    Coach Contracts

Just a quick question on coach contracts. Do you definitely get sacked if you don't get the amount of wins stipulated in the contract.
I have just accepted the Tennessee Vols head coach role and they want 8 wins. They have just come off a 2-10 season and the schedule includes around 8 top 25 schools.
I'll hopefully make the 8 wins but it would seem incredibly harsh to sack me if I won 7 games.
    Any help appreciated.

No you won't get sacked... I'm assuming they gave you a 3-5 year contract?

You could potentially win only 3-4 games the first 2 years and the 3rd year if you won 9 games they would probably offer you an extension. I purposely tried to get sacked just to see what it would take, and trust me it is nearly impossible for a USER coach to get fired... I had a 5 year contract at Oregon State and I intentionally tried to lose nearly all my games. I went 4-8, 2-10, 5-7, 1-11 in my first 4 years of a contract that they wanted 8 wins a year. My 5th year I went 4-8 and they basically just didn't renew my contract.

Thanks for reply, think I'm on a five year deal. Takes a bit of the pressure off, did seem a bit harsh but having said that would like them to make it reasonably tough, guess its about finding the right balance. Thanks again

That's one thing I've wondered as this year there really don't seem to be contract goals like in years past.
