49ers release Aldon Smith (99 ovr) in season 2?
Does this happen for everyone? Aldon Smith released by 49ers along with 4th string scrubs during preseason. Bills pick him up.

They once cut Micheal Crabtree and Patrick Willis for me. I just control the 49ers AI during the Preseason, since it seems they like to get a bit release happy.NFL - OaklandRaiders

Re: 49ers release Aldon Smith (99 ovr) in season 2?
Wouldn't be a stretch in real life for the 49ers to release him due to his off the field issues.
Further, the 49ers have some big deals coming down the pipe, most notable will be the massive contract Kaepernick is going to want to have. Can't keep everyone in a salary cap world.
Also..
Remember when the Colts decided not to retain Peyton Manning?
Remember when the Colts decided to trade a 1st round player in Trent Richardson after just a few games?
Remember when the Patriots decided not to resign Asante Samuel? Wes Welker?
Remember when the Texans decided not to resign Mario Williams?
Remember when the Ravens won a super bowl then dismantled their defence?
I don't get why people make a big deal out of this stuff, then again, people make a big deal about arm sleeves being franchise killers so I guess it is what it is around here.

Eliminating Cuts in year one would help this. EA releases weekly roster updates for the current season but yet they have cuts in year one. Every time EA releases the current roster, you still have to cut players. Need to eliminate pre-season cuts in year one and start it in year two.Comment

Re: 49ers release Aldon Smith (99 ovr) in season 2?
Remember when it was because Peyton Manning was 36 years old or so coming off of an injury that kept him out for an entire season and nobody knew if he would be the same player?Wouldn't be a stretch in real life for the 49ers to release him due to his off the field issues.
Further, the 49ers have some big deals coming down the pipe, most notable will be the massive contract Kaepernick is going to want to have. Can't keep everyone in a salary cap world.

Remember when the Browns did that and got something in return? The 1st round pick?
Remember how their is a huge difference between not resigning and cutting a player in the form of cap penalties?
Remember when see above?
Remember when it was the same situation as above? Couldn't keep everyone because of cap issues, but they didn't just release top young players.
I get the cap thing and all, but it's unrealistic that they would just straight up cut him. He'd be traded for draft picks IRL, they wouldn't just straight up release him.
Especially since Smith is one of, if not the best young pass rusher in the NFL. Regardless of off field issues, he wouldn't just get straight up cut. They would deal him for something, even if it was a 5th rounder, they wouldn't just cut him.
And like I said, the situations you brought up were situations where they either got something in return in a trade or didn't suffer cap penalties because those players contracts were already up.
This is made a big deal out of because it is potentially gamebreaking in most peoples eyes. CPU controlled teams should not be just straight up cutting their best players. Not only are they losing the player but they are going to take massive cap penalties as well when doing that. I can't just make excuses or try to justify these types of things for the game when they really don't make sense. Obviously the AI did it to clear cap space but it wouldn't be done that way,, ever
Another thing that happens that is incredibly unrealistic is the CPU controlled teams not resigning obvious franchise QBs because of cap issues. Like someone just mentioned a littler earlier in this thread that they signed Kaep as a free agent. Never would that happen in the real NFL unless Kaep had a terrible 2 year stretch and regressed as a player...I am willing to put money down that that did not happen in that persons game
Same thing happened with last years game. 90% of the time when I hit year 5 of a franchise either Luck or RG3 and half the time BOTH were free agents. franchise QBs that had consistently brought their teams to the playoffs hit free agency because the AI wasn't programmed to value them as high as they should. The one time RG3 was coming off of a MVP season and a SB win and hhe went into free agency. If we want to use the whole "well this and this happened in the NFL" logic then that's perfect. Because Flacco last year had a meh year and then won the SB (and we all know it wasn't because he was such an amazing QB) and then got signed to a HUGE deal that overpaid him out the wazoo. So tell me why the Redskins wouldn't have done the same for RG3 in the game? Obvious it was because of cap space, but using real life logic we all know that that would have NEVER happened. EVER
I get everyone has their own opinion and I get some people are not bothered by this type of thing. Regardless of that fact, it is undeniable that the AI logic is flawed when it comes to personnel decisions. For the kind of people that crave realism from their games this absolutely IS a game breaker. I love the NFL and I have loved madden games in the past. My favorite thing to do is take a bad team and turn them into Super Bowl contenders. But when I can't get past the 3rd or 4th season of a franchise with multiple franchise QBs hitting free agency and going to different teams the game becomes unplayable.
I can look past elite players at other positions leaving in FA because that does happen on occasion. But when a franchise QB hits FA every off season I can't ignore that. I can't just pretend that it's normal and realistic, because it's not. It's the exact opposite of realistic. Yes there are some unique situations that see great QBs leave to go elsewhere (Manning), but those don't happen EVERY off seasonComment

Re: 49ers release Aldon Smith (99 ovr) in season 2?
Obviously one part of this is that owners/GMs in real life can do things to move cap money around. They have players take huge bonus money at certain points in their contracts. They can have them restructure their deals to add more cap room to keep a current star. Id madden you offer X amount of money with Y amount of bonus. It makes it much more difficult for users, and especially the CPU to keep certain players.
With franchise QBs hitting the market, the CPU teams MIGHT not actually be able to keep them without more "gamebreaking" problems happen. To give someone 22m a year, they might have to add on 30m in cap penalties because they cannot restructure any deals, or front load their bonus money.
That is the part of the game that is flawed, and used to be workable as far back as Madden 06 in XBoxComment

Re: 49ers release Aldon Smith (99 ovr) in season 2?
I don't think there are many NFL GMs that would be willing to part ways with draft picks, no matter the round, for a star player in the final year of his contract. Too risky. There would likely be no assurance the player would sign with the newly acquired team versus testing the free agent market and going to the team of HIS choice at that stage in the game.
I could see it if there were at least two years left on the contract, but not just one.
Plenty of issues with the AI on and off the field - it's an EA product after all - but this is ONE way some big name free agents became big name free agents over the years.Last edited by Sturzinator; 12-09-2013, 08:05 PM.Comment
