Why are ratings even necessary?
Wouldn't it benefit 2k and the roster creators so much more if instead of a rating from 25-99 or a tendency from 0-100, the rosters would be purely statistic based, on formulas alone provided by the most detailed of advanced player tracking mechanisms, especially the new Courtvision camera? So instead of shot 3pt, real 3pt% from all ranges and all different types of coverage would be used to truly create an objective roster. Thoughts? He wAs NUMber ONe!

Re: Why are ratings even necessary?
Yes that would be amazing, but i think 2k is busy getting another rapper to executive produce 2k14..
The current system is good if you download some rosters, otherwise the official 2k ones are a complete joke. Tony parker 80 3pt rating and Harden 81; just one of the great errors in these ratings
But your idea would be awesomeNBA 2k11 played better than this s*@t -

Wasn't the ratings relatively accurate in Live? I would presume that you'll be able to keep a separate roster file.Comment

Re: Why are ratings even necessary?
The issue would be taking ALL creativity away from the USER. For example if 2k did this, how would anyone be able to make another Roster project. You would be stuck with whatever Stock Roster that 2k Gave you. And stats dont always translate over to the Game engine.NBA 2k18 Roster:

Re: Why are ratings even necessary?
I a little bit agree with the guy above me... as for this quote, what would cheessers say when they miss 3 wide open mid-range jump shots in a row (with a decent shooter)Wouldn't it benefit 2k and the roster creators so much more if instead of a rating from 25-99 or a tendency from 0-100, the rosters would be purely statistic based, on formulas alone provided by the most detailed of advanced player tracking mechanisms, especially the new Courtvision camera? In real life it happens all of the time. People who want a videogame to reward them for being open and not a true simulation would be pisssedddddd. lolI used to put important things hereComment

Re: Why are ratings even necessary?
While the implementation may not be perfect, it could leave open options such as changing a player's statistics in edit player. It would also greatly benefit classic roster makers, as the base stats would be all that was needed to implement a full classic roster. So in that sense I think it helps the roster maker. Isn't the point of editing to get players to play like their real-life counterparts? He wAs NUMber ONe!

Re: Why are ratings even necessary?
I see alot of holes in the ratingless arguement. There was a game in the past that went according to stats, NBA Shootout series and I remember Eldridge Recasner was lethal becaue of his shooting percentage and Steve Smith couldn't hit the broad side of a barn wuth his J. Statistics never tell the whole story. Fg% makes Iverson look like he cant shoot and no talent big men point machines. What would you do with rookies. Colledge stats do not transfer to the NBA at all. How would you know who is clutch? Hersey Hawkins was a great statistical shooter but I never remember him taking a game winning shot. I also agree with VTCRB. It would be hell to create a player. Imagine the amount of data you would have to enter. It would also meant that you would have to inflate your stats to improve as a player. I also wonder how regression would happen. If you have 10 seasons of great statistics, what would slow or stop your star status? It seems great for the crowd that plays online and plays single games against each other but for the association crowd like me, I don't see it working.Comment

Re: Why are ratings even necessary?
The Stats and Attributes dont have Nearly the effect on making players play like themselves as the Player Tendencies do. What the problem will be with Stats is Do they Translate over to the Game Engine? I have yet to find a game were stats translate smoothly into gameplay. I believe that a Stats would translate Smoother into Player Tendencies, as there is NO real fluctuation in those. All in all though I would rather still have the Attribute Ratings Numbers, I would actually like them to expand them. As alot of Roster Editors will say the MORE Customization Options we are given the better. While the implementation may not be perfect, it could leave open options such as changing a player's statistics in edit player. Re: Why are ratings even necessary?
The stats are not the entire equation. Things like courtvu and court vision are technologies nba teams use to track literally everything that goes on in a basketball game. From % on 3's after 2 left-handed dribbles on a pull-up to where a player spends the most time standing on an iso, these cameras are truly the next level of advanced nba analysisThe Stats and Attributes dont have Nearly the effect on making players play like themselves as the Player Tendencies do. Your comment might have held true five years ago, but the amount of data that they collect nowadays is scary.I see alot of holes in the ratingless arguement. At this point, what can they NOT track?
