    Points Of Emphasis Discussion

I see a lot of people asking about the P.O.E in the game, so I went back and compiled a list of the offensive and defensive P.O.E's we can choose.

    Defense

    Conservative Defense
    ]Play Physical
    Nothing Inside
    Limit Transition
    Limit Perimeter Shots
    Key On Player
    Crash Defensive Glass
    Create Chaos

    Offense

    Patient Offense
    Shoot At Will
    Get Shooters Open
    Play Through
    Get To The Basket
    Pick And Roll Offense
    Feed The Post
    Crash Offensive Glass
    Run In Transition

The devs have said that the AI will take advantage of these Points of emphasis during the game, and that whatever you choose, it will be best to run your offense through whatever emphasis you chose. What do you guys think about all the options we have to choose from?

if we turn on automatic playcalling, will the plays being called line up with our poes? same question regarding the 2k smart play.

im also wondering how these will work in my career mode since we dont have access to coaching options (obviously). will we know what poes our coach wants to focus on? will my teammates be smart enough to call the right plays (if i am not the pg)?

I'm sorry to bump but I see a lot off people complaining that "sag off, play tight, " etc are not in the game. They ARE there but basically through the use of points of emphasis. It's also more realistic this way. No more play tight double-teaming the whole team. You actually have to strategize your defense!

That's something that Ronnie2k would say. Truth is they just oversimplified something that was working fine.

When I changed my point of emphasis to pick and roll, we ran pick and rolls with the smart play. So yes the playcalls do correspond with the Point of emphasis.

Point of Emphasis is just like the NBA. It's funny because people said the same thing about the defensive strategy when P.O.E. was taken away. There are certain players that are left open no matter defense you set up. My team seems to play zone when I just want Man to Man. I feel is just another part of the game where customization is limited.

I posted this in the impressions thread, but never got an answer. Thought maybe I would try it here.

I was playing against the Knicks and I was using the "key on player" POE and obviously was keying on Carmelo. In the first half (12 minute quarters) Melo took one shot and maybe only touched the ball a couple of times. I then removed that POE, and he became more involved.

Anyone else see anything like this, or was it an isolated incident? I was wondering if the "key on player" POE is overpowered or not.

No. Previously you could tinker every setting to your heart's liking and actually strategize. Now you actually can't do anything but put the same defensive settings against the whole opposing team. Vague settings that don't actually tell what they do is not enough.

                  More options = more strategy
                  Less options = less strategy

                  Capisce?

I actually hated the old way and never bothered with it....it just felt like micromanaging and I didn't feel like wasting time in a damn menu doing this and that. With this system I can just pick what I want and just play!

I actually like the POE, but I'd like to know exactly whats going on behind the scenes with it.

I might be ok with POE if i could set my pick and roll coverage but you cant. It's not more realistic. Every shooter is not created equal. Take a team like the Warriors. If you're playing them Curry and Thompson cannot be left open period. Iggy however can be given more space as can Barnes. The bigs I have always set to sag off so I can get early help. Every shooter is not created equal. With POE that is gone. You either have limit outside shots which ends with to many open lanes or you have limit inside which leaves shooters WIDE OPEN.
You can set defensive matchups before the game though but only for starters. So good luck if there are elite shooters coming off the bench

Damn! I was hoping they didn't do that.

So no individual tight / sag, headge / no headge, double on drive / never double, etc?
