    MEET COACH DEZARON

In 2013, Ryne Dezaron became the hottest name in the college football coaching circles. At age 37, Dezaron came out of nowhere to help Coach Peterson guide the Boise State Broncos to a National Title berth. Dezaron used his gift of Total Recall to memorize the BSU playbook and bring back the offense that had disappeared when Robert Prince took over as the Boise State OC. That Offense went on to lead the nation in scoring as well as lead the nation in yards gained and passing yards as well.

Now in 2014, Coach Dezaron must decide what team will help build his legacy. 9 teams lined up for his services, but there could only be one..

Re: The Coaching Career of Ryne Dezaron (NCAA 14)

The University of Eastern Michigan has found their new Head Coach. After Ron English left after a 3-9 finish, to take the DC job in South Carolina. The Eagles were left with a opening. From Day 1 they knew who they wanted, the only problem was so did 7 other schools including Utah State who as recently as 2012 were a Conference Champion.

For EMU, the Eagles since 1990 was 6-6 in 2011 after going 0-12 in 09 and 2-10 in 2010. But rather then build off that .500 record, EMU instead went back to their losing ways going 2-10 in 2012 as well. All of these records and losing ways came playing in the Metro Atlantic Conference. Well with a new coach comes a major change. The Eagles are headed to C-USA.

Last year Conference USA took a huge hit as most teams left for the newly formed American Conference (once know as the Big East). The C-USA scrambled and came away with 7 teams, with 4 of those coming from the state of Florida, (FIU,FAU,UCF,USF) and the other 3 coming from Texas (UTSA,Texas State, and North Texas).

Today they added 3 new schools, this time all coming from the state of Michigan. Along with EMU, C-USA is also bringing in Western Michigan as well as Central Michigan, bringing the league total to 10 teams.

      Coach Dezaron-
I am extremely excited to start my new chapter in my coaching career at EMU, and can't think of a better way to do it, then to have the school start fresh in a new conference, however I am really excited that WMU and CMU are coming along as we can keep our school rivalries alive.
      THE RIPPLE EFFECT OF CHANGE

With the MAC losing 3 teams to C-USA, they moved quick to fill some holes adding former member Ball State, as well as UMass and Western Kentucky of the American Conference. All 3 teams struggled to compete last season and will join the MAC East with Temple,Buffalo and Old Dominion and compete against the 6 Ohio schools leaving the MAC at 12
      teams.

The American Conference was hit hard by the changes, as top schools, Northern Illinois and Cincinnati left for the Big Ten, and the 3 mentioned above for the MAC, the AC was left adding just 2 teams in Navy and Army to bring their total to 9 teams, as Arkansas State and Georgia State also moved on to the Sunbelt, joining the Louisiana and Alabama Schools.

The Big Ten is now the Big 15. Last year they added Notre Dame and Iowa State, however the Irish decided Independent life was what they wanted most and jumped ship. Now with Cincinnati and Northern Illinios in the mix, the 2 new schools will join the Leaders Division with OSU,PSU, Illinois,Northwestern, Purdue and Indiana , well the Legends Division will be made up of Iowa,Iowa State,Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Michigan State

The MWC, Pac-12 and Big 12 all shared rolls in teams on the move. BSU coming off their National Title game, is moving to the Pac-12 to replace Colorado, well the Buffs are head back to the Big 12 to replace UTEP who was a 1 year member. The Miners will head to the MWC along with Air Force who had a 1 year hiatus to give the MWC 16 teams total.

The SEC remains unchanged as well as the ACC after their big add last season.

I will post a complete look of the conferences through the year.

          MEET YOUR 2014 EMU EAGLES

          QUARTERBACK

RS SR Tyler Benz (84) will go into the year as the starter. Benz saw action in 2013 completing 45% of his passes for 656 yards with 5 TD's and 7 INT. He also carried the ball 69 times for 255 yards and 3 scores, giving him the ability to make plays with his feet as well.

SO Brogan Roback (83) will redshirt this season, giving Coach Dezaron a year to allow Roback to learn the offense. Roback played well last year as a true freshman for the Eagles throwing for 1411 yards 10 TD and 13 INT.

With Roback reshirting, this leaves the backup duties to a pair of Redshirt Freshman. Reginald Bell (78) is a 6'3 dual threat QB who can make plays with both his feet and arm. Bell could and will see action this year as Coach Dezaron will look to see if maybe he can emerge as a 4 year starter.

Brandon Bossard (76) is more like Roback, a pocket passer who will look to make plays with his arm. He will serve as the 3rd string QB this season as he too learns the new playbook, but could challenge Roback and Bell for he starting job/backup spot next season.

          RUNNINGBACK

SR Bronson Hill (84) returns as the starter, after putting up over 1000 yards last season (1182) and scoring 6 TD's. Bronson also is a good receiving threat out of the backfield as well as he had 28 rec for 405 yards and 3 scores. At 5'10 and 210lbs he has the size to be a everydown back for the Eagles.

RS SO Juwan Lewis (75), RS JR Ryan Brumfield (73), and RS JR Tyler Allen (67) will serve as the backups. Lewis was the only player to see PT in 2013 and he finished with just 9 carries for 31 yards. Brumfield is expected to be the #1 return man this season, as he is considered more of a speed back.

          FULLBACK

RS FR Jacob King (55) has been trust into the starting job because no one else could do it. At 6'2 and 206lbs he has the size to become a solid FB, and with his combo of speed (84) and hands (69) he could be a great outlet for Benz on short yardage situations.

FR Vince Cade (45) played halfback in high school but was moved to FB this spring. He will redshirt as he looks to improve on his blocking skills. At 5'11 and 205 lbs, Hill could be a future goaline back.

          TIGHT END

After having Gabe Linehan win the Mackey award last year in Coach D's Offense, 6'3 SR Tyresse Russell (75) is excited to see what happens in 2014. With just 9 rec for 93 yards last year, Russell will look to be a big target for the Eagles QB's in the redzone.

JR C. Menet (68) and RS SO C. Gardner (65) will serve as the #2 and #3 TE this season. Neither player saw action last season, but with Coach Dezaron employing several 3 TE sets, both should see the field this year.

          WIDE RECEIVER

This group of players took a huge hit when Demarius Reed was murdered last season. Reed was viewed as a starter going into 2014. With Reed gone, 6'2 JR Dustin Creel (75) and 5'10 RS JR Jay Jones (70) are expected to start, with JR Quincy Jones (70) at 6'3 210lbs expected to be a huge threat in the redzone.

RS SO Mitchell Dawkins (69), RS JR Matt Brown (68) and RS SR Julius Shelby (68) are expected to provide solid depth and should see the field often as Coach Dezaron likes to use 5 WR's often and rotate different players on different packages.

RS SO Efe Scott-Emuakpo (70) has decided to transfer to EMU for the 2015 season from Ball State. He will sit out this season. Emuakpo has the best combo of size (6'3) and speed (91) of anyone on the team and could be a potential starter in 2015. The Eagles will also have FR Anthony Bennett (62) who is redshirting this season.

          O-LINE

The Eagles return a starting unit that has 5 Seniors. LT B. McFadden (80), LG J. Woods (75), C J. Erbes (66), RG C. Allison (83), RT L. Hansen (71). This unit will need to step up and be ready to play as they will be key in helping Coach Dezaron establish his high scoring offense.

FR LT Jeff James (73) was the #1 recruit to sign with the Eagles this past season, and didn't until Coach Dezaron had agreed to come to EMU. A instate kid from Grand Ledge Michigan, James is just the type of player Coach D wants to build his team around. By redshirting this season, James will have a chance to be a 4 year starter, starting next season. Joining James on redshirt will be will FR C's J. Adkins (66) and Z. Robbins (66), FR RG A. Allen (62)

Backing up the Starting Unit will be RS FR LT D. Brown (67), RS JR's LG K. Collins (69) and G. Parker (62), as well as RS SO RG J. Hurcombe (73) and RS SO RT A. Wylie (66)

          D-LINE

RS JR Omar McFarlane (71) will start at LE, after registering 10 TFL and 3.5 sacks last season, well RS SR J. Rich (64) and RS SO J. Kincaid (68) will rotate at RE. SR's C. Maughmer (76) and T. Linser (69) will start in the middle at DT. Linser like McFarlane also had 3.5 sacks in 2013.

JR A. Pipkins (65) will the top backup at DT, well RS FR D. Powell (62) will backup at DE.

          FR DE's B. Duncan (62), B. Johnson (63), C. Holland (62) along with DT's M. Moss (63) and S. Harris (62) will all redshirt this season.

          LINEBACKER

JR I. Spearman (68), SO L. Robinson (70) and RS SR T. Brown (72) are the starting unit, well RS FR's D. Williams (63),and D. Dunlap (62), along with RS SO's A. Zappne (67), H. Matt (67) and A. Houston (65) provide solid depth. FR Josh Woods (62) will redshirt this season.

          DEFENSIVE BACKFIELD

5'8 SR CB Darius Scott (77), SR FS K. Johnson (75), and SR P. Cotton (81) are viewed as the leaders of this unit. Scott led the team with 4 INT's last year including 3 returned for TD's. Cotton also recored 2 INT's well also deflecting 5 pass's, with with 25 Tackles is the returning leader in that catagory. 5'9 CB K. Bryant (72) will join them in the starting lineup, well RS JR CB's D. Moore-Young (70), K. Strange (69) and RS SR SS M. Swaim (71) provide solid depth. JR CB M. Smith (67) and RS FR FS D. Pace (69) will also see P.T. this season.

6'3 FR Geoff Jones is the only one from this unit red shirting this season. He is listed as a FS, but with both Cotton and Swaim graduating, Jones could move to SS and be a 4 year starter unless the Eagles can land someone this year in recruiting.

JR Dylan Mulder (81) returns as the kicker this season after connecting on 17/23 FG's last year (74%) including a 46 yarder. He was also 100% in EP's and had 9 Touchbacks on Kickoffs.

FR Johnny Cox (63) comes to take over the punting duties. A 2* prospect out of St Charles Illinois, Cox will need to work on his leg strength and accuracy (64 in both) to keep the job for all 4 years.

          Coach Dezaron-
I am pretty excited about this team. Benz has the talent to be a much better QB then he has shown. However as much as I am looking forward to helping him this season lead us to some Wins, I am even as excited about next season as the 3 returning QB's will all have 3 years of eligibility to showcase what they can do for us moving forward. Obviously both Roback and Bell have different advantages. Roback will be able to sit up in the press box and learn from watching, well Bell will learn on the sidelines and the field, as we look to get him some P.T. this season. Bossard provies us great depth, but I have already made it known it's okay if he chooses to transfer after this season or next. I am really excited to see Hill in action. He proved he can be a workhorse last season and I believe he could improve on those #'s this season. We have a solid O-Line and we have some key players on Defense. Overall I see this team capable of winning some games. Will we win 10 and win the C-USA. No I have my doubts. It's always hard the 1st year with a new team that's learning a new offense, but we will be better then 3 wins and I could see us winning 6-7 games and maybe make a low tier bowl game.

            2014 PRESEASON NEWS

After watching Boise State make it to the National Championship game, and play a rematch with their Week 1 loss to Washington, I am not sure how 2014 could be any better. Maybe a 10 win Eastern Michigan season

Well Conference Realignment and all the Coaching changes made news this spring, let's take a look at the top news heading into the fall, as we get ready for opening kickoff of the 2014 season.

            TOP-25

Ohio State lost to Michigan in Week 15 and then again in the Big Ten Title game missing out on their chance for a 2013 National Title. Now in 2014 the Buckeyes are starting #1. Can Michigan do it again as they are scheduled to meet up once again in Week 15.

Virginia Tech feels like the BCS robbed them of a spot in the National Title. They failed to make it to the ACC Title game in 2013, but were #3 in the BCS rankings going into the Championship week. However when Alabama upset #1 South Carolina and Washington beat UCLA in the Pac-12 title game, the Hokies were jumped in the rankings leaving them out of the game. Now they start #2, but with a Week matchup against #18 Notre Dame, their season could be over before it gets started.

The 2013 National Champion Wasington Huskies will start 2014 at #3. However with new coordinators on both Offense and Defense and a schedule that now includes #20 BSU as well as #17 USC, #15 UCLA and #4 Oregon, the Huskies could have a hard time repeating.

The Oregon Ducks made a huge coaching change in the offseason after losing 4 games in 2013. Still loaded with talent and the ability to score, the Ducks will start the year at #4.

#5 Texas A&M, #6 Alabama, #7 South Carolina and #8 Florida all have the talent to be playing for a National Title. Problem is they all play in the SEC and end of beating each other, keeping any of them of getting there.

#9 Michigan has a pretty interesting schedule to start the year, not playing a Top-25 program until Week 11 when they face instate rival Michigan State. However with games in Week 1 against new Big Ten Cincinnati, and a Week 2 matchup with Miami FL, it won't be a cake walk.

#10 Florida State rounds out the Top-10. If they can beat #2 V.T. In Week 3 and #8 Florida in Week 14, then the Seminoles could put themselves in the Title talk, but those are big if's.

            THE REST OF THE TOP-25

            #11 STANFORD
            #12 TEXAS
            #13 NORTH CAROLINA
            #14 CLEMSON
            #15 UCLA
            #16 OKLAHOMA
            #17 USC
            #18 NOTRE DAME
            #19 GEORGIA
            #20 BOISE STATE
            #21 IOWA
            #22 LOUISVILLE
            #23 MISSOURI
            #24 OLE MISS
            #25 MICHIGAN STATE

            MANZIEL FOR HEISMAN?

Johnny Football passed for 2927 yards with 28 TD's and 7 INT's, well rushing for 912 yards and 6 scores, but it still wasn't good enough to repeat at the Heisman winner.

This year he is back for his Junior season. Looking for a National Title and 1 more Heisman trophy before taking his show to the pros. However he will face some tough competition as SO QB Jameis Winston (FSU) is looking to improve on his 2795 yards, 31 TD's and 13 INT's he threw as a Freshman. Let us not also forget that like Manziel, Winston also makes plays with his feet as he rushed for 960 yards and 7 scores.

Both QB's will also be challenged by 3 RB's. UConn's SR Lyle McCombs will look to improve on his 1454 yards and 15 TD's on the ground, plus his 536 yards and 6 scores receiving.

Alabama's JR TJ Yeldon also had a big year last year rushing for 1511 yards and 11 scores, well adding another 3 scores and 200 yards on receptions. he starts the year #4 in the voting.

Round out the Top-5 preseason vote getters is South Carolina's Mike Davis. The JR had 1343 yards and 15 scores last season on the ground, and will look to improve on those #'s again this year.

            CONFERENCE USA OUTLOOK

It appears that it's going to be a battle between UCF and USF once again for the Conference Crown. UCF won it last year going 8-4 Overall by 7-1 within the conference. Well USF went 9-3, their loss to the Knights kept them form winning the title.

UCF looks on paper to be the inside favorite again as they return QB B. Bortles who threw for 2982 yards along with 32 TD's and just 8 INT's. They also return their 1000 yard rusher in Stevie Johnson (1048 yds and 12 TD's), as well as WR R. Hall (59 rec 890 yards and 8 TD's).

Western Michigan played Toledo in the MAC Championship last season winning 9 games. This year the Broncos will start the year as the #3 ranked C-USA team, however they will do it with a new QB at the helm in SR Zach Wynn who is also the returning leading rusher as well. Wynn threw for 425 yards and 1 TD in 2013. With just 69 yards on the ground, the Broncos will use a pair of RS FR in Fabian Johnson (70) and G. Galloway (70) to lead their attack this year.

Well WMU is picked to finish #3, the EMU Eagles are picked to finish #9 out of #10 teams, with only UTSA picked to finish worse.

Between WMU and EMU we see FIU picked #4, North Texas #5, FAU, #6, CMU #7 and Texas State #8

EMU'S BRONSON HILL NAMED TO 1ST TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE

Bronson Hill enters CUSA as one of the top runners in the conference. With 1182 yards (5.1 Avg) and 6 scores last season on the ground and another 400 yards and 3 score from the air. Hill will look to finish out his college career on a high note. Joining Hill on the 1st Team All-Conference is SR RG C. Allison.

EMU however did have 6 player named to the 2nd Team, including 5 Defensive starters (DT's C. Maughmer,T. Linser, OLB T. Brown, CB D. Scott and SS P. Cotton) as well a LT B. McFadden.

              EMU ANNOUNCES 2014 SCHEDULE

The Eagles will start out the Coach Dezaron/C-USA era with a bang as they will travel to play instate rival Western Michigan in Week 1. With the Michigan-Mac Trophy up for grabs, both teams will be looking to get 2014 started on a positive note.

The Eagles could take home the hardware in Week 2 as they then travel to take on Central Michigan. EMU then will face #25 Michigan State on the road in Week 3, before finally getting to play their 1st home game in Week 4 against UMass.

              Coach Dezaron-
It is our hopes every year to be able to schedule either Michigan or Michigan State. This year it happened to work with the Spartans in Week 3. I found it odd that the CUSA scheduling committee would have use play WMU and CMU in Week 1 and 2, but that's there call. As far as playing UMass in our home opener. We were just hoping to find a team in which we might be able to get a win. Georgia State couldn't make it work and neither could Idaho , so we went with the next best option
EMU will have a bye in Week 5 before heading to South Bend to take on the #18 Notre Dame Irish in Week 6 before then having 2 more byes in Week 7 and 8.

              Coach Dezaron-
We are excited about our opportunity to play the Irish. We wanted to beef up our strength of schedule (went from a F to a C minus when we added this game). I am not happy about having bye weeks 3 out of 4 weeks, but again it was part of the CUSA scheduling.
If the CUSA scheduling already had you scratching your head with their choices so far, it gets even crazier yet. After back to back byes, Eastern Michigan will travel to Florida to take on FAU and FIU in Week 9 and 10, before returning home to finish out the season with 5 straight home games (Week 11-North Texas, Week 12-UTSA, Week 13-USF, Week 14-Texas State, Week 15-UCF)

              Coach Dezaron-
I guess I should be happy about playing our last 5 games at home. If we can somehow pull out 3 wins (UMass, FAU, FIU) we could have a great chance at winning 6 games, and if we can manage a win over WMU or CMU and go undefeated at home, we could have 8 wins total. That would be a great start to our rebuilding project.

COACH DEZARON AND EMU TARGETS INSTATE KIDS IN REBUILDING PROJECT!!!

Wanting to spend as much time on the field with his current team and help them to better themselves to win more football games, Coach Dezaron and his staff, has targeted 18 of their 23 current recruits from inside the state of Michigan, including 3* HB Joathan Greene (rated #76 best RB) as well as 3* Michael Gatewood (rated #78). Greene is from Gladstone, well Gatewood comes from East Lansing.

All 18 players are rated as 3* prospects and 15 of the 18 had EMU listed as one of their Top-3 schools to start the season. The other 3 targeted players from Michigan might be harder to get, as Coach Dezaron has his sights on 4* Athlete Shaun Robinson of Clawson (Ranked #19), and 4* Athlete Brian Brown of Monroe (Ranked #20) as well as 4* DE Larry Allen of Wayne (ranked #10).

              Coach Dezaron-
We are really excited about both Robinson and Brown. Robinson we project as a WR, and Brown is a very athletic QB. Who would come in and challenge to be the starter next season.

                  WEEK 1

                  VS

                  GAME RECAP

The Broncos would open the game with a 18 play drive that would be capped off by a 2 yd TD pass from Z. Wynn to J. Ferguson to make it (7-0).

The Eagles would answer back though as RB Bronson Hill would score from 33 yds out to tie the game (7-7). Then with 28 seconds to play in the 1st Quarter, EMU would take the lead as D. Mulder kicks a 33 yd FG to make it (10-7).

Both teams would find the endzone twice in the 2nd Quarter behind solid rushing attacks. FR Fabian Johnson scored on 4 yd and 37 yds for the Broncos, well Hill scored two more times from 5 yds out to make it (24-21) with less then a minute to play in the half. QB T. Benz looking to make something happen in the final minute to spark his team going into the locker room, instead made a costly mistake that allowed WMU time for a 29 yd FG as the Broncos took tied the game (24-24) at the half.

Both teams Defense would finally show up in the 3rd Quarter, keeping both offenses out of the endzone, but EMU would manage a 34 yd FG to take the the lead (27-24) going into the 4th Quarter.

In the 4th Quarter, the Eagle D would continue to soar holding the Broncos scoreless and back to back series. With Bronson Hill on the sideline with a thigh bruise, SO J. Lewis would enter the game and give the Eagles Offense the spark they needed rushing 12 times for 66 yard including a 7 yd run that put EMU in the lead (34-24). After another huge defensive stop, the Eagles would again settle for a 32 yd FG by Mulder to put EMU up (37-24) with 5 minutes to play.

With the 13 point lead, Coach Dezaron put in RS FR QB R. Bell, and Bell would deliver completing 1 of his 2 pass attempts for 17 yds to CB D. Scott who was on the field lined up at WR., as well as rushing 3 times for 37 yds inlcuding a 23 yd gain that set up a 6 yd TD run.

                  FINAL SCORE EMU-44 WMU-24

                  Coach Dezaron after the game
"I was really impressed with how the team came out and played. Hill did a great job of pounding it in the endzone and Lewis did a really good job of filling in for him in the 4th. Bell showed me some things in the 4th, that make me believe he can be a huge part of this team this year and moving forward. I am excited to see some of the things we can come up with in the next few weeks. I think his ability to run really makes the Defense have to think. Speaking of Defense I was happy to see our "D" step up in the 2nd half. I must say I was starting to have some doubts after giving up 27 points in the 1st half, but they did a good job of making some big tackles to force WMU into 3rd down situations and they failed to deliver (2/9 22%). I would've loved to see more sacks and maybe a INT out of it, but Overall I was happy they just kept the ball out of the WR's hands. Wilson is probably one of the best WR's in the conference and he showed it tonight. Speaking of WR's I felt like ours did a great job, as did Russell. I feel like they made big plays when needed and Benz did a great job of spreading the ball all over the field. This was a great win for us..."

AROUND THE NATION RECAP OF WEEK 1

                    NO NATIONAL TITLE FOR YOU!!!!

The Biggest news in Week 1 was the #3 Huskies 31-27 loss to Hawaii. With the loss the Huskies drop to #17 in the Poll, most likely ending their chance at the repeat in the National Title game, unless they can go undefeated in the Pac-12.

The Huskies were not the only team who lost their chance for a repeat National Title spot. The #20 Boise State Broncos lost 52-49 in OT to #24 Ole Miss. With the loss BSU falls out of the Top-25 and without the ability to go undefeated in the MWC this year, it looks like the Broncos could be in for a tough year. On a positive note, SR WR Matt Miller did have 12 rec for 111 yds and 3 TD's in the loss.

                    #2 VS #18

Like UW and BSU, Virginia Teach also will have a tough time making it to a Final #1 or #2 ranking in the BCS as the Irish pull off the 38-28 upset win.

                    OTHER KEY GAMES

                    #1 OSU-31 Navy-17
                    #6 Alabama-42 West Viriginia-13
                    #9 Michigan-42 Cincinnati-10

                      WEEK 2 RECAP

                      (1-0) @ (0-1)

                      EAGLES GET THE WINGS CLIPPED

The Chippewas came in looking to turn things around after a Week 1 loss 38-13 to NC State, and they did it in a big way. As they put up 14 points in the 1st quarter, first scoring on a 38 yd fumble recovery by B. Serpa and then on a 1 yd TD pass form C. Kater to A. Flory.

EMU QB Tyler Benz would make amends for his 1st Quarter fumble by throwing 2 TD's in the 2nd Quarter to tie the game (14-14) as he finds M. Dawkins on a 19 yd post pattern, and then it D. Creel on a 31 yd Fly pattern.

When the Eagles "D" knocked CMU's starting QB C. Kater out of the game with 4 minutes to play in the half, Coach Dezaron thought it might be a good thing, but instead backup A. Nizak came in and threw a TD pass of 23 yds to give CMU the lead (21-14) and then after a Benz INT, it was Nizak again finding the endzone on a 6 yd T. Davis pass to put the Chippewas up (28-14) at the half.

The 2nd half would be even worse for the Eagles. QB Tyler Benz would open it up with his 2nd INT and 3rd Turnover of the game, leading to his benching and R. Bell entering the game. The play would also put the ball back in the hands of Nizak who this time made the play with his feet scoring from 5 yds out to increase the lead to (35-14). EMU would answer back as J. Lewis scores from 3 yds out to make it (35-21), but a fumble by R. Bell would end another scoring opportunity in the 3rd Quarter.

In the 4th Quarter, CMU would add to their lead first kicking a 33 yd FG (38-21) and then scoring on a 7 yd pass from Nizak to A. Garland to make it (45-29) with less then 3 minutes to play. In the final EMU drive, R. Bell would try and make amends for his earlier fumble by scoring from 12 yds out, but it was to late to little for the Eagles as they fall. Losing their chance at the outright ownership of the Michigan-Mac trophy.

                      FINAL SCORE CMU-45 EMU-29

                      Coach Dezaron after the loss-
"Of course it's disappointing. Nobody likes to lose, and even more nobody likes getting their butts kicked. Tonight we got our butts kicked. Their "D" shutdown our rushing attack and once they got the lead it forced us to go to the air, and Benz made some bad throws. It happens. The best thing we can do is put it in the back of our mind and move forward. We have #22 Michigan State next week. They havn't played a game yet this season, which means they are rested, but also untested. We need a spark to motivate the team into believing they can win this game"

                        TEAM REPORT

COACH DEZARON DEDICATES SEASON TO DEMARIUS REED

Anytime tragedy strikes a team, the coaches and players involved have 2 choices. They could use that pain to drive them to do great things, or they could allow it to drag them down.

After a exciting opening Week 1 win over rival Western Michigan, the Eagles failed to ride the "MO" to a victory in Week 2 over their other instate rival in Central Michigan. Now with a upcoming matchup against #22 Michigan State, Coach Dezaron has called out his team and asked them to dedicate the rest of the season to Reed who was murdered last season.

                        Coach Dezaron-
The reality was the team wasn't ready to make this commitment last season. After talking it over with the staff and team captains we feel like this is something we should do. Well I didn't know Reed personally, everything I have read and heard about him, says he was a great teammate and his murder didn't just take away a very good football player but a man who would've made a impact in the world as well. Our prayers are with his family and the the police as they continue to look for his killer

DEZARON SAYS BENZ WILL REMAIN STARTER

With 3 turnovers (2 INT and a fumble) SR Tyler Benz was removed as the starter after the 1st half, with RS FR R. Bell taking over. However Coach Dezaron was quick to point out that last year Joe Southwick had a pretty crappy game in Week 1 against UW, rebounding to go on and have a record setting year leading the Broncos to a National Title.

                        Coach Dezaron
Tyler might not be quite as talented as Joe, but the differences are not as big as one might think. I believe in Tyler and the team believe in Tyler. Well Reginald has proven his running ability gives us another dimension, we will continue to use packages that allow us to take advantage of those said abilities.

COULD WE HAVE A UPSET IN EAST LANSING?

                            Game Recap

The Eagles came into the game wearing their all gray uniforms with a #2 patch on their shoulders to honor fallen teammate D. Reed. The emotions where high as the Eagles took the opening kickoff.

Coach Dezaron had a game plan coming in that would allow his team the chance for a upset. His plan? Don't let the Spartans have the ball...

EMU would keep the ball for 5:26 seconds of the 1st Quarter in their opening scoring drive that was capped off by a 2 yd B. Hill TD run. Then after a 4 and out by the Spartans the Eagles would keep the ball for another 3 minutes before scoring on a 4 yd TD pass from Benz to J. Jones to make it (14-0) with just 34 seconds to play in the quarter.

With a upset in the air, the Eagles again would hold the Spartans on 3rd down forcing a punt and again with ball control would hold the ball for most of the 2nd Quarter as well before setting on a D. Mulder 21 yd FG with 56 seconds to play. (17-0). Down by 3 scores, the Spartans quickly answered as they used just 3 plays to go 69 yards in 21 seconds as N. Hill ran in from 27 yds out to make it (17-7) at the half.

In the 3rd Quarter MSU made their move to get back in the game. as C. Cook hit T. Lipplet on a 39 yd TD pass (17-14) but EMU answered scoring their own TD on another Benz to J. Jones 4 yd TD pass (24-14). However with 1:03 to play in the quarter, MSU would tie the game as N. Hill scores his 2nd TD of the game from 1 yd out to make it (24-21).

The MSU run defense was all over B. Hill in the 4th quarter forcing 3 punts by the Eagles, but the EMU "D" would hold MSU to 2 FG's (39 yds and 24 yds) and with 2:15 to play in the game the Eagles would have the ball in their hands with a chance to win the game. Down (27-24) the Eagles worked the ball down field on their first 2 plays before running into a wall of defenders. Forced to go for it on 4th and 10, QB T. Benz would find WR D. Creel coming all the way across the field on a slat pattern. Creel would break a tackle at the 1st down marker and dive forward for the 1st down. With just 50 seconds to play, the Eagles needed 24 yards to score. Again Benz would drop back this time finding Q. Jones on a 19 yd gain. The Eagles would rush to the line and quickly handoff to Hill hoping to catch the Spartans off guard, and Hill would rumble in from 5 yds out. But after replay it showed Hill was actuall down at the 1 yd line. With 32 seconds to play, the Eagles would again try to pound it in, this time giving it to Soph J. Lewis. Lewis would answer getting in from 1 yd out to put the Eagles up (31-27), but this game was far from over. With 28 seconds to play, the Spartans took the kickoff out to the 38 yd line, then completed 2 passes of to move the ball their own 22 yd line, With 8 seconds to play and no timeouts, the Spartans were looking for something on the sideline, but the Eagles defense was ready breaking up the pass. Now with 4 seconds to play the Spartans had just 1 last play. Going for the endzone, QB C. Cook was sacked by C. Maughmer as the Eagles knocked off a Top-25 program for the first time ever? (Honestly couldn't find record of EMU ever beating a Top-25 team.

Wow. I have to say I am a bit emotional right now.. That was epic. Playing in the National Championship game last season was a huge moment in my life but this game right here almost topped it. The last 2 minutes of the game, the crowd was so loud you couldn't even hear yourself think. I am so proud of the way the guy's stuck together and came up with that huge play on 4th down. If Creel doesn't break that tackle and dive for the 1st down the game was over. That play was huge. We stuck with our game plan and used the clock to our advantage as best as I thought we could, yet the Spartans still almost made it happen there in the final seconds. I feel this game will be talked about around dinner tables in Michigan for the rest of our lives.

EAGLES OPEN UP THE NEST LOOKING FOR ANOTHER WIN!

                              Game Recap

Even with their first Top-25 victory in what many believe in school history, and a chance to tie their 3 win total of last season less then 7,000 fans showed up for the EMU vs UMass showdown as Swoop led the team out onto the field, and even less where in attendance to see the final quarter go down.

UMass opened the game picking off QB T. Benz to set up a 1 yd TD run as the Minuteman took the (7-0) lead. Benz would settle down completing 4/4 passes but was hit hard as he scrambled for a 1st down and had to leave the field never to return, forcing the Eagles to settle for a 30 yd FG to make it (7-3).

In the 2nd Quarter backup QB, Freshman R. Bell would fly the eagles down field as they scored on a 5 yd TD strike to Jay Jones to make it (10-7). UMass would answer though with a TD of their own on a 4 yd run by FB D. Mack (14-10). Then after a Bell fumble, the UMass would kick a 36 yd FG to make it (17-10) with 3 minutes to play in the half. Again the Eagles would fly down the field, this time on the feet of RB B. Hill, but the flight would stall as D. Mulder would connect on a season long 43 yd FG to make it (17-13) with 53 seconds to play. UMass however wasn't just going to go into the locker room with a 4pt lead, and instead went the air setting up a 25 yd FG as time expired in the half to make it (20-13)

EMU would tie the game (20-20) in the 3rd Quarter as J. Lewis falls forward on a 1 yard TD run. Then in the 4th Quarter, it was Bell to Jay Jones again on scoring strikes of 6yds and 8yds as the Eagles took a (34-20) lead with 3:20 to play. In less then a minute though UMass was back in the endzone this time on a 16 yd TD pass from M. Wegzn to S. Curtis (34-27). Down by a touchdown with 2:30 to play, UMass suprised the few hundred left in attendance by kicking off rather then attempting the onside kick.

The Eagles would use the rushing attack of Hill and Bell to take off the remaining time, as D. Mulder came in and kicked a 31 yd FG to end the game.

"I don't think anyone could of seen this coming.. 3 wins in 4 games, Wow!! These guys are playing great. Before Tyler got hurt he was #2 in the nation in passing yards, behind who other then Grant Hedrick at BSU, but Reggie (Reginald Bell) did great stepping up and playing big for us today and I can't say enough about Bronson. 35 carries!!! The man was a workhorse for us today. I really was pushing for him to top 200 yds, but we just couldn't get it down. None the less I am really proud of him. I am also really excited for Jay Jones. He is our smallest receiver, yet he is like a little Wes Welker when he is on the goaline, he just finds space and is ready when the QB sees him. I expect that more teams will start focusing on him as the year goes on, but for now I will take. On a negative note, I really want to see us cut down on our turnovers and I would really like to see the "D" get a INT. It's amazing we are 3-1 with the turnover ratio that we have.
