the cap hit gets spread over two years.
Obviously, its up to the player how he wants to play but I personally prefer taking whatever the cap hit is in one off-season to get it out of the way as quickly as possible.
Trading away a player with bonus money works the same way. If you trade away the player during the FA period, Draft period or Draft recap period, the entire penalty amount gets subtracted from your cap room for that upcoming season. If done in pre-season, the penalty gets spread out over two seasons.
Hope this helps.

Re: CCM Trading for player with one year left
Im stuck in this situation as well. I traded a 1st a 2nd and a young stud wr Ross Lake for Janoris Jenkins. Does anyone know if you can franchise tag the player in the resign period before free agency starts? Im goint to be very unhappy if he goes to FA.Comment

Re: CCM Trading for player with one year left
No, he will not show up in the re-sign screen so you cant franchise him. You have to release him, than resign him right away from the FA screen before the season ends or he will become a FA.Comment
