Texas Coaching Search Thread
Orangebloods, and CBSsports are confirming reports that Brown will step down as the HC of the Texas football team. Since those reports, both the Texas SID and Brown himself have refuted the reports. Although not very long ago when OB reported that Texas AD DeLoss Dodd's was stepping down, both the Texas SID and Dodd's himself denied them….for a couple days until he actually did step down. Thoughts, rumors…innuendo?...Tags: None -
Re: Mack Brown to step down as Texas HC...
I live in the ATX, and at ground zero the word is that the reports are in fact true. The denial from the 40 Acres, and Brown himself is just normal PR until Brown will announce the statement himself at the annual football banquet this weekend... -

There's an entire discussion about this in the coaching carousel thread.

This all sounds terribly similar to the Gruden saga last year

An OB source has confirmed that Nick Saban has
initiated the vetting process of trying to see what a staff at Texas might
look
like.

Re: Mack Brown to step down as Texas HC...
......................Austin (CBS HOUSTON) – A source tells SportRadio 610 that if Mack Brown does not
resign as University of Texas football coach before a Board of Regents meeting
on Thursday he will be removed from the position. No date was provided on when
that removal would happen.
That same source tells SportsRadio 610 that Brown, 62, was prepared to resign this week after 16 seasons as the Longhorns head football coach, but was not happy when news of the story leaked before he could tell his players and coaching staff. It is expected that he will resign, but if he doesn’t, the Board of Regents needs a majority of it’s members to vote for his ouster, and SportsRadio 610 has been told they have the votes.Comment

Re: Mack Brown to step down as Texas HC...
I have nothing to base this off of, but I don't think Texas gets rid of Brown unless they felt they had a more than good chance of landing Saban.

Re: Mack Brown to step down as Texas HC...
At this point I don't see any reason to keep Mack around. The fans were already frustrated and now this week has given hope that Mack could be out an anybody else could be in. The BoR are all friends of Rick Perry (TX governor) who is a Texas A&M graduate (and at least one member also a grad) so who knows what the hell will happen.Comment

Re: Mack Brown to step down as Texas HC...
In a sense this is a pretty sad end to a very good tenure at Texas. Brown overstayed by a couple of years but in the long run he brought prestige back to the program after a rather up and down tenure from Jock Mackovic.
It will be interesting to see who replaces Brown in Texas and the kind of culture the new coach brings to the program.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I'd be shocked if Saban ends up at Texas. Stranger things have happened though.

Re: Mack Brown to step down as Texas HC...
Saban made a pretty definitive statement about how he's too old to go and move off to another school. I'd be shocked too but if he does go to Texas than it confirms the worst aspects of his personality and really, that's the only black mark to his legacy IMO.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
