    Hitting tips

    Hi,

I am having problems getting solid base hits or solid contact with the ball.

I play on PRO slider set. Which is the "normal" swing type with the game. I find myself using contact swings most of the time and power only during hitter counts.

I also use the left stick to try to influence the hit location - righties to right field; lefties to left field.

Could this be the cause? I get a lot of weak pop ups and/or ground ball outs.

If you limit your swings to your players hot zones and pitch types he can handle you will make better contact.

Maybe so. For a right handed hitter I aim the left stick to left field to pull the ball. Vice versa for lefty s. I only go opposite field if I'm late on the swing or I aim the left stick in that direction. I make pretty good contact doing this. If this doesn't work I would up contact slider until it feels right.

I cannot even think about limiting my swings to their hot zones! It all happens too fast. I have a hard time just swinging at good pitches. usually I chase the bad and lay off the good pitches.

........I am also probably hurting my chances by trying to go the opposite field....I'll give those suggestions a shot.

          Thanks!

Try only using the Rstick button and don't use the Lstick to aim. First step "Grass Hopper' is to let you work on contact timing. Once this becomes more natural then you can concentrate on aiming and timing/contact

Lay off the power swing. You'll get plenty of strong contact with just the contact swing if you practice your timing. I think the power swing is the problem here.

Which is the contact and which is the power swing?

You get a contact swing if you just flick up on the right stick. You get a power swing if you flick down (you'll see your guy jerk back for a big swing), then back up.

I usually use just the right stick and only get about 4 hits a game or so. Is it better to aim the stick to get better contact?

I have no basis for comparison, but I use the left stick along with the right stick. I do just fine. It depends on your sliders as well as skill level.

To tell the truth I've almost forgotten completely about batting with the left stick at all. The cool thing about this game is you'll notice most of the things real life hitters must keep in mind apply equally to the game. So look for fastballs, leave the low pitches that might result in a double-play, hammer the high ones, be defensive when you have 2 strikes, and don't be afraid to take the first pitch!

                          Re: Hitting tips

I wasn't hitting anything until I started using smooth contact swings. I don't flick the right stick up quickly, but rather gently glide it up, and hold it until the end of the follow through. I've gotten much better hits this way. Smooth contact is the key.

Also, Batter's Eye helps immensely. If you know ahead of time where the pitch is going to be and what type of pitch it is, you'll read a lot better. Off-speed pitches to either side of the strike zone are usually balls. The entire box will flash if it's going to be in the middle of the strike zone.

                          And yeah, timing is everything.
