Re: how the hell do you steal
You have to hold L2 until the controller vibrates. But once you let go the runner takes off. So keep holding L2 until you are ready to actually go.Comment

Re: how the hell do you steal
This has never happened to me. ^^^
All I do is take a lead with L1, then press L2, I have never held it down, and the runner will take off when the pitch is thrownPlaystation Network:That70s_Gamer

Re: how the hell do you steal
Yeah you can do it either way, the hold option is just to give the user more control over when the runner takes off.

Re: how the hell do you steal
I posted this a while back, so I'm just coping and pasting...
I finally figured it out (thanks to the show nation message boards). The key to stealing with runners on 1st and 3rd is you have to wait until the pitcher selects his pitch and gets set.
On classic base running you...wait till pitcher is set then press circle (for runner on 1st) as you are holding circle press and release L2 to steal. You should feel the controller vibrate. Release all buttons and wait for the pitch. The runner will go. If you want to take a lead with runner on 1st just press L1 instead.
As for default base running (I haven't tried it yet) but if you go by what the manual says you should (again after the pitcher is set) move the left stick to the right and press/release L2. Controller should vibrate and runner should steal.
Hope this helps

Re: how the hell do you steal
This is the only one I agree with.
All I do is tap L1 for a lead and L2 for a steal. I can do this before, after or during a pitcher getting set.
There is no need to hold L2 or to wait for the pitcher to be set or to time your steal.
I have never had a problem with lead-off or steals.
I have noticed however, when using a logitech controller rather then the OEM sixaxis controller that sometimes I have to double tap for it to register.Last edited by Curahee; 05-27-2013, 09:09 AM.Comment

I never knew about the "Hold L2" method for more user control. Need to try that.

Re: how the hell do you steal
I'm using a Sony controller and sometimes have to double tap L1 for my lead off, other times a single tap will do it. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out if there is some sort of situational variable or if it is a timing issue determining whether a single or double tap is required.
My biggest issue with it is the "sometimes" aspect. I'm never sure when it's going to happen. So, I have been picked off a few times due to the double tap when a single tap would have worked. It caused me to take the two extra step lead unintentionally, and as soon as I realized it, I was pressing R1 to reduce to the lead, but the pitcher whipped around and nailed me.Comment

Re: how the hell do you steal
Playing Classic I take a lead then hold L2 and release it when I want the runner to go. I believe you can steal a bit earlier that way.Comment

How do you steal sencond base when there are runners on 1st and 3rd?Comment

I think holding L2 gives you the option to "early steal", or basically go when you want. Going early is fine against a human opponent, but against the cpu they always step off and pick you.
I too just press L2 it vibrates and I let go, I never had to hold the button.

Re: how the hell do you steal
I think there's some confusion here.
For the user determined jump you hold L2 until the moment you want the runner to take off, then release. The release indicates the jump.
This is not obligatory. You can still use the old method for stealing by or easing and releasing L2 at any time.Comment
