How do you stay in front of your man on D?

I couldn't do this on Xbox 360 and now I'm having even more trouble on Xbox One. Seriously, how do you stay in front of a guy. The opposing offense scores most of their baskets at the rim, or at least makes a deep foray into the paint, off of dribble drives. Can someone suggest something to help me?

Is there still a defense assist setting?

Hold both triggers and always step back first, before moving right or left.

keep some space in front of your defender, if you stay on him too tight he'll just blow by you easily.

I like to the think as defensive assist as "auto strafe".... the higher it is, the less you have to hold LT....

I like to put defensive assist at 0, other than that it's just a mixture of reaction and anticipation.

But if the cpu wants to make a layup it'll make a layup, regardless of who's in it's path. Case in point --> http://youtu.be/SIrtZSmtTIA I'm the wizards btw.

This has happened countless times against me, usually over multiple defenders. I've tried steal, block, right stick defense and holding L2. Nothing works, the only option is going with a cowardly zone or abusing wimpy off ball defense which i refuse to do.

Do you REALLY want that shot to miss 100% of the time? Its really not that crazy of a shot. Beverley, a great finisher, made a layup in traffic. Really not a shocker.

Did you read the thread title? I uploaded that clip because it shows staying in front of your man doesn't matter all that much. The whole sequence was utterly ridiculous, if you think that particular play classifies as basketball... well... "L for Love"

As far as the layup, it was just the icing on the cake. The point was that the cpu will score if it wants to, regardless of defense, this sequence was an example of that. And no, i wouldn't have a problem with that layup if it happened under normal circumstances.

However, judging by your response you don't think scoring in the paint is overpowered, i obviously disagree. I've had plenty of 6' pg's dribble in between my entire team, stop when they're standing right under the basket, wait half a second and somehow make a layup or post move over 2-3 6'9+ defenders. I'd "REALLY" call that a shocker, but then again i know basketball. I'd upload some of those, but i'm afraid i deleted them. They were part of entire games that took up too much space. I'll try to remember and record some of those sequences the next time i play association. I'd love to see you try to take those out of context (like you did here) in a halfhearted attempt to discredit me.

Not trying to discredit you, or anyone else. I just think a lot of complaints about ON Ball D and its abilities (or lack thereof) on here are greatly exaggerated. Overall, the paint scoring is a bit much in the game, yes, but it can be nerfed with great defense I've found. Adjusting in game Defensive Settings CONSTANTLY, shading, knowing when to Intense-D, etc. And yes That sequence WAS ridiculous and probably should have resulted in a TO for the opponent, but it didn't and Beverley made a crazy shot. These things happen in basketball. Its also hard to say HOW crazy that video was based on not knowing whether it was vs CPU or another User but either way it shouldn't have happened, we agree on that. But I do feel like these shots need to go in sometimes, maybe less than they do, but either way.

You had a great point with the vid being Icing on the Cake, because yes that is what it was based on your argument..

You're right, i forgot to mention that it was against the cpu in myteam schedule mode two weeks ago. Don't know what difficulty it is, i assume pro/default, maybe allstar.

Still it happened all the time in association on every difficulty/slider set as well. And it's not just the point guards, i've had guys like jason maxiell and udonis haslem turn into olajuwon with hooks, postfades, up and unders, pretty much any post move you can think off. Double and triple teams were ineffective, they just kept going like there was no one there. Going off for 15-20 points in the 4th quarter.

Like you said, all of it is possible and happens in the nba, it just happens way too much imo.

Or maybe it's just because i like to use lowly rated players, and they're gonna get overpowered no matter how well i control them defensively. I guess that's a possibility as well, even though that was never a problem in 2k13.

Why didn't you go for a steal when Harden stumbled? That's the best way punishing guys when they're doing that...in my experience, it's a steal more often that not....

Right stick defense has actually worked pretty well for me...offensive players tend to get stopped cold rather than continuously pushed back...

i rarely use intense D ,, i usually just try to bump the defender with turbo and LT when they try to run past . the controlled players this year play pretty good D just by using the sticks and following the ball handler

my bad yeah you right but im saying i dont hold it down as im staying in front i tend to just let the opponent think he can run past

my D consists of bait guarding... it looks like im just running aimlessly sometimes but naaa im right there in the process of picking pockets

                              ....

just played a few games and im really not using intense D . just right stick and right trigger / hands up and turbo
