Stupid question looking for a stupid answer (re: MiLB)

I'm not sure what goes into the whole business side of the game, both with MLB and the MLBPA. However, I worked in the minor leagues many years ago, and we did all sorts of business with the MiLB national folks regarding merchandise etc. Obviously SECA had to do the same thing to get the real logos etc into the game.

Question is, why couldn't they strike a deal with the MiLB stakeholders to add the minor league players into the game? There's got to be an easy answer, but I've never seen it discussed.

Certainly would save a lot of time and effort by a lot of dudes this time of year.

    Thanks

They would have to strike a deal with each MiLB player, individually... or all-inclusively with the MiLB Player's Association; Which doesn't exist.

If that was the case, then they (in theory) could solicit each player to replicate their likeness. There are only 1800 or so players. You could hire some high school kids to send that paperwork out..wouldn't even cost you that much.

That would be a lot of work, actually. Some unification would definitely be needed... I'm sure a number of these players would try to capitalize more than others.

Sort of on topic, here is an article arguing both sides for a minor league PA/union.

Awesome. Suspected it was a "not worth it" type of deal, but never really heard specifics.

Always think of that when so many guys around here put in so much time and effort. Especially with a baseball game like this, where DEPTH of minor league teams are so important.

I guess it's good they give players/communities the chance to edit them, so could certainly be worse.

Do you realize how much that would cost?
If each player wanted $1000 for their likeness, youre talking about $1.8M just to get the minors in the game that the OSFM does for free.

Even if they only wanted $500, thats still almost $1M.
            Its not worth it.

Technically, guys NOT on the 40 man roster are property of the Minor League Clubs. (ie - When they get called up/added their contact is "purchased".) That said, couldn't each TEAM or even the PCL/EL/TL/IL sell those likenesses with permission?

"because it's too expensive" may very well be a good reason why...but would like to know the specifics around it.

I am sure a ton of players would love to be in this game for free, but also sure a few would certainly want some $. But if you just sent out a release form to everyone, in theory whoever said yes could be included in the game.

No offense to SCEA, but they have their hands full just trying to get ratings
& likeness right for Major Leaguers, add any more work to their full load
& maybe the game itself suffers?
OSFM makers are extremely qualified & know their stuff to make a very
good representation of Triple A, Double A, & Single A minors.
I only wish each of 'em could get an advance copy of the game so they could get a head start on making the rosters.

Yeah...although it sounds easy "in theory"(as the op said)...in reality, I;m sure its a lot more work than it's worth for SECA. I'm sure they would have to hire a full on minor league dev team just to get it done and out on time. So while I, and I'm sure 99.9% of the people here would LOVE it...I just dont think its worth it for them

I don't see where people thinks this sounds easy in theory. So with 1800 players, not all are just going to sign a waiver allowing them to be in the game. A lot of the top prospects would have the power to negotiate for more. It would be tedious.... but lets say you get all 1800 to sign... now you have to add in all the addition player models and details. Then scout them extensively for accurate ratings... and then do this every year. In the time frame its more than just money they would pay out to these players, its all the resources where it actually gets expensive. It's not easy in theory. At all.

                              True.

So its OSFM for many years to come then.
