Pitch Counts....
Anyone have a problem getting realistic pitch counts? I can never get a guy to have PC issues before the 7th-8th inning, regardless of how much I'm getting shelled or not... If anyone has suggestions on how to remedy this please let me know. I use my own sliders, that arent far off of default settings.Tags: None -
Re: Pitch Counts....
Well, my first question would be whether or not you are walking any batters. If you're getting shelled, but you're not walking anybody, then that may be a sign you're not being very careful against the cpu hitters, which in turn is a sign that you're not very afraid. Perhaps it may be time to adjust sliders and turn up the skill level a notch.
More cautious pitching will take you deeper into counts while issuing some walks and give you more realistic pitch counts. -
Re: Pitch Counts....
I rarely walk anyone on Pulse pitching and ive never gotten shelled either. I switched to class yesterday and i walked a few but i still rarely get into any trouble with pitch counts... Fister(my pitcher) gave up 4 ER 7 innings, i think he walked 3 guys and not sure how many hits... He only threw 88 pitches which is really low considering how many guys he let on base via hit/walk etc... I think this is due to so many 1st pitch outs by the CPU... Now switching to classic has helped a bit, but still not there yet.Well, my first question would be whether or not you are walking any batters. Re: Pitch Counts....
I've had games where I'm dominating but still reach 100 pitches in 5 innings because of a lot of full counts and walks... so there's definitely a solution out there.
More than anything I'm going to guess that the CPU isn't fouling enough balls.
Hitters (both CPU and yours) should be fouling off approximately half the time they make contact... so go to pitch analysis, go to Swing... subtract Missed... and divide that number by 2.
If your Foul count is nowhere near that number, that's going to have significant effects on pitch counts.Comment

Re: Pitch Counts....
I was actually looking into your sliders, liked what I saw but I felt wierd with analog... Although I did get good results the one game i played I believe. I did notice you foul ratings are pretty dang high, which does make sense as I feel that may be a problem as well.I've had games where I'm dominating but still reach 100 pitches in 5 innings because of a lot of full counts and walks... so there's definitely a solution out there.

Re: Pitch Counts....
Good thread.
I almost never walk anyone and I rarely give up more than 3-4 runs. I play with LAD, so my starters are good, but still.
I'm usually at 80 pitches or so into the 7th inning.Comment

Re: Pitch Counts....
I am playing with the Royals so I have some decent (not great) starters and I get pretty mixed results depending on who I am playing. If I am playing the Rangers, Red Sox, Tigers, etc.. I have a hard time getting my starters through the sixth inning without 90-100 pitches. Their batters seem to lay off the bad pitches and foul off a lot of two strike pitches and this seems very realistic to me.
On the other hand if I am playing teams like the Astros or Twins my starters seem to have very low pitch counts and only get taken out if they are somehow getting shelled.Comment

Re: Pitch Counts....
You should also be aiming pretty much strictly at corners, a problem with the game is you can be way to effective way to often with pitches that catch alot of the zone.
Pitchers aim at corners almost every pitch so you should be too, doing this especially with pulse or classic interfaces should up pitch counts. Also besides your fouls being to low its possible the CPU is making to much contact period.
My last game I had to pull Pettite after 4.2 innings even though he had only allowed 1 run in a 1-0 game as he had two runners on and to high a pitch count so its just a matter of finding what works.
This is the hardest thing to get down when using other peoples sliders as most people think they should be aiming in the zone and it should be missing enough to walk guys/raise pitch counts. However your pitches shouldn't be missing by that much, you just shouldn't be aiming at the fat parts of the zone.

Re: Pitch Counts....
to remedy this you could change a few sliders. I think the foul slider is fine at default.
every batter you face should present a realistic challenge, especially in cpu/ai scoring situations.
-the game is strike out heavy in the first place.
if you want a high pitch count
- lower your pitcher control
- and raise the cpu contact slider. make sure it is higher than the pitcher control.
-make it extra challenging by lowering your consistency slider also.
youll get more intense batter/pitcher battles, especially with the better ranked hitters.
it should eventually lead you to actually walking batters.
as a pitcher you should get punished for throwing bad pitches.Comment

Re: Pitch Counts....
I have had this same problem and have been looking for a solution. I like what HighCompPct said a few posts back about aiming at the corners and not the fat parts of the plate. I may lower pitcher control and consistency and use that strategy.
I think this is a problem though because you are not supposed to want to walk batters. I think SCEA should somehow try to fix this.Comment

Re: Pitch Counts....
Honestly I have no problem of getting realistic pitch counts. My knuckleballer ace keeps on have games with 100 or more pitches, but the 100th pitch for my knuckleballer ace usually, if not always comes after the in later than the 5th inning.Comment

Re: Pitch Counts....
I'm thinking my problem has been sample size.
In my last 3-4 games I've been at 80 pitches through 5 or so. Heck, I had an off day with Kershaw and hit 107 pitches through 5 2/3.
Some days they just can't hit the broad side of a barn.
And some days you just have to pitch around hot hitters or have to walk a guy to put yourself in DP situations, etc.Comment

Re: Pitch Counts....
With Bobheads sliders i been getting in a lot more 3-2 counts i think boosting up the foul frequency helps tonsComment
