Playoff Questions
I looked around and did not really see a thread about some questions about the new playoff system next year. One of my questions is isn't there still going to be a lot of debate which teams go to the 4 team playoff? I mean, yes we're getting rid of the BCS but we're still back at square one. We still have the AP and Coaches polls which almost never agree with each other. What if we have two different teams for the last spot? Say Oregon is #4 in the AP poll but Stanford is #4 in the Coaches Poll? That's why I didn't mind the BCS as much cause it's one poll and that one was really the only one that mattered, even though it was a broken system.Favorite Teams:

Re: Playoff Questions
Ok, I probably should have looked in to it. But still. It takes away the computers but we're still going to have a lot of debate, like the NCAA Tournament....Favorite Teams:

Re: Playoff Questions
There's always going to be debate when it comes to college sports and playoffs. There are too many schools and everyone doesn't play each other, so there's no definitive way to compare teams against each other.Comment

Re: Playoff Questions
Right right. When it was first mentioned, I was not a fan of the playoff system. It reminded me too much of the NFL, which I can't stand. I liked how in college you really had to work hard during season and schedule the big teams to have a shot. I mean, what if let's say the #1 team's best player goes down with an injury during the first playoff game? Now I don't mind some upsets here or there but I want a great national championship. I don't want a 2 vs 4. I want 1 vs 2. That's on reason why I didn't mind the BCS. They should have just taken the computer element out of it. I know I probably sound like an idiot but it's just my opinionFavorite Teams:

Re: Playoff Questions
i wouldnt call you an idiot, but i dont agree. the injury element is something that could happen regardless, in practice or the first quarter of the actual championship game and affect the outcome. sure theres going to be debate. lets say for instance fsu, ohio state, and auburn win their title games. obviously theyre all in. then its going to be a debate of highest ranked and best resume alabama vs big 12 champ or pac 12 champ.
regardless of your position in that no.4 spot debate, this is a better system of truly determining who the best team was this season. because right now im not sure either fsu or ohio state are the best team in the nation. i mean that from a resume standpoint and eye test. fsu and ohio state have beaten one team (clemson, wisconsin) to this point that is still ranked, which isnt enough to prove that you belong in a national title game.
thats where the 4 team playoff improves on the previous system is it virtually guarantees you have to beat a top 5 team to make it to the title game. whereas say michigan state had 3 or 4 losses, ohio state could make it to the title game without beating a single top 20 team.Comment

Re: Playoff Questions
Yes, the 68 team basketball tournament proves there will be debate no matter where you draw the line. But a debate over 4th vs. 5th is preferable to 3rd vs. 2nd. Most years, a 5th ranked team won't have that compelling of a case to be in the NC. The same cannot usually be said of the 3rd ranked team.Comment

Re: Playoff Questions
The current system did not encourage teams to play tough schedules. In fact we nearly ended up with Osu vs fsu simply because neither of them really played anyone throughout the season. Had they challenged themselves and played other top teams during the year there is a chance neither is even in the discussion. In fact, a couple other teams likely better than Osu and maybe better than fsu were out of the discussion largely because they played tough games and as happens they lost some of them.Right right.
