UNF President Announces Football Team
Ospreys to play in FBS as an Independent

UNF President John Delaney tells great news to 17,000 students

(AP) Finally, it is here. The UNF Ospreys now have a football team. It took years of planning, begging, and fund-raising, but University President, John Delaney, signed the final contract allowing the Ospreys to not only create a team, but have them play in the FBS as well. Gone are the ever popular campus t-shirts that read "UNF Football: Still Undefeated," as UNF will join the FBS as Independent.

Delaney also announced the signing of the university's first football coach, Chuck Cruz. A relatively unknown person in the college football world, Cruz is actually an alumni of UNF. The 23-year-old, and now youngest coach in college football, is ready and eager to lead the team to their first victory.

While UNF has a field capable of hosting football games, Hodges Stadium, the Ospreys have worked out a deal with Shahid Khan, the owner of the city's professional NFL team, the Jacksonville Jaguars. UNF will work together with the Jaguars in efforts to boost ticket sales and avoid television blackouts and the Ospreys will play in the Jaguars' stadium, Everbank Field.

UNF boasts an endowment of $66.4 million and hosts approximately 17,000 students. The university was established in 1969.
